1 And he also said to his disciples: “A certain man was wealthy, and he had a steward of his estate. And this man was accused to him of having dissipated his goods.	1 Diceva poi anche ai suoi discepoli: «Un uomo ricco aveva un amministratore che gli fu denunziato come dissipatore dei suoi beni.
2 And he called him and said to him: ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship. For you can no longer be my steward.’	2 Egli lo chiamò e gli disse: “Che cos'è che sento dire di te? Rendi conto della tua amministrazione, perché non potrai più amministrare”.
3 And the steward said within himself: ‘What shall I do? For my lord is taking the stewardship away from me. I am not strong enough to dig. I am too ashamed to beg.	3 L’amministratore disse allora tra sé: “Che cosa farò, ora che il mio padrone mi toglie l’amministrazione? Di zappare non ho la forza, di mendicare mi vergogno.
4 I know what I will do so that, when I have been removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’	4 So io che cosa farò, affinché, quando sarò rimosso dall’amministrazione, ci sia chi mi accolga in casa sua”.
5 And so, calling together each one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my lord?’	5 Fece venire a uno a uno i debitori del suo padrone e disse al primo:
6 So he said, ‘One hundred jars of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your invoice, and quickly, sit down and write fifty.’	6 “Quanto devi al mio padrone, tu?”. Quello rispose: “Cento barili d’olio”. E lui: “Prendi la tua ricevuta, siedi, presto, scrivi: cinquanta”.
7 Next, he said to another, ‘In truth, how much do you owe?’ And he said, ‘One hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your record books, and write eighty.’	7 Poi disse a un altro: “Tu, quanto devi?”. Quello rispose: “Cento misure di frumento”. È lui: “Prendi la tua ricevuta e scrivi: ottanta”.
8 And the lord praised the iniquitous steward, in that he had acted prudently. For the sons of this age are more prudent with their generation than are the sons of light.	8 Il padrone lodò quell’iniquo amministratore perché aveva agito con scaltrezza; poiché i figli di questo mondo sono, nell'agire con i loro simili, più scaltri dei figli della luce.
9 And so I say to you, make friends for yourself using iniquitous mammon, so that, when you will have passed away, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.	9 Ed io vi dico: procuratevi amici con la ricchezza iniqua, affinché quando verrà a mancare, essi vi accolgano negli eterni padiglioni.
10 Whoever is faithful in what is least, is also faithful in what is greater. And whoever is unjust in what is small, is also unjust in what is greater.	10 Chi è fedele nelle cose minime è fedele anche nelle grandi; e chi è iniquo nelle cose minime, è iniquo anche nelle grandi.
11 So then, if you have not been faithful with iniquitous mammon, who will trust you with what is true?	11 Se, dunque, non foste fedeli nella ricchezza iniqua, chi vi affiderà quella vera?
12 And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours?	12 E se non foste fedeli nella ricchezza degli altri, chi vi darà la vostra?
13 No servant is able to serve two lords. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will cling to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”	13 Nessun domestico può servire a due padroni; o, infatti, odierà l’uno e amerà l’altro, o si attaccherà all’uno e trascurerà l’altro. Non potete servire a Dio e a Mammona».
14 But the Pharisees, who were greedy, were listening to all these things. And they ridiculed him.	14 I farisei, che erano amanti del danaro, ascoltavano tutto questo e si facevano beffe di Gesù.
15 And he said to them: “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of men. But God knows your hearts. For what is lifted up by men is an abomination in the sight of God.	15 Ed egli disse loro: «Voi siete quelli che si fanno passare per giusti al cospetto degli uomini; ma Dio conosce i vostri cuori, perché ciò che per gli uomini è eccelso, è abbominio dinanzi a Dio.
16 The law and the prophets were until John. Since then, the kingdom of God is being evangelized, and everyone acts with violence toward it.	16 La Legge e i Profeti vanno fino a Giovanni: da allora è annunziata la buona novella del regno di Dio, e ognuno fa violenza verso di esso.
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one dot of the law to fall away.	17 È più facile che il cielo e la terra passino, che un solo apice della Legge cada.
18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery. And whoever marries her who has been divorced by her husband commits adultery.	18 Chiunque ripudia sua moglie e ne sposa un’altra commette adulterio, e chi sposa la ripudiata dal marito commette adulterio.
19 A certain man was wealthy, and he was clothed in purple and in fine linen. And he feasted splendidly every day.	19 C’era un uomo ricco, il quale si vestiva di porpora e di bisso e ogni giorno banchettava splendidamente.
20 And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, covered with sores,	20 Un povero, di nome Lazzaro, giaceva al portone di lui coperto di ulcere
21 wanting to be filled with the crumbs which were falling from the wealthy man’s table. But no one gave it to him. And even the dogs came and licked his sores.	21 e bramoso di sfamarsi con ciò che cadeva dalla tavola del ricco: ma perfino i cani venivano a leccargli le ulcere.
22 Then it happened that the beggar died, and he was carried by the Angels into the bosom of Abraham. Now the wealthy man also died, and he was entombed in Hell.	22 È: accadde che il mendico morì e fu portato dagli angeli nel seno di Abramo. Morì anche il ricco e fu sepolto.
23 Then lifting up his eyes, while he was in torments, he saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom.	23 Nell’ade, fra i tormenti, levò gli occhi e vide di lontano Abramo, e Lazzaro nel seno di lui.
24 And crying out, he said: ‘Father Abraham, take pity on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water to refresh my tongue. For I am tortured in this fire.’	24 Allora gridò: “Padre Abramo, abbi pietà di me e manda Lazzaro a intingere la punta di un dito nell’acqua per rinfrescarmi la lingua, perché spasimo in questa fiamma”.
25 And Abraham said to him: ‘Son, recall that you received good things in your life, and in comparison, Lazarus received bad things. But now he is consoled, and truly you are tormented.	25 Ma Abramo disse: “Figlio, ricordati che tu hai ricevuto i tuoi beni durante la vita e Lazzaro, similmente, i mali; ora, invece, qui egli è consoato e tu spasimi.
26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chaos has been established, so that those who might want to cross from here to you are not able, nor can someone cross from there to here.’	26 Oltre a tutto ciò, fra voi e noi sta scavata una grande voragine, perché chiunque voglia di qui passare dalla vostra, parte non lo possa, né di costì si venga a noi "
27 And he said: ‘Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers,	27 E quegli: “Allora ti prego, Padre, di mandar Lazzaro alla casa di mio padre,
28 so that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torments.’	28 perché ho cinque fratelli, per ammonirli affinché non vengano anch’essi in questo luogo di tormenti”.
29 And Abraham said to him: ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’	29 Ma Abramo rispose: “Hanno Mosè e i Profeti: li ascoltino”.
30 So he said: ‘No, father Abraham. But if someone were to go to them from the dead, they would repent.’	30 E l’altro: «No, Padre Abramo, ma se qualcuno dai morti andrà da loro, si convertiranno”.
31 But he said to him: ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe even if someone has resurrected from the dead.’ ”	31 Ma Abramo gli disse: “Se non ascoltano Mosè e i Profeti non daranno retta neppure ad uno che sia risorto dai morti”».
