1 And when they had drawn near to Jerusalem, and had arrived at Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,	1 Quando furono vicini a Gerusalemme e giunsero presso Bètfage, verso il monte degli Ulivi, Gesù mandò due discepoli,
2 saying to them: “Go into the town that is opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Release them, and lead them to me.	2 dicendo loro: «Andate nel villaggio di fronte a voi e subito troverete un’asina, legata, e con essa un puledro. Slegateli e conduceteli da me.
3 And if anyone will have said anything to you, say that the Lord has need of them. And he will promptly dismiss them.”	3 E se qualcuno vi dirà qualcosa, rispondete: “Il Signore ne ha bisogno, ma li rimanderà indietro subito”».
4 Now all this was done in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet, saying,	4 Ora questo avvenne perché si compisse ciò che era stato detto per mezzo del profeta:
5 “Tell the daughter of Zion: Behold, your king comes to you meekly, sitting on a donkey and on a colt, the son of one accustomed to the yoke.”	5 Dite alla figlia di Sion: Ecco, a te viene il tuo re, mite, seduto su un’asina e su un puledro, figlio di una bestia da soma.
6 Then the disciples, going out, did just as Jesus instructed them.	6 I discepoli andarono e fecero quello che aveva ordinato loro Gesù:
7 And they brought the donkey and the colt, and they laid their garments on them, and they helped him sit upon them.	7 condussero l’asina e il puledro, misero su di essi i mantelli ed egli vi si pose a sedere.
8 Then a very numerous crowd spread their garments on the way. But others cut branches from the trees and scattered them on the way.	8 La folla, numerosissima, stese i propri mantelli sulla strada, mentre altri tagliavano rami dagli alberi e li stendevano sulla strada.
9 And the crowds that preceded him, and those that followed, cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!”	9 La folla che lo precedeva e quella che lo seguiva, gridava: «Osanna al figlio di Davide! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore! Osanna nel più alto dei cieli!».
10 And when he had entered into Jerusalem, the entire city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”	10 Mentre egli entrava in Gerusalemme, tutta la città fu presa da agitazione e diceva: «Chi è costui?».
11 But the people were saying, “This is Jesus, the Prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”	11 E la folla rispondeva: «Questi è il profeta Gesù, da Nàzaret di Galilea».
12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and he cast out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of the vendors of doves.	12 Gesù entrò nel tempio e scacciò tutti quelli che nel tempio vendevano e compravano; rovesciò i tavoli dei cambiamonete e le sedie dei venditori di colombe
13 And he said to them: “It is written: ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer. But you have made it into a den of robbers.’ ”	13 e disse loro: «Sta scritto: La mia casa sarà chiamata casa di preghiera. Voi invece ne fate un covo di ladri».
14 And the blind and the lame drew near to him in the temple; and he healed them.	14 Gli si avvicinarono nel tempio ciechi e storpi, ed egli li guarì.
15 Then the leaders of the priests and the scribes became indignant, seeing the miracles that he wrought, and the children crying out in the temple, saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”	15 Ma i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi, vedendo le meraviglie che aveva fatto e i fanciulli che acclamavano nel tempio: «Osanna al figlio di Davide!», si sdegnarono,
16 And they said to him, “Do you hear what these ones are saying?” But Jesus said to them, “Certainly. Have you never read: For out of the mouth of babes and infants, you have perfected praise?”	16 e gli dissero: «Non senti quello che dicono costoro?». Gesù rispose loro: «Sì! Non avete mai letto: Dalla bocca di bambini e di lattanti hai tratto per te una lode?».
17 And leaving them behind, he went out, beyond the city, into Bethania, and he lodged here.	17 Li lasciò, uscì fuori dalla città, verso Betània, e là trascorse la notte.
18 Then, as he was returning to the city in the morning, he was hungry.	18 La mattina dopo, mentre rientrava in città, ebbe fame.
19 And seeing a certain fig tree beside the way, he approached it. And he found nothing on it, except only leaves. And he said to it, “May fruit never spring forth from you, for all time.” And immediately the fig tree was dried up.	19 Vedendo un albero di fichi lungo la strada, gli si avvicinò, ma non vi trovò altro che foglie, e gli disse: «Mai più in eterno nasca un frutto da te!». E subito il fico seccò.
20 And seeing this, the disciples wondered, saying, “How did it dry up so quickly?”	20 Vedendo ciò, i discepoli rimasero stupiti e dissero: «Come mai l’albero di fichi è seccato in un istante?».
21 And Jesus responded to them by saying: “Amen I say to you, if you have faith and do not hesitate, not only shall you do this, concerning the fig tree, but even if you would say to this mountain, ‘Take and cast yourself into the sea,’ it shall be done.	21 Rispose loro Gesù: «In verità io vi dico: se avrete fede e non dubiterete, non solo potrete fare ciò che ho fatto a quest’albero, ma, anche se direte a questo monte: “Lèvati e gèttati nel mare”, ciò avverrà.
22 And all things whatsoever that you shall ask for in prayer: believing, you shall receive.”	22 E tutto quello che chiederete con fede nella preghiera, lo otterrete».
23 And when he had arrived at the temple, as he was teaching, the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people approached him, saying: “By what authority do you do these things? And who has given this authority to you?”	23 Entrò nel tempio e, mentre insegnava, gli si avvicinarono i capi dei sacerdoti e gli anziani del popolo e dissero: «Con quale autorità fai queste cose? E chi ti ha dato questa autorità?».
