Then David took counsel with the tribunes, and the centurions, and all the leaders.1 After David had taken counsel with his commanders of thousands and of hundreds, that is to say, with every one of his leaders,
And he said to the entire assembly of Israel: “If it pleases you, and if the words that I speak come from the Lord our God, let us send to the remainder of our brothers, in all the regions of Israel, and to the priests and Levites who live in the suburbs of the cities, so that they may gather to us.2 he said to the whole assembly of Israel: "If it seems good to you, and is so decreed by the LORD our God, let us summon the rest of our brethren from all the districts of Israel, and also the priests and the Levites from their cities with pasture lands, that they may join us;
And let us bring back the ark of our God to us. For we did not seek it during the days of Saul.”3 and let us bring the ark of our God here among us, for in the days of Saul we did not visit it."
And the entire multitude responded that it should be done. For the word had pleased all the people.4 And the whole assembly agreed to do this, for the idea was pleasing to all the people.
Therefore, David gathered all of Israel, from Shihor of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, so as to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.5 Then David assembled all Israel, from Shihor of Egypt to Labo of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.
And David ascended with all the men of Israel to the hill of Kiriath-jearim, which is in Judah, so that he might bring from there the ark of the Lord God, sitting upon the Cherubim, where his name is invoked.6 David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, of Judah, to bring back the ark of God, which was known by the name "LORD enthroned upon the cherubim."
And they placed the ark of God upon a new cart from the house of Abinadab. Then Uzzah and his brother drove the cart.7 They transported the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab; Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart,
Now David and all of Israel were playing before God, with all of their ability, in songs, and with harps, and psalteries, and timbrels, and cymbals, and trumpets.8 while David and all Israel danced before God with great enthusiasm, amid songs and music on lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.
And when they had arrived at the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah reached out his hand, so that he might support the ark. For indeed, the ox being wanton had caused it to incline a little.9 As they reached the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzzah stretched out his hand to steady the ark, for the oxen were upsetting it.
And so the Lord became angry against Uzzah. And he struck him down because he had touched the ark. And he died there before the Lord.10 Then the LORD became angry with Uzzah and struck him; he died there in God's presence, because he had laid his hand on the ark.
And David was greatly saddened because the Lord had divided Uzzah. And he called that place ‘the Division of Uzzah,’ even to the present day.11 David was disturbed because the LORD'S anger had broken out against Uzzah. Therefore that place has been called Perez-uzza even to this day.
And then he feared God, at that time, saying: “How will I be able to bring in the ark of God to myself?”12 David was now afraid of God, and he said, "How can I bring the ark of God with me?"
And for this reason, he did not bring it to himself, that is, into the City of David. Instead, he turned aside to the house of Obededom, the Gittite.13 Therefore he did not take the ark back with him to the City of David, but he took it instead to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
Therefore, the ark of God dwelt in the house of Obededom for three months. And the Lord blessed his house and all that he had.14 The ark of God remained in the house of Obed-edom with his family for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom's household and all that he possessed.
