1 Responding, Moses said, “They will not believe me, and they will not listen to my voice, but they will say: ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”	1 Mosè rispose e disse: «E se non mi crederanno né ascolteranno la mia voce, ma mi diranno: “Jahvè non ti è apparso”?»
2 Therefore, he said to him, “What is that you hold in your hand?” He answered, “A staff.”	2 Jahvè gli domandò: «Che cosa hai in mano?» Mosè rispose: «Un bastone».
3 And the Lord said, “Cast it down upon the ground.” He cast it down, and it was turned into a snake, so that Moses fled away.	3 «Gettalo a terra» gli ordinò Jahvè. Gettato a terra, divenne un serpente e Mosè a tale vista si ritrasse.
4 And the Lord said, “Reach out your hand, and take hold of its tail.” He reached out his hand and took hold, and it was turned into a staff.	4 Ma Jahvè disse a Mosè: «Stendi la mano e afferralo per la coda» — stesa la mano, lo prese e, quando lo ebbe in pugno, il serpente ridivenne un bastone —
5 “So may they believe,” he said, “that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”	5 «affinché credano che ti è apparso Jahvè Dio dei loro Padri, Dio di Abramo, Dio di Isacco, Dio di Giacobbe»,
6 And the Lord said again, “Put your hand into your bosom.” And when he had put it into his bosom, he brought it out leprous, resembling snow.	6 Jahvè gli ordinò ancora: «Metti la mano nel seno». Egli mise la mano nel seno, la tirò fuori, ed ecco la mano era diventata bianca come la neve per la lebbra.
7 “Put your hand back,” he said, “into your bosom.” He put it back and brought it out again, and it was like the rest of his flesh.	7 Gli disse: «Rimetti la mano nel seno». Mise la mano nel seno, la tirò fuori dal seno, ed eccola ritornata come la propria carne.
8 “If they will not believe you,” he said, “and will not listen to the sermon of the first sign, then they will believe the word of the subsequent sign.	8 «Qualora non ti credano né ascoltino la voce del primo segno, crederanno alla voce del secondo segno.
9 But if they will not believe even these two signs, and they will not listen to your voice: take from the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land, and whatever you will have drawn from the river will be turned into blood.”	9 Se non crederanno neppure secondo di questi segni e non ascolteranno la tua voce, allora prenderai acqua del fiume e la verserai sulla terra secca: l’acqua, che avrai preso dal fiume, si cambierà in sangue sulla terra secca».
10 Moses said: “I beg you, O Lord, I was not eloquent yesterday or the day before. And from the time that you have spoken to your servant, I have a greater impediment and slowness of tongue.”	10 Disse Mosè a Jahvè: «Perdonami, Signore! Finora io non sono mai stato un uomo eloquente; così è anche dopo che hai rivolto la tua parola al tuo servitore. Io, infatti, sono impacciato di bocca e di lingua».
11 The Lord said to him: “Who made the mouth of man? And who has formed the mute and the deaf, the seeing and the blind? Was it not I?	11 Dio gli rispose: Chi ha dotato l'uomo della bocca? Chi rende muto o sordo, veggente o cieco? Non sono forse io, Jahvè?
12 Go on, therefore, and I will be in your mouth. And I will teach you what you shall say.”	12 Va’, dunque; io sarò con la tua bocca e ti insegnerò quanto dovrai dire».
13 But he said, “I beg you, O Lord, send whomever else you would send.”	13 Mosè disse: «Perdonami, Signore! Manda chi vuoi».
14 The Lord, being angry at Moses, said: “Aaron the Levite is your brother. I know that he is eloquent. Behold, he is going out to meet you, and seeing you, he will rejoice in heart.	14 Jahvè allora si irritò contro Mosè: «Forse non c’è Aronne tuo fratello, il Levita? So che egli è un buon parlatore. Anzi, ecco è uscito per venirti incontro. Nel vederti, il suo cuore si rallegrerà.
15 Speak to him, and put my words in his mouth. And I will be in your mouth and in his mouth, and I will reveal to you what you must do.	15 Tu gli parlerai, porrai sulla sua bocca le tue parole. Io sarò con la tua bocca e con la sua bocca e vi insegnerò quanto dovrete fare.