24 In response, Jesus said to them: “I also will question you with one word: if you tell me this, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.	24 Gesù rispose loro: «Anch’io vi farò una sola domanda. Se mi rispondete, anch’io vi dirò con quale autorità faccio questo.
25 The baptism of John, where was it from? Was it from heaven, or from men?” But they thought within themselves, saying:	25 Il battesimo di Giovanni da dove veniva? Dal cielo o dagli uomini?». Essi discutevano fra loro dicendo: «Se diciamo: “Dal cielo”, ci risponderà: “Perché allora non gli avete creduto?”.
26 “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we have the crowd to fear, for they all hold John to be a prophet.”	26 Se diciamo: “Dagli uomini”, abbiamo paura della folla, perché tutti considerano Giovanni un profeta».
27 And so, they answered Jesus by saying, “We do not know.” So he also said to them: “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.	27 Rispondendo a Gesù dissero: «Non lo sappiamo». Allora anch’egli disse loro: «Neanch’io vi dico con quale autorità faccio queste cose».
28 But how does it seem to you? A certain man had two sons. And approaching the first, he said: ‘Son, go out today to work in my vineyard.’	28 «Che ve ne pare? Un uomo aveva due figli. Si rivolse al primo e disse: “Figlio, oggi va’ a lavorare nella vigna”.
29 And responding, he said, ‘I am not willing.’ But afterwards, being moved by repentance, he went.	29 Ed egli rispose: “Non ne ho voglia”. Ma poi si pentì e vi andò.
30 And approaching the other, he spoke similarly. And answering, he said, ‘I am going, lord.’ And he did not go.	30 Si rivolse al secondo e disse lo stesso. Ed egli rispose: “Sì, signore”. Ma non vi andò.
31 Which of the two did the will of the father?” They said to him, “The first.” Jesus said to them: “Amen I say to you, that tax collectors and prostitutes shall precede you, into the kingdom of God.	31 Chi dei due ha compiuto la volontà del padre?». Risposero: «Il primo». E Gesù disse loro: «In verità io vi dico: i pubblicani e le prostitute vi passano avanti nel regno di Dio.
32 For John came to you in the way of justice, and you did not believe him. But the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. Yet even after seeing this, you did not repent, so as to believe him.	32 Giovanni infatti venne a voi sulla via della giustizia, e non gli avete creduto; i pubblicani e le prostitute invece gli hanno creduto. Voi, al contrario, avete visto queste cose, ma poi non vi siete nemmeno pentiti così da credergli.
33 Listen to another parable. There was a man, the father of a family, who planted a vineyard, and surrounded it with a hedge, and dug a press in it, and built a tower. And he loaned it out to farmers, and he set out to sojourn abroad.	33 Ascoltate un’altra parabola: c’era un uomo che possedeva un terreno e vi piantò una vigna. La circondò con una siepe, vi scavò una buca per il torchio e costruì una torre. La diede in affitto a dei contadini e se ne andò lontano.
34 Then, when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, so that they might receive its fruits.	34 Quando arrivò il tempo di raccogliere i frutti, mandò i suoi servi dai contadini a ritirare il raccolto.
35 And the farmers apprehended his servants; they struck one, and killed another, and stoned yet another.	35 Ma i contadini presero i servi e uno lo bastonarono, un altro lo uccisero, un altro lo lapidarono.
36 Again, he sent other servants, more than before; and they treated them similarly.	36 Mandò di nuovo altri servi, più numerosi dei primi, ma li trattarono allo stesso modo.
37 Then, at the very end, he sent his son to them, saying: ‘They will revere my son.’	37 Da ultimo mandò loro il proprio figlio dicendo: “Avranno rispetto per mio figlio!”.
38 But the farmers, seeing the son, said among themselves: ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and then we will have his inheritance.’	38 Ma i contadini, visto il figlio, dissero tra loro: “Costui è l’erede. Su, uccidiamolo e avremo noi la sua eredità!”.
39 And apprehending him, they cast him outside the vineyard, and they killed him.	39 Lo presero, lo cacciarono fuori dalla vigna e lo uccisero.
40 Therefore, when the lord of the vineyard arrives, what will he do to those farmers?”	40 Quando verrà dunque il padrone della vigna, che cosa farà a quei contadini?».
41 They said to him, “He will bring those evil men to an evil end, and he will loan out his vineyard to other farmers, who shall repay to him the fruit in its time.”	41 Gli risposero: «Quei malvagi, li farà morire miseramente e darà in affitto la vigna ad altri contadini, che gli consegneranno i frutti a suo tempo».
42 Jesus said to them: “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders have rejected has become the cornerstone. By the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes?’	42 E Gesù disse loro: «Non avete mai letto nelle Scritture: La pietra che i costruttori hanno scartato è diventata la pietra d’angolo; questo è stato fatto dal Signore ed è una meraviglia ai nostri occhi?
43 Therefore, I say to you, that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and it shall be given to a people who shall produce its fruits.	43 Perciò io vi dico: a voi sarà tolto il regno di Dio e sarà dato a un popolo che ne produca i frutti.
44 And whoever will have fallen on this stone shall be broken, yet truly, on whomever it shall fall, it will crush him.”	44 Chi cadrà sopra questa pietra si sfracellerà; e colui sul quale essa cadrà, verrà stritolato».
45 And when the leaders of the priests, and the Pharisees had heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them.	45 Udite queste parabole, i capi dei sacerdoti e i farisei capirono che parlava di loro.
46 And though they sought to take hold of him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.	46 Cercavano di catturarlo, ma ebbero paura della folla, perché lo considerava un profeta.
