Then Job, answering, said:1 Job tomó la palabra y dijo:
I have often heard such things; you are all aggravating comforters.2 ¡He oído muchas cosas como ésas! ¡Consoladores funestos sois todos vosotros!
Will there be no end to windy words? Or is it at all a burden to you, if you speak?3 «¿No acabarán esas palabras de aire?» O: «¿qué es lo que te pica para responder?»
I, too, can speak like you; and I also wish that your soul favored my soul.4 También yo podría hablar como vosotros, si estuvierais en mi lugar; contra vosotros ordenaría discursos, meneando por vosotros mi cabeza;
I would also comfort you with speeches and would wag my head over you.5 os confortaría con mi boca, y no dejaría de mover los labios.
I would strengthen you with my mouth, and would move my lips, as if being lenient to you.6 Mas si hablo, no cede mi dolor, y si callo, ¿acaso me perdona?
But what can I do? When I am speaking, my grief will not be quiet; and if I am quiet, it will not withdraw from me.7 Ahora me tiene ya extenuado; tú has llenado de horror a toda la reunión
But now my grief has crushed me, and all my limbs have been reduced to nothing.8 que me acorrala; mi calumniador se ha hecho mi testigo, se alza contra mí, a la cara me acusa;
My wrinkles bear witness against me, and a liar rises up against my face, contradicting me.9 su furia me desgarra y me persigue, rechinando sus dientes contra mí. Mis adversarios aguzan sobre mí sus ojos,
He has gathered together his fury towards me, and, threatening me, he has roared against me with his teeth; my enemy has beheld me with terrible eyes.10 abren su boca contra mí. Ultrajándome hieren mis mejillas, a una se amotinan contra mí.
They have opened their mouths against me, and, reproaching me, they have struck me on the cheek; they are nourished by my sufferings.11 A injustos Dios me entrega, me arroja en manos de malvados.
God has confined me with the immoral, and he has delivered me into the hands of the impious.12 Estaba yo tranquilo cuando él me golpeó, me agarró por la nuca para despedazarme. Me ha hecho blanco suyo:
I, who once was wealthy, am now crushed. He has grabbed me by my neck; he has broken me and has place me before him as a sign.13 me cerca con sus tiros, traspasa mis entrañas sin piedad y derrama por tierra mi hiel.
He has surrounded me with his lances. He has severely wounded my lower back, he has not been lenient, and he has poured out my organs upon the earth.14 Abre en mí brecha sobre brecha, irrumpe contra mí como un guerrero.
He has cut me with wound after wound. He has rushed upon me like a giant.15 Yo he cosido un sayal sobre mi piel, he hundido mi frente en el polvo.
I have sewn sackcloth over my skin, and I have covered my body with ashes.16 Mi rostro ha enrojecido por el llanto, la sombra mis párpados recubre.
My face is swollen from weeping, and my eyelids have dimmed my vision.17 Y eso que no hay en mis manos violencia, y mi oración es pura.
These things I have endured without iniquity in my hand, while I held pure prayers before God.18 ¡Tierra, no cubras tú mi sangre, y no quede en secreto mi clamor!
O earth, do not conceal my blood, nor let my outcry find a hiding place in you.19 Ahora todavía está en los cielos mi testigo, allá en lo alto está mi defensor,
For behold, my witness is in heaven, and my confidante is on high.20 que interpreta ante Dios mis pensamientos; ante él fluyen mis ojos:
My friends are full of words; my eye rains tears upon God.21 ¡Oh, si él juzgara entre un hombre y Dios, como entre un mortal y otro mortal!
And I wish that a man might be so judged before God, just as the son of man is judged with his assistant!22 Pues mis años futuros son contados, y voy a emprender el camino sin retorno.
For behold, a few years pass by, and I am walking a path by which I will not return.
