1 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will raise up, over Babylon and over its inhabitants, who have lifted up their heart against me, something like a pestilent wind.	1 Esto dice el Señor: | Voy a suscitar contra Babilonia, | contra los que habitan el corazón del país, | un viento devastador que los destruya.
2 And I will send winnowers into Babylon, and they will winnow her, and they will demolish her land. For they will overwhelm her from every side in the day of her affliction.	2 Voy a enviar contra Babilonia | extranjeros que la aventarán | y dejarán vacío su territorio: | la atacarán por todas partes | el día de la catástrofe.
3 Let him who draws the bow, not draw his bow. And let him who wears armor, not rise up. Do not spare her young men. Destroy her entire military.	3 Que no se amedrenten los arqueros | ni se cansen los que llevan coraza; | no perdonéis a sus guerreros, | acabad con todo su ejército.
4 And the slain will fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and the wounded in its regions.	4 Rodarán víctimas en tierra caldea, | gente traspasada por sus calles.
5 Yet Israel and Judah have not been widowed by their God, the Lord of hosts, though their land has been filled with transgression against the Holy One of Israel.	5 Pues Israel y Judá no son viudas | de su Dios, el Señor del universo. | En cambio, la tierra de los caldeos | es culpable ante el Santo de Israel.
6 Flee from the midst of Babylon! And let each one save his own life. Do not be silent about her iniquity. For it is the time of revenge from the Lord. He himself will repay her, in her turn.	6 Huid, abandonad Babilonia, | poned vuestras vidas a salvo, | no acabéis mal por su culpa; | que es la hora de la venganza del Señor, | el día en que va a pedirles cuentas.
7 Babylon is a gold cup in the hand of the Lord, inebriating the entire earth. The nations have drunk from her wine, and therefore they have staggered.	7 Babilonia era una copa de oro, | a merced de la mano del Señor, | que emborrachaba a toda la tierra; | las naciones bebían de su vino | hasta el punto de perder el sentido.
8 Suddenly, Babylon has fallen and been crushed. Wail over her! Take a balm to her pain, if perhaps she may be healed.”	8 De pronto cayó Babilonia, | se rompió: ¡llorad por ella! | Traed bálsamo para sus llagas, | tal vez encontremos remedio.
9 “We would have cured Babylon, but there is no cure. Let us abandon her, and let each one of us go to his own land. For her judgment has reached even to the heavens, and has been lifted up even to the clouds.	9 Intentamos curar a Babilonia, | pero es imposible: ¡dejadla, | volvamos cada cual a nuestra tierra! | Pues su condena llega hasta el cielo, | alcanza la altura de las nubes.
10 The Lord has brought forth our justices. Come and let us describe in Zion the work of the Lord our God.”	10 El Señor decidió a favor nuestro; | vamos, proclamemos en Sión | la hazaña del Señor, nuestro Dios.
11 Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers. The Lord has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes. And his mind is against Babylon, so that he may destroy her. For this is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.	11 Afilad las saetas, llenad las aljabas; | el Señor incita a los reyes de Media, | pues ha decidido destruir Babilonia: | así el Señor se toma venganza | por haber destruido su templo.
12 Upon the walls of Babylon, lift up a sign. Increase the watch! Rouse the watchmen! Prepare ambushes! For the Lord has planned and has accomplished all that he has spoken, against the inhabitants of Babylon.	12 Alzad bien altas las enseñas | en dirección a los muros de Babilonia; | reforzad la guardia, | apostad centinelas, | tended emboscadas. | El Señor lleva a cabo lo que piensa, | lo que predijo contra el pueblo de Babilonia.
13 You who live above many waters, rich in treasures: your end has arrived, your measure has been cut short.	13 Ciudad repleta de tesoros, | bañada por aguas caudalosas, | ¡llega tu fin, te cortan la trama!
14 The Lord of hosts has sworn by himself, saying: “For I will fill you with men as with locusts, and they will sing a rhythmic chant against you.”	14 El Señor del universo lo jura por su vida: | Aunque estés repleta de gente, | como una invasión de langosta, | cantarán victoria sobre ti.
15 The One who made the earth by his strength, who prepared the world by his wisdom, and who stretched out the heavens by his prudence:	15 Él hizo la tierra con su poder, | asentó el orbe con su saber, | desplegó el cielo con su habilidad.
16 when he utters his voice, the waters will be multiplied in the heavens. The One who lifts up the clouds from the ends of the earth: he has turned lightning into rain, and he has brought forth wind from his storehouses.	16 Cuando deja oír su voz, | retumban las aguas del cielo, | hace que las nubes se eleven | desde el confín mismo de la tierra; | con los rayos desata la lluvia | y saca de sus depósitos el viento.