16 He will speak for you to the people, and he will be your mouth. But you will be with him in those things that pertain to God.	16 Egli parlerà per te al popolo, così che sarà come la tua bocca e tu sarai come il suo dio.
17 Also, take this staff into your hand; with it you will accomplish the signs.”	17 Prendi in mano questo bastone; con esso compirai i prodigi!»,
18 Moses went forth, and he returned to Jethro, his father in law, and he said to him, “I shall go and return to my brothers in Egypt, so that I may see if they are still alive.” And Jethro said to him, “Go in peace.”	18 Mosè allora partì e, ritornato da Jetro suo suocero, gli disse: «Ho intenzione di andarmene e di ritornare presso i miei fratelli in Egitto per vedere se sono ancora vivi». Jetro rispose a Mosè: «Va in pace».
19 And so the Lord said to Moses in Midian: “Go, and return to Egypt. For all those who sought your life have died.”	19 Jahvè disse a Mosè in Madian: «Va’, ritorna in Egitto, poiché sono morti tutti gli uomini che cercavano la tua vita».
20 Therefore, Moses took his wife and his sons, and he placed them upon a donkey, and he returned into Egypt, carrying the staff of God in his hand.	20 Mosè prese quindi la moglie e i figli, li fece montare sull’asino e si pose in cammino verso la terra d’Egitto. Mosè Prese pure in mano il bastone di Dio.
21 And the Lord said to him, as he was returning to Egypt: “See that you accomplish, in the sight of Pharaoh, all the wonders that I have placed in your hand. I will harden his heart, and he will not release the people.	21 Jahvè disse a Mosè: «Mentre cammini per ritornare in Egitto, considera tutte le meraviglie che io ho posto in tuo potere affinché tu le compia davanti al Faraone. Io però renderò ostinato il suo cuore in modo che egli non lasci andare il popolo.
22 And you shall say to him: ‘Thus says the Lord: Israel is my firstborn son.	22 Riferirai al Faraone: “Così dice Jahvè: Israele è il mio figlio Primogenito.
23 I have said to you: Release my son, so that he may serve me. And you were not willing to release him. Behold, I will put to death your firstborn son.’ ”	23 Io ti ordino: lascia andare mio figlio affinché mi renda un culto, se tu rifiuti di lasciarlo andare, ecco, io uccido il tuo figlio Primogenito”».
24 And while he was on the journey, at an inn, the Lord met him, and he was willing to kill him.	24 Allora, mentre Mosè era in cammino, Jahvè gli si fece innanzi, lo aggredì nel luogo dove passava la notte e cercò di farlo morire.
25 For this reason, Zipporah took a very sharp stone, and she circumcised the foreskin of her son, and she touched his feet, and she said, “You are a bloody spouse to me.”	25 Allora Zippora, presa una selce, tagliò il prepuzio di suo figlio e toccò i piedi di Mosè dicendo: «Tu sei sposo di sangue per me».
26 And he released him, after she had said, “You are a bloody spouse,” because of the circumcision.	26 E Jahvè lo lasciò. Essa aveva detto «sposo di sangue» a causa della circoncisione.
27 Then the Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the desert to meet Moses.” And he went directly to meet him on the mountain of God, and he kissed him.	27 Jahvè disse ad Aronne: «Va’ nel deserto, incontro a Mosè». Quegli andò, lo incontrò al monte di Dio e lo abbracciò.
28 And Moses explained to Aaron all the words of the Lord, by which he had sent him, and the signs which he had commanded.	28 Mosè comunicò ad Aronne tutte le cose di cui Jahvè lo aveva incaricato e tutti i segni che gli aveva ordinato di compiere.
29 And they arrived at the same time, and they gathered together all the elders of the sons of Israel.	29 Mosè e Aronne andarono, radunarono tutti gli anziani dei figli di Israele;
30 And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had said to Moses. And he accomplished the signs in the sight of the people,	30 Aronne comunicò tutte le cose che Jahvè aveva detto a Mosè e fece i segni alla presenza del popolo.
31 and the people believed. And they heard that the Lord had visited the sons of Israel, and that he had looked with favor upon their affliction. And falling prostrate, they worshiped.	31 Il popolo ne fu convinto e si rallegrò al sentire che Jahvè aveva visitato i figli di Israele e considerato la loro miseria. Si inginocchiò e si prostrò a terra.
