1 ALEPH. O how the gold has become dulled, the finest color has been altered, the stones of the sanctuary have been scattered at the head of every street.	1 [Alef] ¡Cómo se ha oscurecido el oro, se ha empañado el oro más puro! Las piedras sagradas están tiradas en todas las esquinas.
2 BETH. The famous sons of Zion, and those clothed with the foremost gold: how they have become like earthen vessels, the work of the hands of a potter.	2 [Bet] Los hijos de Sión, tan preciados, valuados a precio de oro fino, ¡cómo son tenidos por vasos de arcilla, obra de las manos de un alfarero!
3 GHIMEL. Yet even savages expose their breast and give milk to their young. But the daughter of my people is cruel, like the ostrich in the desert.	3 [Guímel] Hasta los chacales presentan las ubres para amamantar a sus cachorros; pero la hija de mi pueblo se ha vuelto cruel como los avestruces del desierto.
4 DALETH. The tongue of the infant adheres to his palate out of thirst. The little ones have asked for bread, and there was no one to break it for them.	4 [Dálet] La lengua de las criaturas se pega al paladar a causa de la sed; los niños pequeños piden pan, y nadie se lo reparte.
5 HE. Those who were fed indulgently have passed away in the roads. Those who were nourished with saffron have welcomed filth.	5 [He] Los que comían manjares exquisitos desfallecen por las calles; los que se habían criado entre púrpura se abrazan a los residuos.
6 VAU. And the iniquity of the daughter of my people has been made greater than the sin of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, and yet hands did not take captives in her.	6 [Vau] La iniquidad de la hija de mi pueblo ha superado el pecado de Sodoma, que fue destruida en un instante sin que se moviera una mano contra ella.
7 ZAIN. Her Nazirites were whiter than snow, shinier than milk, more ruddy than ancient ivory, more beautiful than sapphire.	7 [Zain] Sus jóvenes eran más puros que la nieve, más blancos que la leche; sus cuerpos, más rojizos que el coral, su figura, un zafiro.
8 HETH. Their face has been blacked more than coals, and they are not recognized in the streets. Their skin has adhered to their bones; it dried out and became like wood.	8 [Jet] Su semblante se ha vuelto más oscuro que el hollín, no se los reconoce por las calles; tienen la piel pegada a los huesos, reseca como madera.
9 TETH. It was better for those slain by the sword, than for those put to death by famine. For these waste away, being consumed by the sterility of the land.	9 [Tet] Fueron más dichosos los muertos por la espada, que los muertos por el hambre: aquellos se desangraron, traspasados; estos, por falta de frutos en los campos.
10 JOD. The hands of pitiable women have boiled their sons. They became their food in the grief of the daughter of my people.	10 [Iod] Las mismas manos de tiernas mujeres cocinaron a sus hijos: ellos les sirvieron de alimento en el desastre de la hija de mi pueblo.
11 CAPH. The Lord has completed his fury; he has poured out the wrath of his indignation. And he has kindled a fire in Zion, and it has devoured its foundations.	11 [Caf] El Señor desahogó su furor, derramó el ardor de su ira; encendió un fuego en Sión que devoró hasta sus cimientos.
12 LAMED. The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, did not believe that the adversary and the enemy would enter through the gates of Jerusalem.	12 [Lámed] Nunca hubieran creído los reyes de la tierra ni todos los habitantes del mundo, que entrarían el adversario y el enemigo por las puertas de Jerusalén.
13 MEM. It is because of the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, who have shed the blood of the just in her midst.	13 [Mem] Esto sucedió por los pecados de sus profetas, por las iniquidades de sus sacerdotes, que derramaron en medio de ella la sangre de los justos.
14 NUN. They have wandered in the streets like the blind; they have been defiled with blood. And when they were not able, they held their garments.	14 [Nun] Vagaban como ciegos por las calles, manchados de sangre, de manera que no se podía tocar sus vestiduras.
15 SAMECH. “Go back, you polluted ones!” they cried out to them. “Go back, go away, do not touch!” Of course, they argued, and being removed, they said among the Gentiles, “He will no longer dwell among them.”	15 [Sámec] «¡Apártense! ¡Un impuro! –les gritaban– ¡Apártense, apártense! ¡No toquen!». Si huían y vagaban entre las naciones, se decía: «¡No pueden quedarse más aquí!».
16 PHE. The face of the Lord has divided them. He will no longer respect them. They were not ashamed before the faces of the priests, nor did they take pity on the elderly.	16 [Pe] El rostro del Señor los dispersó, no volverá a mirarlos. Ya no se respeta a los sacerdotes ni se tiene piedad de los ancianos.
17 AIN. While we were still standing, our eyes failed, expecting help for us in vain, when we looked attentively toward a nation that was not able to save.	17 [Ain] Aún se consumían nuestros ojos, aguardando en vano una ayuda; en nuestros puestos de guardia, mirábamos hacia una nación que no puede salvar.
18 SADE. Our footsteps have slipped on the paths of our own streets. Our end draws near. Our days have been completed, for our end has arrived.	18 [Sade] Se acechaban nuestros pasos, no podíamos andar por las calles. Se acercaba nuestro fin, se habían cumplido nuestros días: ¡sí, había llegado nuestro fin!
19 COPH. Our persecutors have been swifter than the eagles of the sky. They have been pursuing us above the mountains; they have lain in wait for us in the desert.	19 [Qof] Nuestros perseguidores eran más veloces que las águilas del cielo: nos hostigaban en las montañas, nos tendían emboscadas en el desierto.
20 RES. The spirit of our mouth, Christ the Lord, has been captured by our sins; to him, we said, “In your shadow, we will live among the Gentiles.”	20 [Res] El Ungido del Señor, nuestro aliento vital, quedó atrapado en sus fosas: aquel de quien decíamos: «¡A su sombra viviremos entre las naciones!».
21 SIN. Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Edom, who dwells in the Land of Uz. The cup will also pass to you; you will be inebriated as well as naked.	21 [Sin] ¡Regocíjate y alégrate, hija de Edom, tú que habitas en el país de Us! También tú recibirás la copa: te embriagarás y te desnudarás.
22 THAU. Your iniquity has been completed, O daughter of Zion. He will no longer send you away to captivity. He has visited your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he has uncovered your sins.	22 [Tau] Tu iniquidad se ha borrado, hija de Sión: ¡él no volverá a desterrarte! El castigará tu culpa, hija de Edom, ¡pondrá al descubierto tus pecados!
