Now he also told them a parable, that we should continually pray and not cease,1 Les decía una parábola para inculcarles que era preciso orar siempre sin desfallecer.
saying: “There was a certain judge in a certain city, who did not fear God and did not respect man.2 «Había un juez en una ciudad, que ni temía a Dios ni respetaba a los hombres.
But there was a certain widow in that city, and she went to him, saying, ‘Vindicate me from my adversary.’3 Había en aquella ciudad una viuda que, acudiendo a él, le dijo: “¡Hazme justicia contra mi adversario!”
And he refused to do so for a long time. But afterwards, he said within himself: ‘Even though I do not fear God, nor respect man,4 Durante mucho tiempo no quiso, pero después se dijo a sí mismo: “Aunque no temo a Dios ni respeto a los hombres,
yet because this widow is pestering me, I will vindicate her, lest by returning, she may, in the end, wear me out.’ ”5 como esta viuda me causa molestias, le voy a hacer justicia para que no venga continuamente a importunarme.”»
Then the Lord said: “Listen to what the unjust judge said.6 Dijo, pues, el Señor: «Oíd lo que dice el juez injusto;
So then, will not God grant the vindication of his elect, who cry out to him day and night? Or will he continue to endure them?7 y Dios, ¿no hará justicia a sus elegidos, que están clamando a él día y noche, y les hace esperar?
I tell you that he will quickly bring vindication to them. Yet truly, when the Son of man returns, do you think that he will find faith on earth?”8 Os digo que les hará justicia pronto. Pero, cuando el Hijo del hombre venga, ¿encontrará la fe sobre la tierra?»
Now about certain persons who consider themselves to be just, while disdaining others, he told also this parable:9 Dijo también a algunos que se tenían por justos y despreciaban a los demás, esta parábola:
“Two men ascended to the temple, in order to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.10 «Dos hombres subieron al templo a orar; uno fariseo, otro publicano.
Standing, the Pharisee prayed within himself in this way: ‘O God, I give thanks to you that I am not like the rest of men: robbers, unjust, adulterers, even as this tax collector chooses to be.11 El fariseo, de pie, oraba en su interior de esta manera: “¡Oh Dios! Te doy gracias porque no soy como los demás hombres, rapaces, injustos, adúlteros, ni tampoco como este publicano.
I fast twice between Sabbaths. I give tithes from all that I possess.’12 Ayuno dos veces por semana, doy el diezmo de todas mis ganancias.”
And the tax collector, standing at a distance, was not willing to even lift up his eyes to heaven. But he struck his chest, saying: ‘O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’13 En cambio el publicano, manteniéndose a distancia, no se atrevía ni a alzar los ojos al cielo, sino que se golpeaba el pecho, diciendo: “¡Oh Dios! ¡Ten compasión de mí, que soy pecador!”
I say to you, this one descended to his house justified, but not the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”14 Os digo que éste bajó a su casa justificado y aquél no. Porque todo el que se ensalce, será humillado; y el que se humille, será ensalzado».
And they were bringing little children to him, so that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.15 Le presentaban también los niños pequeños para que los tocara, y al verlo los discípulos, les reñían.
But Jesus, calling them together, said: “Allow the children to come to me, and do not be an obstacle to them. For of such is the kingdom of God.16 Mas Jesús llamó a los niños, diciendo: «Dejad que los niños vengan a mí y no se lo impidáis; porque de los que son como éstos es el Reino de Dios.
Amen, I say to you, whoever will not accept the kingdom of God like a child, will not enter into it.”17 Yo os aseguro: el que no reciba el Reino de Dios como niño, no entrará en él».
And a certain leader questioned him, saying: “Good teacher, what should I do to possess eternal life?”18 Uno de los principales le preguntó: «Maestro bueno, ¿qué he de hacer para tener en herencia vida eterna?»
Then Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.19 Le dijo Jesús: «¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Nadie es bueno sino sólo Dios.
You know the commandments: You shall not kill. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. Honor your father and mother.”20 Ya sabes los mandamientos: No cometas adulterio, no mates, no robes, no levantes falso testimonio, honra a tu padre y a tu madre».
