Proverbs 16

1 It is for man to prepare the soul, and for the Lord to govern the tongue.	1 Ao homem pertence formar os projectos em seu coração, mas do Senhor vem a resposta da língua. Todos os caminhos do homem são puros a seus olhos, mas o Senhor pesa os espíritos.
2 All the ways of a man are open to his eyes; the Lord is the one who weighs spirits.
3 Open your works to the Lord, and your intentions will be set in order.	3 Recomenda ao Senhor as tuas obras, e terão bom êxito os teus projectos.
4 The Lord has wrought all things because of himself. Likewise the impious is for the evil day.	4 Tudo fez o Senhor para (glória de) si mesmo; até ao ímpio para o dia mau (do castigo).
5 All the arrogant are an abomination to the Lord. Even if hand will be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice. And this is more acceptable with God than to immolate sacrifices.	5 Todo o arrogante é a abominação do Senhor; ainda que pareça que nada faz, não é inocente.
6 By mercy and truth, iniquity is redeemed. And by the fear of the Lord, one turns away from evil.	6 A iniqüidade expia-se pela misericórdia e pela verdade: o mal evita-se pelo temor do Senhor.
7 When the ways of man will please the Lord, he will convert even his enemies to peace.	7 Quando os caminhos do homem agradarem ao Senhor, reconciliará com ele os seus próprios inimigos.
8 Better is a little with justice, than many fruits with iniquity.	8 Vale mais o pouco com justiça, do que muitos bens com iniqüidade.
9 The heart of man disposes his way. But it is for Lord to direct his steps.	9 O coração do homem pensa no caminho a seguir, mas ao Senhor pertence dirigir os seus passos.
10 Foreknowledge is in the lips of the king. His mouth shall not err in judgment.	10 As palavras do rei são (como) oráculos; que a sua boca, pois, não erre nos julgamentos.
11 Weights and scales are judgments of the Lord. And all the stones in the bag are his work.	11 Peso justo e balança justa são do Senhor, e são obra sua todos os pesos do saco.
12 Those who act impiously are abominable to the king. For the throne is made firm by justice.	12 Os que procedem impiamente são abomináveis ao rei, porque o trono firma-se com a justiça.
13 Just lips are the will of kings. He who speaks honestly shall be loved.	13 São agradáveis ao rei os lábios justos; o que fala coisas rectas será amado.
14 The indignation of a king is a herald of death. And the wise man will appease it.	14 A indignação do rei é prenúncio de morte; porém o varão sábio saberá aplacá-la.
15 In the cheerfulness of the king’s countenance, there is life. And his clemency is like belated rain.	15 Na serenidade do semblante do rei está a vida, e o seu favor é como a chuva primaveril.
16 Possess wisdom, for it is better than gold. And acquire prudence, for it is more precious than silver.	16 Adquirir a sabedoria vale mais que (adquirir) o ouro; adquirir a inteligência vale mais do que a prata.
17 The path of the just turns away from evils. He who guards his soul preserves his way.	17 O caminho dos justos é afastar-se do mal; guarda a sua alma o que vela sobre o seu caminho.
18 Arrogance precedes destruction. And the spirit is exalted before a fall.	18 A soberba precede a ruína. a altivez do espírito precede a queda.
19 It is better to be humbled with the meek, than to divide spoils with the arrogant.	19 Mais vale ser modesto com os humildes do que partilhar de despojos com os soberbos.
20 The learned in word shall find good things. And whoever hopes in the Lord is blessed.	20 O que é atento à palavra (de Deus) encontrará a felicidade; o que espera no Senhor é ditoso.
21 Whoever is wise in heart shall be called prudent. And whoever is sweet in eloquence shall attain to what is greater.	21 O que é sábio de coração, será chamado prudente; o que é doce no falar receberá coisas maiores. A sabedoria é uma fonte de vida para quem a possui; o castigo dos Insensatos é a insensatez.
22 Learning is a fountain of life to one who possesses it. The doctrine of the foolish is senseless.
23 The heart of the wise shall instruct his mouth and add grace to his lips.	23 O coração do sábio instruirá a sua boca, e acrescentará graça aos seus lábios.
24 Careful words are a honeycomb: sweet to the soul and healthful to the bones.	24 As palavras amáveis são um favo de mel, doçura para a alma, saúde para os ossos (ou corpo). (Às vezes) um caminho parece direito ao homem, e contudo o seu termo é a morte.
25 There is a way which seems right to a man, and its end result leads to death.
26 The soul of the laborer labors for himself, because his mouth has driven him to it.	26 O homem que trabalha, para si trabalha, porque a sua boca o constrange a isso. O homem ímpio cava a desgraça, e nos seus lábios se vai ateando o fogo.
27 The impious man digs up evil, and in his lips is a burning fire.
28 A perverse man stirs up lawsuits. And one who is verbose divides leaders.	28 O homem perverso suscita pleitos, e o mexeriqueiro semeia a discórdia entre os amigos.
29 A man of iniquity entices his friend, and he leads him along a way that is not good.	29 O homem iníquo seduz o seu amigo, e o conduz por um caminho que não é bom.
30 Whoever, with astonished eyes, thinks up depravities, biting his lips, accomplishes evil.	30 Aquele que fecha os olhos, maquina Intrigas; o que morde os lábios já praticou o mal.
31 Old age is a crown of dignity, when it is found in the ways of justice.	31 A velhice é uma coroa de glória, a qual se encontra nos caminhos da justiça.
32 A patient man is better than a strong one. And whoever rules his soul is better than one who assaults cities.	32 O homem paciente vale mais do que o valente, e o que domina o seu ânimo mais do que o conquistador de cidades.
33 Lots are cast into the lap, but they are tempered by the Lord.	33 As sortes lançam-se no regaço, mas o Senhor é quem as dispõe.
