To David himself. Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are exceedingly great. You have clothed yourself with confession and beauty;1 Bendize, ó minha alma, o Senhor! Senhor, meu Deus, vós sois imensamente grande! De majestade e esplendor vos revestis,
you are dressed with light like a garment, while you stretch out heaven like a tent.2 envolvido de luz como de um manto. Vós estendestes o céu qual pavilhão,
You cover its heights with water. You set the clouds as your stairs. You walk upon the wings of the winds.3 acima das águas fixastes vossa morada. De nuvens fazeis vosso carro, andais nas asas do vento;
You make your Angels a breath of life, and your ministers a burning fire.4 fazeis dos ventos os vossos mensageiros, e dos flamejantes relâmpagos vossos ministros.
You founded the earth upon its stable base. It will not be bent from age to age.5 Fundastes a terra em bases sólidas que são eternamente inabaláveis.
The abyss, like a garment, is its clothing. The waters will remain standing above the mountains.6 Vós a tínheis coberto com o manto do oceano, as águas ultrapassavam as montanhas.
At your rebuke, they will flee. At the voice of your thunder, they will dread.7 Mas à vossa ameaça elas se afastaram, ao estrondo de vosso trovão estremeceram.
The mountains ascend, and the plains descend, to the place which you have founded for them.8 Elevaram-se as montanhas, sulcaram-se os vales nos lugares que vós lhes destinastes.
You have set a limit that they will not cross. And they will not return to cover the earth.9 Estabelecestes os limites, que elas não hão de ultrapassar, para que não mais tornem a cobrir a terra.
You spring forth fountains in steep valleys. The waters will cross through the midst of the mountains.10 Mandastes as fontes correr em riachos, que serpeiam por entre os montes.
All the wild beasts of the field will drink. The wild donkeys will anticipate in their thirst.11 Ali vão beber os animais dos campos, neles matam a sede os asnos selvagens.
Above them, the flying things of the air will dwell. From the midst of the rocks, they will utter voices.12 Os pássaros do céu vêm aninhar em suas margens, e cantam entre as folhagens.
You irrigate the mountains from your heights. The earth will be satiated from the fruit of your works,13 Do alto de vossas moradas derramais a chuva nas montanhas, do fruto de vossas obras se farta a terra.
producing grass for cattle and herbs for the service of men. So may you draw bread from the earth,14 Fazeis brotar a relva para o gado, e plantas úteis ao homem, para que da terra possa extrair o pão
and wine, in order to cheer the heart of man. Then he may gladden his face with oil, and bread will confirm the heart of man.15 e o vinho que alegra o coração do homem, o óleo que lhe faz brilhar o rosto e o pão que lhe sustenta as forças.
The trees of the field will be saturated, along with the cedars of Lebanon, which he planted.16 As árvores do Senhor são cheias de seiva, assim como os cedros do Líbano que ele plantou.
There, the sparrows will make their nests. The leader of them is the house of the heron.17 Lá constroem as aves os seus ninhos, nos ciprestes a cegonha tem sua casa.
The heights of the hills are for the deer; the rock is a refuge for the hedgehog.18 Os altos montes dão abrigo às cabras, e os rochedos aos arganazes.
He has made the moon for seasons; the sun knows its setting.19 Fizestes a lua para indicar os tempos; o sol conhece a hora de se pôr.
You appointed darkness, and it has become night; all the beasts of the forest will cross through it.20 Mal estendeis as trevas e já se faz noite, entram a rondar os animais das selvas.
The young lions will roar, while searching for and seizing their meal from God.21 Rugem os leõezinhos por sua presa, e pedem a Deus o seu sustento.
The sun arose, and they were gathered together; and in their dens, they will lie down together.22 Mas se retiram ao raiar do sol, e vão se deitar em seus covis.
Man will go forth to his work and to his activities, until the evening.23 É então que o homem sai para o trabalho, e trabalha sem descanso até o entardecer.
How great are your works, O Lord! You have made all things in wisdom. The earth has been filled with your possessions.24 Ó Senhor, quão variadas são as vossas obras! Feitas, todas, com sabedoria, a terra está cheia das coisas que criastes.
This sea is great and its hands are spacious. There are creeping things without number: the small animals with the great.25 Eis o mar, imenso e vasto, onde, sem conta, se agitam animais grandes e pequenos.
There, the ships will pass by this sea-serpent that you have formed to mock them.26 Nele navegam as naus e o Leviatã que criastes para brincar nas ondas.
All these expect you to give them food in due time.27 Todos esses seres esperam de vós que lhes deis de comer em seu tempo.
What you give to them, they will gather. When you open your hand, they will all be filled with goodness.28 Vós lhes dais e eles o recolhem; abris a mão, e se fartam de bens.
But if you turn your face away, they will be disturbed. You will take away their breath, and they will fail, and they will return to their dust.29 Se desviais o rosto, eles se perturbam; se lhes retirais o sopro, expiram e voltam ao pó donde saíram.
You will send forth your Spirit, and they will be created. And you will renew the face of the earth.30 Se enviais, porém, o vosso sopro, eles revivem e renovais a face da terra.
May the glory of the Lord be for all ages. The Lord will rejoice in his works.31 Ao Senhor, glória eterna; alegre-se o Senhor em suas obras!
He considers the earth, and he makes it tremble. He touches the mountains, and they smoke.32 Ele, cujo olhar basta para fazer tremer a terra, e cujo contato inflama as montanhas.
I will sing to the Lord with my life. I will sing psalms to my God, as long as I am.33 Enquanto viver, cantarei à glória do Senhor, salmodiarei o meu Deus enquanto existir.
May my speech be pleasing to him. Truly, I will take delight in the Lord.34 Possam minhas palavras lhe ser agradáveis! Minha única alegria se encontra no Senhor.
Let sinners fade away from the earth, along with the unjust, so that they may not be. Bless the Lord, O my soul.35 Sejam tirados da terra os pecadores e doravante desapareçam os ímpios. Bendize, ó minha alma, o Senhor! Aleluia.