And he said, “I have kept all these things from my youth.”21 El dijo: «Todo eso lo he guardado desde mi juventud».
And when Jesus heard this, he said to him: “One thing is still lacking for you. Sell all the things that you have, and give to the poor. And then you will have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.”22 Oyendo esto Jesús, le dijo: «Aún te falta una cosa. Todo cuanto tienes véndelo y repártelo entre los pobres, y tendrás un tesoro en los cielos; luego, ven y sígueme».
When he heard this, he became very sorrowful. For he was very rich.23 Al oír esto, se puso muy triste, porque era muy rico.
Then Jesus, seeing him brought to sorrow, said: “How difficult it is for those who have money to enter into the kingdom of God!24 Viéndole Jesús, dijo: «¡Qué difícil es que los que tienen riquezas entren en el Reino de Dios!
For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a wealthy man to enter into the kingdom of God.”25 Es más fácil que un camello entre por el ojo de una aguja, que el que un rico entre en el Reino de Dios».
And those who were listening to this said, “Then who is able to be saved?”26 Los que lo oyeron, dijeron: «¿Y quién se podrá salvar?»
He said to them, “Things that are impossible with men are possible with God.”27 Respondió: «Lo imposible para los hombres, es posible para Dios».
And Peter said, “Behold, we have left everything, and we have followed you.”28 Dijo entonces Pedro: «Ya lo ves, nosotros hemos dejado nuestras cosas y te hemos seguido».
And he said to them: “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has left behind home, or parents, or brothers, or a wife, or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,29 El les dijo: «Yo os aseguro que nadie que haya dejado casa, mujer, hermanos, padres o hijos por el Reino de Dios,
who will not receive much more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”30 quedará sin recibir mucho más al presente y, en el mundo venidero, vida eterna».
Then Jesus took the twelve aside, and he said to them: “Behold, we are ascending to Jerusalem, and everything shall be completed which was written by the prophets about the Son of man.31 Tomando consigo a los Doce, les dijo: «Mirad que subimos a Jerusalén, y se cumplirá todo lo que los profetas escribieron para el Hijo del hombre;
For he will be handed over to the Gentiles, and he will be mocked and scourged and spit upon.32 pues será entregado a los gentiles, y será objeto de burlas, insultado y escupido;
And after they have scourged him, they will kill him. And on the third day, he will rise again.”33 y después de azotarle le matarán, y al tercer día resucitará».
But they understood none of these things. For this word was concealed from them, and they did not understand the things that were said.34 Ellos nada de esto comprendieron; estas palabras les quedaban ocultas y no entendían lo que decía.
Now it happened that, as he was approaching Jericho, a certain blind man was sitting beside the way, begging.35 Sucedió que, al acercarse él a Jericó, estaba un ciego sentado junto al camino pidiendo limosna;
And when he heard the multitude passing by, he asked what this was.36 al oír que pasaba gente, preguntó qué era aquello.
And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.37 Le informaron que pasaba Jesús el Nazoreo
And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, take pity on me!”38 y empezó a gritar, diciendo: «¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!»
And those who were passing by rebuked him, so that he would be silent. Yet truly, he cried out all the more, “Son of David, take pity on me!”39 Los que iban delante le increpaban para que se callara, pero él gritaba mucho más: «¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!»
Then Jesus, standing still, ordered him to be brought to him. And when he had drawn near, he questioned him,40 Jesús se detuvo, y mandó que se lo trajeran y, cuando se hubo acercado, le preguntó:
saying, “What do you want, that I might do for you?” So he said, “Lord, that I may see.”41 «¿Qué quieres que te haga?» El dijo: «¡Señor, que vea!»
And Jesus said to him: “Look around. Your faith has saved you.”42 Jesús le dijo: «Ve. Tu fe te ha salvado».
And immediately he saw. And he followed him, magnifying God. And all the people, when they saw this, gave praise to God.43 Y al instante recobró la vista, y le seguía glorificando a Dios. Y todo el pueblo, al verlo, alabó a Dios.
