Jeremiah 25

1 The word that came to Jeremiah about all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah. The same is the first year of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon.	1 Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie touchant tout le peuple de Juda, la quatrième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda (c'était la première année de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone),
2 And the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying:	2 et que le prophète Jérémie annonça à tout le peuple de Juda, et à tous les habitants de Jérusalem, en disant:
3 “From the thirteenth year of Josiah, the son of Amon, the king of Judah, even until this day, which is the twenty-third year, the word of the Lord has been given to me, and I have spoken to you, rising while it was still night, and speaking, and yet you have not listened.	3 Depuis la treizième année de Josias, fils d'Ammon, roi de Juda, jusqu'à ce jour, il y a de cela vingt-trois ans, la parole du Seigneur m'a été adressée, et Je vous l'ai annoncée, me levant la nuit, et parlant, et vous n'avez pas écouté.
4 And the Lord has sent to you all his servants, the prophets, rising at first light, and sending, and yet you have not listened, and you have not inclined your ears, so that you would hear,	4 Et le Seigneur vous a envoyé tous Ses serviteurs, les prophètes, Il les a envoyés dès le matin; et vous n'avez pas écouté, et vous n'avez pas prêté l'oreille pour entendre.
5 when he said: Return, each one from his evil way, and from your wicked thoughts. And you shall dwell in the land, which the Lord has given to you and to your fathers, from ancient times and even forever.	5 lorsqu'Il disait : Revenez chacun de votre voie mauvaise et de vos pensées criminelles, et vous habiterez de siècle en siècle dans la terre que le Seigneur a donnée à vous et à vos pères;
6 And do not choose to go after strange gods, so that you would serve them and adore them. And do not provoke me to wrath by the works of your hands. And then I will not afflict you.	6 n'allez point après les dieux étrangers pour les servir et les adorer, et ne provoquez pas Ma colère par les oeuvres de vos mains, et Je ne vous affligerai pas.
7 And yet you have not listened to me, says the Lord, and so you have provoked me to anger with the works of your hands, to your own harm.”	7 Et vous ne M'avez pas écouté, dit le Seigneur; mais vous avez provoqué Ma colère par les oeuvres de vos mains,pour votre malheur.
8 Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Since you have not listened to my words,	8 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées : Parce que vous n'avez pas écouté Mes paroles,
9 behold, I will send for and take all the associates of the north, says the Lord, and Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will lead them over this land, and over its inhabitants, and over all the nations that are around it. And I will destroy them, and I will set them in the midst of stupor and hissing, and continual desolations.	9 J'enverrai et Je prendrai tous les peuples de l'aquilon, dit le Seigneur, et Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, Mon serviteur, et Je les amènerai contre ce pays, et contre ses habitants, et contre toutes les nations qui l'environnent; Je les exterminerai, et J'en ferai un objet d'étonnement, et de mépris, et des solitudes éternelles.
10 And I will perish from them the voice of gladness and the voice of rejoicing, the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstone and the light of the lamp.	10 Je ferai cesser parmi eux les cris de joie et les cris d'allégresse, les chants de l'époux et les chants de l'épouse, le bruit de la meule et la lumière de la lampe.
11 And this entire land will be in desolation and in stupor. And all these nations will serve the king of Babylon, for seventy years.	11 Et tout ce pays deviendra un désert et un objet d'épouvante; et toutes ces nations seront assujetties au roi de Babylone pendant soixante-dix ans.
12 And when the seventy years have been completed, I will visit their iniquity upon the king of Babylon, and upon that nation, and upon the land of the Chaldeans, says the Lord. And I will set it in continual desolations.	12 Et lorsque ces soixante-dix ans seront accomplis, Je visiterai le roi de Babylone et son peuple, dit le Seigneur, leur iniquité, et la terre des Chaldéens, et Je la réduirai en une solitude éternelle.
13 And I will lead over that land all my words, which I have spoken against it, all that has been written in this book, everything whatsoever that Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.	13 Et Je réaliserai sur ce pays toutes Mes paroles que J'ai prononcées contre lui, tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre, et tout ce que Jérémie a prophétisé contre toutes les nations,
14 For they have served them, though these were populous nations and great kings. And I will repay them according to their works and according to the deeds of their hands.”	14 parce que, quoique ce fussent des peuples nombreux et de grands rois, ils leur ont été assujettis; et Je leur rendrai selon leurs oeuvres et selon les actions de leurs mains.
15 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Take the chalice of the wine of this fury from my hand. And you shall cause all the nations, to which I will send you, to drink from it.	15 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : Prends de Ma main cette coupe du vin de Ma fureur, et tu en feras boire à tous les peuples vers lesquels Je t'enverrai.
16 And they will drink, and be stirred up, and become maddened, before the face of the sword that I will send among them.”	16 Ils en boiront, et ils seront troublés, et ils deviendront fous en face du glaive que J'enverrai contre eux.
