1 And it happened that, in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:	1 Im elften Jahre, am ersten Tage des dritten Monats, erging das Wort des HERRN an mich folgendermaßen:
2 “Son of man, speak to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his people: To whom can you be compared in your greatness?	2 »Menschensohn, richte an den Pharao, den König von Ägypten, und an sein Gepränge (vgl. 30,10) folgende Worte.«
3 Behold, Assur is like the cedar of Lebanon, with fair branches, and full of leaves, and of high stature, and his summit has been elevated above the thick branches.	3 »›Wem glichest du in deiner Größe? Ja, du warst einer Edeltanne gleich, einer Zeder auf dem Libanon, die schön von Geäst und mit beschattendem Laubwerk und hoch an Wuchs war, so daß ihr Wipfel bis in die Wolken hineinragte.
4 The waters have nourished him. The abyss has exalted him. Its rivers have flowed around his roots, and it has sent forth its streams to all the trees of the regions.	4 Das Wasser hatte sie groß wachsen lassen, die unterirdische Flut sie in die Höhe getrieben; denn deren Strömung ging rings um ihren Standort herum, während sie sonst nur Rinnsale an alle Bäume des Gefildes gelangen ließ.
5 Because of this, his height was exalted above all the trees of the regions, and his groves were multiplied, and his own branches were elevated, because of the many waters.	5 Darum ragte ihr Wuchs über alle Bäume des Gefildes empor, und ihre Zweige wurden zahlreich und ihre Äste lang von der reichlichen Bewässerung, indem sie sich ausbreitete.
6 And when he had extended his shadow, all the birds of the air made their nests in his branches, and all the beasts of the forest conceived their young under his foliage, and an assembly of the many peoples lived under his shadow.	6 In ihren Zweigen nisteten alle Vögel des Himmels, unter ihrem Laubdach warfen alle wilden Tiere ihre Jungen, und in ihrem Schatten wohnten all die vielen Völker.
7 And he was most beautiful in his greatness and in the expansion of his groves. For his root was near many waters.	7 Schön war sie in ihrem hohen Wuchs, durch die Länge ihrer Zweige; denn ihre Wurzeln lagen an reichlichem Wasser.
8 The cedars in the Paradise of God were not higher than he was. The spruce trees were not equal to his summit, and the plane trees were not equal to his fullness. No tree in the Paradise of God was similar to him or to his beauty.	8 Keine Zeder im Garten Gottes reichte an sie heran, die Zypressen kamen ihr nicht gleich mit ihren Zweigen, und die Platanen hatten nicht solche Äste wie sie: kein Baum im Garten Gottes konnte sich an Schönheit mit ihr vergleichen.
9 For I made him beautiful, and dense with many branches. And all the trees of delight, which were in the Paradise of God, were jealous of him.	9 Ich hatte sie durch die Menge ihrer Zweige so schön gemacht, daß alle Bäume Edens im Garten Gottes neidisch auf sie waren.‹«
10 Because of this, thus says the Lord God: Since he was sublime in height, and he made his summit green and dense, and his heart was exalted because of his height,	10 Darum hat Gott der HERR so gesprochen: »Weil sie so hochragend an Wuchs geworden war und ihren Wipfel bis in die Wolken hatte hineinragen lassen und ihr Sinn infolge ihres hohen Wuches hochfahrend geworden war,
11 I have delivered him into the hands of the most powerful one among the Gentiles, so that he will deal with him. I have cast him out, in accord with his impiety.	11 so habe ich sie der Gewalt eines Mächtigen unter den Völkern preisgegeben, der mit ihr nach ihrer Bosheit verfahren soll: infolge ihrer Verfehlung habe ich sie verstoßen.«
12 And foreigners, and the most cruel among the nations, will cut him down. And they will cast him on the mountains. And his branches will fall in every steep valley, and his grove will be broken apart on every cliff of the earth. And all the peoples of the earth will withdraw from his shadow, and abandon him.	12 Da haben Fremde sie umgehauen, die wildesten unter den Völkern, und haben sie hingeworfen; auf die Berge und in alle Täler sind ihre Zweige gefallen: ihre Äste lagen zerbrochen in allen Flußtälern des Landes, und alle Völker der Erde zogen aus ihrem Schatten hinweg und ließen sie unbeachtet liegen.
13 All the birds of the air lived upon his ruins, and all the beasts of the countryside were among his branches.	13 Auf ihren umgefallenen Stamm setzten sich alle Vögel des Himmels nieder, und an ihre Zweige machten sich alle Tiere des Feldes,
14 For this reason, none of the trees among the waters will exalt themselves because of their height, nor will they place their summits above the thick branches and foliage, nor will any of those that are irrigated stand out because of their height. For they have all been delivered unto death, to the lowest part of the earth, into the midst of the sons of men, those who descend into the pit.	14 damit keine Bäume am Wasser sich forthin wegen ihres hohen Wuchses überheben möchten und ihren Wipfel bis in die Wolken hineinragen ließen und die Gewaltigen unter ihnen sich nicht stolz hinstellten in ihrer Hoheit, alle, die vom Wasser getränkt werden; denn sie sind alle dem Tode geweiht und müssen in das unterirdische Land hinab, mitten unter die anderen Menschenkinder, zu denen hin, die in die Grube hinabgefahren sind.
15 Thus says the Lord God: In the day when he descended into hell, I led in grieving. I covered him with the abyss. And I held back its rivers, and I restrained the many waters. Lebanon was saddened over him, and all the trees of the field were struck together.	15 So hat Gott der HERR gesprochen: »An dem Tage, als sie in das Totenreich hinabfuhr, ließ ich die unterirdische Flut sich in Trauer um sie hüllen und hielt ihre Strömung zurück, so daß die reichlichen Wasser gehemmt wurden; den Libanon hüllte ich ihretwegen in ein Trauergewand, und alle Bäume des Gefildes mußten ihretwegen verschmachten.
16 I shook the Gentiles with the sound of his ruin, when I led him down to hell, with those who were descending into the pit. And all the trees of delights, the finest and best in Lebanon, all that were irrigated with waters, were consoled in the deepest parts of the earth.	16 Durch das Gedröhn ihres Sturzes machte ich die Völker erzittern, als ich sie in das Totenreich hinabsinken ließ zu den in die Grube Hinabgefahrenen; da trösteten sich im unterirdischen Lande alle Bäume Edens, die erlesensten und schönsten auf dem Libanon, alle, die vom Wasser getränkt wurden.
17 For they, too, will descend with him into hell, to those who have been slain by the sword. And the arm of each one will reside under his shadow, in the midst of the nations.	17 Auch sie mußten mit ihr in das Totenreich hinabfahren zu den vom Schwert Durchbohrten, die vordem als ihre Helfer in ihrem Schatten gewohnt hatten inmitten der Völker.
18 To whom can you be compared, O famous and sublime one, among the trees of pleasure? Behold, you have been brought down, with the trees of pleasure, to the lowest part of the earth. You will sleep in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who have been slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh, and all his multitude, says the Lord God.”	18 Wem glichest du also an Herrlichkeit und Größe unter den Bäumen Edens? Und doch wirst du mit den Bäumen Edens in das unterirdische Land hinabgestoßen werden; inmitten Unbeschnittener wirst du da bei den vom Schwert Erschlagenen liegen: das ist der Pharao und all sein Gepränge!« (vgl. 30,10) – so lautet der Ausspruch Gottes des HERRN.