17 Each man has become foolish before his own knowledge. Each sculptor has been confounded by his own sculpture. For what he has formed of them is a lie, and there is no spirit in them.	17 Los hombres se atontan con su técnica, | los plateros fracasan con sus ídolos: | son pura mentira, sin espíritu;
18 They are empty works, deserving of ridicule. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.	18 son obras vacías, engañosas, | destinadas al día del castigo.
19 The portion of Jacob is not like their portion. For the One who made all things is his portion, and Israel is the scepter of his inheritance. The Lord of hosts is his name:	19 No así la «Porción de Jacob», | pues es el creador de todo; | Israel es tribu de su propiedad, | se llama Señor del universo.
20 “For me, you strike together the instruments of war; and with you, I will strike together nations; and with you, I will scatter the kingdoms.	20 Tú eres mi mazo, mi arma de guerra: | contigo machacaré naciones, | contigo aniquilaré reinos;
21 And with you, I will strike together the horse and his rider; and with you, I will strike together the chariot and its rider.	21 contigo machacaré caballos y caballeros, | contigo machacaré carros y aurigas;
22 And with you, I will strike together man and woman; and with you, I will strike together the old man and the boy; and with you, I will strike together the young man and the virgin.	22 contigo machacaré hombres y mujeres, | contigo machacaré jóvenes y adultos, | contigo machacaré muchachos y muchachas;
23 And with you, I will strike together the pastor and his flock; and with you, I will strike together the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you, I will strike together military leaders and civil leaders.	23 contigo machacaré pastores y rebaños, | contigo machacaré labradores y yuntas, | contigo machacaré gobernadores y prefectos.
24 And I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea for all their evil that they have done in Zion, before your eyes, says the Lord.	24 Pero haré que pague Babilonia | y todos los habitantes de Caldea | todos los males que hicieron | en Sión delante de vosotros | —oráculo del Señor—.
25 Behold, I am against you, you pestilent mountain, says the Lord, for you are corrupting the entire earth. And I will extend my hand over you, and I will roll you down from the rocks, and I will make you into a burning mountain.	25 Vengo contra ti, montaña asesina, | asesina de toda la tierra | —oráculo del Señor—. | Extenderé mi brazo contra ti, | te lanzaré rodando entre peñascos, | haré de ti una montaña quemada.
26 And they will not take from you a stone for the corner, nor a stone for the foundations. Instead, you will be destroyed unto eternity,” says the Lord.	26 Nadie acudirá a buscar en ti | piedras angulares o de cimiento, | pues serás una ruina perpetua | —oráculo del Señor—.
27 Lift up a sign in the land! Sound the trumpet among the nations! Sanctify the nations against her. Announce against her the kings of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Number against her Taphsar. Lead in the horse, like the stinging locust.	27 Alzad el estandarte en el país, | convocad con el cuerno a las naciones; | consagrad naciones contra ella, | reclutad contra ella a los reinos | de Ararat, Miní y Asquenaz; | designad a un comandante contra ella, | enviad caballos como langostas erizadas.
28 Sanctify the nations against her: the kings of Media, their military leaders, and all their civil leaders, and the entire land under their authority.	28 Consagrad naciones contra ella, | convocad a los reyes de Media, | a sus gobernadores y prefectos, | y a todo el imperio que gobierna.
29 And the earth will be shaken and will be disturbed. For the plan of the Lord against Babylon will awaken, so that he may make the land of Babylon desolate and uninhabitable.	29 La tierra temblará entre sacudidas | cuando se cumplan en contra de Babel | los planes del Señor para con ella: | dejar el territorio babilonio | desolado, sin nadie que lo habite.
30 The strong ones of Babylon have ceased to do battle. They have lived in fortresses. Their health has been devoured, and they have become like women. Her tabernacles have been set ablaze; her bars have been broken.	30 Los más aguerridos de Babilonia | han abandonado la batalla; | se quedan dentro de las fortalezas, | les falla el valor, igual que mujeres. | El fuego consume sus edificios, | sus cerrojos están destrozados.
31 Runner will go forth to meet runner, and messenger will meet messenger, so as to tell the king of Babylon that his city has been captured, from one end to the other,	31 Un correo corre tras otro, | mensajero detrás de mensajero, | para anunciar al rey de Babilonia | que ha caído del todo su ciudad:
32 and that the fords were seized in advance, and that the marshes have been burned with fire, and that the men of war have been set in disarray.	32 los vados se encuentran cortados, | las esclusas están incendiadas, | los guerreros muertos de miedo.