17 And I received the chalice from the hand of the Lord, and I caused all the nations, to which the Lord has sent me, to drink from it:	17 Et Je pris la coupe de la main du Seigneur, et J'en fis boire à tous les peuples vers lesquels le Seigneur m'avait envoyé:
18 Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and its kings, and its leaders, so that I gave them over to desolation, and stupor, and hissing, and a curse, just as it is this day.	18 à Jérusalem et aux villes de Juda, à ses rois et à ses princes, pour en faire un désert, et un objet d'étonnement, et de mépris, et de malédiction, comme on le voit aujourd'hui;
19 “But as for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and his servants, and his leaders, and all his people,	19 au pharaon, roi d'Egypte, à ses serviteurs, à ses princes, et à tout son peuple,
20 and the entire populace in general: all the kings of the land of the south, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,	20 et généralement à tous les rois du pays d'Ausite, et à tous les rois du pays des Philistins, à Ascalon, à Gaza, à Accaron, et à ce qui reste d'Azot,
21 and Idumea, and Moab, and the sons of Ammon,	21 à l'Idumée, à Moab, et aux enfants d'Ammon;
22 and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the land of the islands that are across the sea,	22 à tous les rois de Tyr et à tous les rois de Sidon, et aux rois du pays des îles qui sont au delà de la mer;
23 and Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all those who have shaved off their hair,	23 à Dédan, à Théma, et à Buz, et à tous ceux qui se coupent la chevelure,
24 and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the west, who live in the desert,	24 à tous les rois d'Arabie, à tous les rois d'occident qui habitent dans le désert;
25 and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media,	25 à tous les rois de Zambri, et à tous les rois d'Elam, et à tous les rois des Mèdes,
26 and likewise, all the kings of the north from near to far, each one facing his brother, and all the kingdoms upon the face of the earth, and the king of Sesac: all these shall drink after them.	26 à tous les rois de l'aquilon, proches ou éloignés, à chacun pour l'exciter contre son frère, à tous les royaumes du monde, qui sont sur la face de la terre; et le roi Sésach boira après eux.
27 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, and be inebriated, and vomit, and fall down. And you shall not rise up before the face the sword that I will send among you.	27 Et tu leur diras : Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : Buvez, et enivrez-vous, et vomissez, et tombez sans vous relever, à la vue du glaive que J'enverrai contre vous.
28 And if they refuse to receive the cup from your hand and to drink, you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord of hosts: Certainly, you shall drink!	28 Et s'ils ne veulent pas recevoir de ta main cette coupe pour boire, tu leur diras : Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées : Vous boirez certainement;
29 For behold, I am beginning to afflict the city in which my name has been invoked, and will you be innocent and immune? You will not be immune! For I will call the sword over all the inhabitants of the earth, says the Lord of hosts.	29 car voici, dans la ville où Mon nom est invoqué Je vais commencer à châtier, et vous seriez exemptés comme si vous étiez innocents! Vous ne serez pas exemptés, car J'appellerai le glaive contre tous les habitants de la terre, dit le Seigneur des armées.
30 And you shall prophesy to them all these words, and you shall say to them: The Lord will roar from on high, and he will utter his voice from his holy habitation. When roaring, he will roar over the place of his beauty. He will call out, like those who chant in rhythm as they trample the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.	30 Et toi, tu leur prophétiseras toutes ces choses, et tu leur diras : Le Seigneur rugira d'en haut, et Il fera entendre Sa voix de Sa demeure sainte; Il rugira contre le lieu de Sa gloire, un chant semblable à celui de ceux qui foulent le raisin sera chanté contre tous les habitants de la terre.
31 The sound of it will penetrate even to the ends of the earth. For the Lord is entering into judgment with the nations. He himself is entering into judgment with all flesh. I have delivered the impious to the sword, says the Lord.”	31 Le bruit en retentira jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre, car c'est le jugement du Seigneur contre les nations; Il entre en jugement contre toute chair. J'ai livré les impies au glaive, dit le Seigneur.
32 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, an affliction will go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind will go forth from the ends of the earth.	32 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées : Voici que l'affliction va passer d'un peuple à l'autre, et une grande tempête sortira des extrémités de la terre.
33 And the slain of the Lord will be, on that day, from one end of the earth, even to the other end. They will not be mourned, and they will not be gathered, and they will not be buried. They will lie upon the face of the earth like dung.	33 Et ceux que le Seigneur aura tués ce jour-là seront étendus d'une extrémité de la terre à l'autre; on ne les pleurera pas, on ne les relèvera pas, et on ne les ensevelira pas; mais ils seront gisants sur la face de la terre, comme du fumier.
34 Wail, O shepherds, and cry out! And sprinkle yourselves with ashes, O nobles of the flock! For the days have been completed that lead to your slaughter and your destruction. And you will fall like precious vessels.	34 Hurlez, pasteurs, et criez; couvrez-vous de cendre, chefs du troupeau; car le temps est accompli où vous serez tués; vous serez dispersés, et vous tomberez comme des vases de prix.
35 And escape will flee from the shepherds, and safety will flee from the nobility of the flock.”	35 La fuite sera impossble pour les pasteurs, et le salut pour les chefs de troupeau.
36 There is a voice of outcry from the shepherds, and a wailing among the nobles among the flock! For the Lord has laid waste to their pastures.	36 On entend les cris des pasteurs et les hurlements des chefs du troupeau, car le Seigneur a ravagé leurs pâturages.
37 And the fields of peace have been silenced before the face of the fury of the Lord.	37 Les champs de la paix sont en silence devant la colère et la fureur du Seigneur.
38 He has abandoned those he sheltered like a lion. For the earth has become a desolation before the face of the anger of the dove, and before the face of the fury of the Lord.	38 Il a abandonné comme un lion sa tanière, parce que la terre a été désolée par la colère de la colombe, et par l'indignation et la fureur du Seigneur.
