1 Simon, the high priest, son of Onias: in his life, he propped up the house, and in his days, he strengthened the temple.	1 Simão filho de Onias sumo sacerdote, em sua vida reparou a casa (do Senhor), e em seus dias fortificou o templo.
2 Even the height of the temple was established by him: the double building and the high walls of the temple.	2 Foi ele que fundou a alta construção do templo, o edifício duplo e as elevadas muralhas do mesmo templo.
3 In his days, waters flowed out from the wells, and these were full beyond measure, like the sea.	3 Em seus dias correram os mananciais das águas dos reservatórios, que se encheram extraordinariamente, como o mar (de bronze).
4 He cared for his nation, and he freed it from perdition.	4 Teve cuidado do seu povo, livrou-o da perdição. Conseguiu engrandecer a cidade; nas suas relações com o povo alcançou glória, e alargou a entrada do templo e do átrio.
5 He prevailed, so as to enlarge the city. And he obtained glory by his behavior among the people. And he enlarged the entrance of the house and of the atrium.
6 He shined in his days like the morning star through the midst of a cloud, and like the full moon.	6 Como a estrela da manhã, no meio da névoa, como a Lua resplandecente no plenilúnio, e como um Sol brilhante, assim luziu no templo de Deus.
7 And he shined forth in the temple of God in this manner: like the sun when it shines brightly,
8 and like a rainbow shining amid clouds of glory, and like flowering roses in the days of spring, and like lilies along the water’s edge, and like sweet smelling frankincense in the days of summer,	8 (Ele era) como o arco-íris que reluz entre as nuvens iluminadas, como a flor das roseiras nos dias da primavera, como os lírios que estão junto da corrente de água, como o incenso que exala fragrância em dias de verão,
9 like a fire shining brightly, and like frankincense burning within a fire,	9 como a chama refulgente, e o incenso que arde no fogo:
10 like a vessel of solid gold, adorned with every precious stone,	10 como um vaso de ouro maciço, ornado de toda a casta de pedras preciosas.
11 like an olive tree producing buds, and like a cypress tree lifting itself on high, when he received the robe of glory and was vested with the consummation of virtue.	11 como a oliveira que brota e como o cipreste que se eleva ao alto, quando tomava a sua vestidura de glória, e quando se revestia de todos os ornamentos da sua dignidade.
12 He gave glory to the vestment of sanctity, when he ascended to the holy altar.	12 Quando subia ao altar santo, honrava as vestiduras sagradas.
13 Then, when he received the portions from the hands of the priests, he himself stood next to the altar. And around him was the crown of his brethren, like a cedar planted on a mountain of Lebanon.	13 Recebia as porções (das vítimas) da mão dos sacerdotes, conservando-se de pé junto do altar, e, em volta, os seus irmãos formavam uma coroa, como uma plantação de cedros do Líbano.
14 And they stood around him like palm branches, and all were sons of Aaron in their glory.	14 Estavam em torno dele, como os ramos duma palmeira, todos os filhos de Aarão na sua glória,
15 Then the oblation of the Lord was in their hands, in the sight of the entire synagogue of Israel. And completing his service at the altar, so as to magnify the offering to the Most High King,	15 A oblação destinada ao Senhor estava nas mãos deles, na presença de toda a assembleia de Israel. Para consumar o sacrifício sobre o altar, para tornar mais solene a oblação ao Rei excelso.
16 he extended his hand to make a libation, and he offered from the blood of the grape.	16 estendia a sua mão para fazer a libação, e derramava o sangue da uva.
17 At the base of the altar, he poured out a divine fragrance to the Most High Prince.	17 Derramava-o ao pé do altar, como um perfume divino ao Príncipe excelso.
18 Then the sons of Aaron shouted; they sounded finely-made trumpets, and they made a great noise, as a memorial in the sight of God.	18 Então os filhos de Aarão levantavam ás suas vozes, tocavam as suas trombetas de metal batido e faziam ressoar um grande concerto para renovarem diante do Senhor a memória (da sua aliança).
19 Then all the people at once hurried forward, and they fell to the ground on their faces, to adore the Lord their God, and to offer prayers to Almighty God Most High.	19 Todo o povo se apressava e prostrava-se com o rosto por terra, para adorar o Senhor seu Deus e fazer orações ao Deus omnipotente e excelso.
20 And the singers of Psalms raised their voices, and a full sweet sound increased in the great house.	20 Os cantores levantavam as suas vozes, e naquela grande casa retinia um som cheio de suavidade.
21 And the people petitioned the Most High Lord in prayer, even until the honor of the Lord was completed, and they finished offering their gifts.	21 O povo fazia as suas preces ao Senhor excelso, até ficar de todo completo o culto do Senhor, até terminarem as funções sagradas.
22 Then, descending, he extended his hands over the entire congregation of the sons of Israel, to give glory to God from his lips, and to glory in his name.	22 Então (o sumo sacerdote), descendo (do altar), levantava as suas mãos sobre todo o congresso dos filhos de Israel, para dar glória a Deus com seus lábios, e para se glorificar no seu nome.
23 And he repeated his prayer, wanting to reveal the virtue of God.	23 (Então o povo) repetia a sua oração, querendo manifestar o poder de Deus.
24 And now, pray to the God of all, who has accomplished great things over all the earth, who has increased our days from our mother’s womb, and who has acted toward us in accord with his mercy.	24 E agora rogai ao Deus de todas as criaturas, que fez grandes coisas em toda a terra, que aumentou os nossos dias desde o ventre materno, e que nos tratou sempre segundo a sua misericórdia.
25 May he give us joyfulness in heart, and may there be peace in our days, in Israel for unending days,	25 Conceda-nos ele a alegria do coração, e reine a paz em Israel em nossos dias e para sempre,
26 so that Israel may trust the mercy of God to be with us, in order to free us in his days.	26 a fim de que Israel creia que está connosco a misericórdia de Deus, e para que ele nos livre no seu dia.
27 Two nations my soul hates, and a third, which I hate, is not a nation:	27 Dois povos aborrece a minha alma, e o terceiro, que eu aborreço nem sequer é um povo:
28 those who sit upon mount Seir, and the Philistines, and the foolish people who live at Shechem.	28 Os que habitam no monte Seir, os Filisteus, e a gente insensata que habita em Siquém.
29 Jesus, the son of Sirach, of Jerusalem, who renewed wisdom from his heart, wrote the doctrine of wisdom and discipline in this book.	29 Estas são as instruções de sabedoria e de disciplina, que deixou escritas neste livro Jesus, filho de Sirach, natural de Jerusalém, o qual derramou a sabedoria do seu coração.
30 Blessed is he who lives by these good things. Whoever places these things in his heart will be ever wise.	30 Bem-aventurado o que se dá a estes bons ensinamentos; o que os conserva em seu coração será sempre sábio.
31 For if he does these things, he will prevail in all things. For the light of God is upon his footsteps.	31 Com efeito, se praticar estas coisas, será capaz de tudo, porque a luz de Deus guiará os seus passos.
