1 Now Joab, the son of Zeruiah, understood that the heart of the king had been turned toward Absalom,	1 Joab, der Sohn Zerujas, erkannte, daß des Königs Herz sich Absalom wieder zuwandte.
2 so he sent to Tekoa, and he brought from there a wise woman. And he said to her: “Feign that you are in mourning, and put on the clothing of one who mourns. And do not anoint yourself with oil, so that you may be like a woman who is still grieving for someone who died some time ago.	2 Joab sandte nach Tekoa und ließ von dort eine kluge Frau kommen. Er sprach zu ihr: "Täusche Trauer vor, ziehe Trauerkleider an, salbe dich nicht mit Öl und benimm dich wie eine Frau, die sich schon seit langem um einen Toten grämt!
3 And you shall enter to the king, and you shall speak words to him in this manner.” Then Joab put the words in her mouth.	3 Dann gehe zum König und sprich mit ihm so und so!" Joab legte ihr, was sie reden sollte, in den Mund.
4 And so, when the woman of Tekoa had entered to the king, she fell before him on the ground, and she reverenced, and she said, “Save me, O king.”	4 Die Frau aus Tekoa kam zum König, warf sich auf ihr Antlitz nieder, huldigte ihm und sprach: "Hilf mir, o König!"
5 And the king said to her, “What problem do you have?” And she responded: “Alas, I am a woman who is a widow. For my husband has died.	5 Der König fragte sie: "Was ist dir?" Sie antwortete: "O weh, ich bin eine Witwe, mein Mann starb.
6 And your handmaid had two sons. And they quarreled against one another in the field. And there was no one there who would be able to stop them. And one struck the other, and killed him.	6 Deine Magd hatte zwei Söhne. Beide gerieten auf dem Feld in Streit. Niemand war da, der sie getrennt hätte, so daß der eine den anderen niederschlug und tötete.
7 And behold, the whole family, rising up against your handmaid, said: ‘Deliver him who struck down his brother, so that we may kill him for the life of his brother, whom he killed, and so that we may do away with the heir.’ And they are seeking to extinguish my spark that is left, so that there may not survive a name for my husband, nor a remnant upon the earth.”	7 Da trat die ganze Sippe gegen deine Magd auf und verlangte: "Gib den Brudermörder heraus, wir wollen ihn töten für das Leben seines Bruders, den er ermordet hat, und auch den Erben ausrotten!" So wollen sie den Funken, der mir noch übrig ist, auslöschen, so daß meinem Mann weder Name noch Nachkomme auf dem Erdboden bleibt."
8 And the king said to the woman, “Go to your own house, and I will make a decree on your behalf.”	8 Der König erwiderte: "Gehe heim! Ich werde in deinem Sinne Befehle erteilen."
9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king: “May the iniquity be upon me, my lord, and upon the house of my father. But may the king and his throne be innocent.”	9 Die Frau aus Tekoa antwortete dem König: "Auf mir, mein Herr und König, wird aber die Schuld lasten bleiben und auch auf meiner Familie, während der König und sein Thron keine Verantwortung haben."
10 And the king said, “Whoever will contradict you, bring him to me, and he will never touch you again.”	10 Der König entschied: "Redet jemand wider dich, so bringe ihn her zu mir! Er wird dich dann nicht mehr belästigen."
11 And she said, “Let the king remember the Lord his God, so that close blood relatives may not be multiplied in order to take revenge, and so that they may by no means kill my son.” And he said, “As the Lord lives, not one hair from your son shall fall to the ground.”	11 Sie sprach: "Möge der König doch den Herrn, deinen Gott, eidlich anrufen, daß der Bluträcher nicht noch mehr Unheil anrichten und daß man meinen Sohn nicht ausrotten darf!" Er antwortete: "So wahr der Herr lebt, auf keinen Fall soll auch nur ein Haar deines Sohnes zu Boden fallen!"
12 Then the woman said, “Let your handmaid speak a word to my lord the king.” And he said, “Speak.”	12 Die Frau fuhr fort: "Dürfte deine Magd zu meinem Gebieter, dem König, ein Wort reden?" Er erwiderte: "Sprich!"
13 And the woman said: “Why have you thought such a thing against the people of God, and why has the king spoken this word, so that he sins and does not lead back the one whom he rejected?	13 Die Frau begann zu reden: "Warum sinnst du denn ganz so Ähnliches gegen das Volk Gottes? Dadurch, daß der König ein solches Urteil ausspricht, erklärt er sich selbst schuldig, wenn er seinen Verstoßenen nicht zurückholt.
14 We are all dying, and we are all like waters that flow into the ground and do not return. God does not will to lose a soul. Instead, he renews his efforts, thinking that what has been rejected might not perish altogether.	14 Wir müssen alle sterben. Dem Wasser gleichen wir, das zur Erde gegossen wird und nicht gesammelt werden kann. Gott aber rafft kein Leben hinweg, sondern es ist sein Wunsch, daß ein Verstoßener nicht von ihm verstoßen bleibe.