33 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor. This is the time of her threshing. A little while longer, and the time of her harvest will arrive.”	33 Esto dice el Señor del universo, Dios de Israel: | «Ha quedado la capital de Babilonia | como era dispuesta para la trilla; | en cuanto pase algo de tiempo, | le llegará la hora de la cosecha».
34 “Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, has consumed me, has devoured me. He has made me like an empty vessel. He has swallowed me like a dragon. He has filled his belly with my tender ones, and he has cast me out.	34 Me ha comido, me ha devorado | Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia; | me ha dejado como un plato vacío. | Me ha engullido igual que un dragón, | ha quedado su vientre repleto | de lo más delicioso de mí, | y después me ha vomitado.
35 This iniquity is against me, and so my flesh is upon Babylon,” says the habitation of Zion. “And my blood is upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,” says Jerusalem.	35 Dice la población de Sión: | «Que Babilonia sea responsable | del destrozo sufrido por mi carne»; | dice Jerusalén: | «Que los caldeos sean responsables | de haber derramado mi sangre».
36 Because of this, thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will judge your case, and I will avenge your vengeance, and I will make her sea into a desert, and I will dry up her spring.	36 En respuesta, dice el Señor: | Aquí estoy en defensa de tu causa, | voy a vengarme en tu nombre: | secaré su caudaloso río, | dejaré sus manantiales sin gota;
37 And Babylon will become a tumult, the habitation of dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, because there is no inhabitant.	37 Babilonia acabará arruinada, | convertida en cueva de chacales, | en objeto de espanto y rechifla, | sin una persona que la habite.
38 They will roar together, like lions, they will shake their manes, like young lions.	38 Rugen en grupo, como leones, | gruñen como crías de león.
39 In their heat, I will give them a drink, and I will inebriate them, so that they become drowsy, and sleep an everlasting sleep, and do not rise up, says the Lord.	39 Cuando estén con el ánimo exaltado, | voy a prepararles un festín: | haré que todos se emborrachen, | que una vez llegada la euforia, | se duerman en un sueño eterno, | de modo que no se despierten | —oráculo del Señor—.
40 I will lead them away, like lambs to the slaughter, and like rams with young goats.	40 Los llevaré como corderos al matadero, | lo mismo que carneros o cabritos.
41 How was Sesac captured, and how was the renowned one of all the earth seized? How has Babylon become an astonishment among the nations?	41 ¡Cómo ha sido asediada y capturada | Sesac, la admiración de la tierra! | ¡Cómo ha quedado desolada | Babilonia en medio de las naciones!
42 The sea has ascended over Babylon; she has been covered by the multitude of its waves.	42 El mar embistió contra Babel, | la inundó con sus olas tumultuosas:
43 Her cities have become an astonishment, an uninhabited and desolate land, a land in which no one may live, nor may a son of man pass through it.	43 sus ciudades quedaron vacías, | como tierra desértica y reseca; | ya no habrá quien habite en ellas, | no habrá nadie que pase por ellas.
44 And I will visit against Bel in Babylon, and I will cast from his mouth what he has swallowed. And the nations will no longer flow together before him. For even the wall of Babylon will also fall.	44 Pasaré cuentas a Bel en Babilonia, | le haré vomitar todo lo tragado; | ya no acudirán los pueblos a ella, | incluso su muralla se ha derrumbado.
45 Go forth from her midst, my people, so that each one may save his life from the wrath of the fury of the Lord.	45 ¡Sal de Babilonia, pueblo mío, | que todos se pongan a salvo | del incendio de la ira del Señor!
46 For otherwise, your heart may faint, and you may be afraid at the news that is heard in the land. And the news will arrive within a year, and after that year more news will arrive. And iniquity will be in the land, and one ruler will be over another ruler.	46 No os desaniméis ni tembléis | por la noticia que recorre el país, | pues cada año surgen rumores: | que si hay violencia en el país, | que si un jefe se alza contra otro.
47 Because of this, behold, the days are approaching, when I will visit against the graven images of Babylon. And her entire land will be confounded, and all her slain will fall in her midst.	47 Pues bien, veréis que llegan días | en que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia, | su país quedará desconcertado, | cubierto por completo de víctimas.
48 And the heavens and the earth, and all the things that are in them, will give praise over Babylon. For despoilers will approach her from the north, says the Lord.	48 Cielo, tierra y cuanto hay en ellos | estallarán en gritos de alborozo | cuando vean lo que le espera a Babilonia: | que vienen a atacarla por el norte | los devastadores —oráculo del Señor—.
49 And in the manner that Babylon has caused the slain to fall in Israel, so the slain of Babylon will fall over the entire earth.	49 En Babilonia podrían caer | heridos del pueblo de Israel, | igual que cayeron por Babilonia | heridos de toda la tierra.
