1 The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by the hand of Malachi.	1 Oracolo. Parola di Jahvè a Israele per mezzo di Malachia.
2 I have loved you, says the Lord, and you have said, “In what way have you loved us?” Was not Esau brother to Jacob, says the Lord? And have I not loved Jacob,	2 Io vi ho amato, dice Jahvè. Eppure voi dite: «Come hai dimostrato di amarci?» Non è forse Esaù fratello di Giacobbe? — Oracolo di Jahvè. — Eppure io ho amato Giacobbe
3 but held hatred for Esau? And I have set his mountains in solitude, and his inheritance with the serpents of the desert.	3 e ho odiato Esaù; ho fatto dei suoi monti un deserto e del suo possedimento pascoli di steppa.
4 But if Idumea will say, “We have been destroyed, but when we return, we will build up what has been destroyed,” thus says the Lord of hosts: They will build up, and I will destroy. And they will be called “The limits of impiety,” and, “The people with whom the Lord has been angry, even to eternity.”	4 Se Edom dice: «Siamo rovinati, ma torneremo a costruire sulle rovine», così dice Jahvè degli eserciti: «Essi costruiranno e io demolirò; e saranno chiamati “La regione dell’empietà”
5 And your eyes will see. And you will say, “May the Lord be magnified beyond the limits of Israel.”	5 e “Il popolo con cui Jahvè è sdegnato per sempre”. I vostri occhi lo vedranno e voi stessi dichiarerete: “Jahvè si mostra grande sul territorio di Israele”.
6 The son honors the father, and the servant his master. If, therefore, I am Father, where is my honor? And if I am Master, where is my fear? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. And you have said, “In what way, have we despised your name?”	6 Un figlio onora il padre e un servitore teme il signore. Ora, se io sono un padre; dove è la gloria che mi spetta? E, se sono un signore, dove è il timore verso di me?» Jahvè degli eserciti vi dice: «O sacerdoti che disprezzate il mio nome! Voi dite: “In che cosa abbiamo mostrato di disprezzare il tuo nome?”.
7 You offer polluted bread upon my altar, and you say, “In what way, have we polluted you?” In that you say, “The table of the Lord has been despised.”	7 Presentate sul mio altare cibo contaminato. Voi dite: “In che cosa ti contaminiamo?”. Mentre dite: “La mensa di Jahvè è spregevole”».
8 If you offer the blind for sacrifice, is this not evil? And if you offer the lame and the sick, is this not evil? Offer it to your leader, if he will be pleased with it, or if he will accept your face, says the Lord of hosts.	8 Quando presentate un animale cieco in sacrificio non è nulla di male? Quando presentate un animale storpio o di scarto non c'è nulla di male? Offrilo un po’ al tuo governatore; lo gradirà? O ti farà buon viso? Dice Jahvè degli eserciti!
9 And now, beseech the face of God, so that he may have mercy on you (for by your hand has this been done) if, in any way, he might accept your faces, says the Lord of hosts.	9 E allora placate la faccia di Dio, così che abbia misericordia di noi. Se ciò avviene da parte vostra farà egli buon viso a qualcuno di voi? Dice Jahvè degli eserciti.
10 Who is there among you that would close the doors and enflame my altar without pay? I have no favor in you, says the Lord of hosts. And I will not accept a gift from your hand.	10 Qualcuno di voi chiuda le porte; non abbiate più ad ‘accendere il mio altare invano! Non pongo il mio compiacimento in voi — dice Jahvè degli eserciti — né gradisco l’oblazione dalle vostre mani.
11 For, from the rising of the sun even to its setting, my name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place, a clean oblation is being sacrificed and offered to my name. For my name is great among the Gentiles, says the Lord of hosts.	11 Poiché dal sorgere del sole fino al suo tramonto il mio nome è grande fra le genti: e in ogni luogo si presenta un sacrificio, si offre al mio nome un’oblazione monda. Sì, il mio nome è grande tra le genti, dice Jahvè degli eserciti.
12 And you have polluted it, in that you say, “The table of the Lord has been contaminated; and that which is placed upon it is contemptible, compared with the fire that devours it.”	12 Ora voi lo profanate, quando dite: «La mensa del Signore è contaminata, e anche un prodotto dappoco può passare come cibo da lei offerto».
13 And you have said, “Behold our labor,” and you have exhaled it away, says the Lord of hosts. And you brought in by plunder the lame, and the sick, and brought it in as a gift. How can I receive this from your hand, says the Lord?	13 Voi dite: «Ecco, che lavoro!» Mi provocate all’ira — dice Jahvè degli eserciti — e offrite animali rubati o storpi o di scarto e li portate in oblazione: posso forse accoglierli con gradimento? Dice Jahvè.
14 Cursed is the deceitful, who holds in his flock a male, and, when making a vow, offers in sacrifice that which is feeble to the Lord. For I am a great King, says the Lord of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the Gentiles.	14 Sia maledetto il fraudolento, che, avendo nel gregge un maschio, lo vota, ma al Signore sacrifica un animale difettoso: poiché io sono un re grande — dice Jahvè degli eserciti — e il mio nome è temuto fra le genti.