50 You who have fled from the sword, approach, do not stand still. Remember from afar the Lord, and let Jerusalem rise up in your heart.	50 Los que habéis escapado a la espada | marchaos y no os detengáis: | recordad allá lejos al Señor, | llevad a Jerusalén en el corazón.
51 We have been confounded, for we heard reproach. Shame has covered our faces, for strangers have overwhelmed the holiness of the house of the Lord.	51 ¡Qué vergüenza al enterarnos de la afrenta, | el bochorno cubrió nuestros rostros!: | dicen que extranjeros han pisado | lo más santo del templo del Señor.
52 Because of this, behold, the days are approaching, says the Lord, when I will visit against her graven images, and within all her land the wounded will groan.	52 Por eso, veréis que llegan días | en que yo castigaré a sus ídolos, | y sus heridos gemirán por el país | —oráculo del Señor—.
53 If Babylon were to ascend to heaven, and establish her strength on high, her despoilers would go forth from me, says the Lord.”	53 Aunque suba Babilonia hasta el cielo | y ponga su ciudadela en las alturas, | enviaré devastadores contra ella | —oráculo del Señor—.
54 A voice of outcry from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!	54 Se oyen gritos de socorro en Babilonia, | llanto intenso en la tierra de los caldeos.
55 For the Lord has despoiled Babylon, and he has perished the great voice from her. And their wave will make a sound like many waters. Their voice has uttered a noise.	55 Pero el Señor devastará Babilonia, | acabará con todo su griterío, | aunque bramen como las olas del mar | y resuenen sus voces tumultuosas.
56 For the despoiler has overwhelmed her, that is, Babylon, and her strong ones have been apprehended, and their bow has been weakened. For the Lord, the powerful revenger, will certainly repay.	56 ¡El devastador ataca Babilonia! | Sus guerreros caerán prisioneros, | sus arcos quedarán destrozados, | pues el Señor es un Dios que retribuye, | y al fin les dará su merecido.
57 “And I will inebriate her leaders, and her wise ones, and her military rulers, and her civil rulers, and her strong ones. And they will sleep an everlasting sleep, and they will not awaken,” says the King: the Lord of hosts is his name.	57 Emborracharé a sus nobles y a sus sabios, a sus gobernadores, prefectos y soldados, que dormirán un sueño eterno y no despertarán —oráculo del rey que se llama Señor del universo—.
58 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “That very wide wall of Babylon will be utterly overturned, and her exalted gates will be burned with fire, and the labors of the people will be as nothing, and the labors of the nations will be sent into the fire and will perish.”	58 Esto dice el Señor del universo: | La ancha muralla de Babilonia | será destruida, | sus altos portones, quemados. | ¡En vano trabajan los pueblos, | para el fuego se afanan las naciones!
59 The word that Jeremiah, the prophet, instructed to Seraiah, the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he traveled with king Zedekiah into Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was the leader of the prophets.	59 Encargo que dio el profeta Jeremías a Seraías, hijo de Nerías y nieto de Majsías, cuando marchó deportado a Babilonia en el séquito de Sedecías, rey de Judá. Corría el año cuarto de su reinado, y Seraías era a la sazón jefe de intendencia.
60 And Jeremiah wrote in one book all the evil that was to overwhelm Babylon; all these words were written against Babylon.	60 Jeremías escribió en un rollo la catástrofe que se cernía sobre Babilonia, es decir, las profecías escritas hasta aquí contra Babilonia.
61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: “When you will enter into Babylon, and you will see and read all these words,	61 Jeremías dijo a Seraías: «Cuando llegues a Babilonia, busca el modo de proclamar todas estas profecías.
62 you will say: ‘O Lord, you have spoken against this place so that you may destroy it, so that there would not be anyone, from man even to beast, who may live in it, and so that it may be desolate forever.’	62 Dirás: “Señor, tú decidiste que este lugar fuese destruido, que no quedase en él alma viviente, ni hombres ni animales, y que fuese una perpetua desolación”.
63 And when you will have completed reading this book, you will tie a stone to it, and you will cast it into the midst of the Euphrates.	63 A continuación, cuando termines de leer este rollo, le atas una piedra y lo arrojas al Éufrates,
64 And you will say: ‘So shall Babylon be submerged! And she will not rise up before the face of the affliction that I will lead over her. And she will be broken.’ ” The words of Jeremiah thus far.	64 al tiempo que dices: “Así se hundirá Babilonia, para no levantarse”, pues voy a traer sobre ella una terrible desgracia». Hasta aquí las palabras de Jeremías.