15 Therefore, now I have come to speak this word to my lord the king, in the presence of the people. And your handmaid said: I will speak to the king, for perhaps there may be some way for the king to accomplish the word of his handmaid.	15 Jedoch, daß ich gekommen bin, um mit meinem Herrn und König über jenes Anliegen zu reden, liegt darin begründet, daß die Leute mich ängstigten. Deine Magd sagte sich: Ich will mit dem König reden. Vielleicht handelt der König nach der Bitte seiner Magd.
16 And the king listened, and he freed his handmaid from the hand of all who were willing to take away me and my son together, from the inheritance of God.	16 Denn der König wird mir Gehör schenken und seine Magd aus der Hand des Mannes befreien, der danach trachtet, mich und meinen Sohn zugleich aus dem Erbe Gottes auszurotten.
17 Therefore, let your handmaid speak, so that the word of my lord the king may be like a sacrifice. For even like an Angel of God, so is my lord the king, so that he is moved by neither a blessing, nor a curse. Then too, the Lord your God is with you.”	17 Deine Magd dachte sich: Das Wort meines Herrn und Königs wird mir zur Beruhigung dienen; denn mein Herr und König ist wie der Engel Gottes, der Gutes und Böses zu beurteilen weiß. Der Herr, dein Gott, sei mit dir!"
18 And in response, the king said to the woman, “You shall not conceal from me a word of what I ask you.” And the woman said to him, “Speak, my lord the king.”	18 Nun begann der König und sprach: "Verheimliche mir nichts, um was ich dich frage!" Die Frau erwiderte: "Mein Herr und König rede!"
19 And the king said, “Is not the hand of Joab with you in all this?” And the woman answered and said: “By the welfare of your soul, my lord the king, it is neither to the left, nor to the right, in all these things that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab himself instructed me, and he himself placed all these words in the mouth of your handmaid.	19 Der König fragte: "Hat bei all dem Joab seine Hand im Spiel?" Die Frau antwortete und sprach: "So wahr du lebst, mein Herr und König, es ist unmöglich, bei all dem, was mein Herr und König fragt, nach rechts oder links auszuweichen! Ja, dein Knecht Joab war es, der mir den Auftrag gegeben, und er hat deiner Magd alle jene Worte in den Mund gelegt.
20 Thus did I turn to this figure of speech, because your servant Joab instructed it. But you, my lord the king, are wise, just as an Angel of God has wisdom, so that you understand all that is upon the earth.”	20 Um der Sache ein anderes Gesicht zu geben, hat dein Knecht Joab dies getan. Doch mein Herr ist weise wie der Engel Gottes. Er weiß alles, was im Lande geschieht."
21 And the king said to Joab: “Behold, your word has succeeded in appeasing me. Therefore, go and call back the boy Absalom.”	21 Da sprach der König zu Joab: "Höre, ich will diese Bitte erfüllen. Gehe hin und hole den jungen Absalom heim!"
22 And falling to the ground upon his face, Joab reverenced, and he blessed the king. And Joab said: “Today your servant has understood that I have found grace in your sight, my lord the king. For you have accomplished the word of your servant.”	22 Joab warf sich auf sein Angesicht zur Erde nieder, huldigte und wünschte dem König Segen. Joab rief aus: "Heute erkennt dein Knecht, daß ich Huld bei dir, meinem Herrn und König, gefunden habe; denn der König hat den Wunsch seines Knechtes erfüllt."
23 Then Joab rose up, and he went away to Geshur. And he brought Absalom into Jerusalem.	23 Joab machte sich nun auf den Weg nach Geschur und brachte Absalom nach Jerusalem zurück.
24 But the king said, “Let him return to his own house, but let him not see my face.” And so, Absalom returned to his own house, but he did not see the face of the king.	24 Der König befahl: "Mag er sich in sein Haus begeben, mein Antlitz wird er nicht sehen!" Da begab sich Absalom in sein Haus, aber des Königs Antlitz durfte er nicht schauen.
25 Now in all of Israel, there was no man so handsome, and so very stately as Absalom. From the sole of the foot to the top of the head, there was no blemish in him.	25 Einen Mann, der so schön, so rühmenswert war wie Absalom, gab es in ganz Israel nicht wieder. Vom Scheitel bis zur Sohle war kein Fehl an ihm.
26 And when he shaved off his hair, for he shaved it off once a year, because his long hair was burdensome to him, he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, by the public weights.	26 Ließ er sein Haupthaar scheren - er mußte es in bestimmten Zeitabständen scheren lassen, weil es ihm sonst zu beschwerlich wurde -, dann wog es zweihundert Sekel nach königlichem Gewicht.
27 Then three sons were born to Absalom, and one daughter, of elegant form, whose name was Tamar.	27 Dem Absalom wurden drei Söhne und eine Tochter namens Tamar geboren. Diese wurde eine Frau von schönem Aussehen.
28 And Absalom remained for two years in Jerusalem, and he did not see the face of the king.	28 Absalom blieb zwei Jahre in Jerusalem, ohne das Antlitz des Königs zu sehen.
29 And so, he sent to Joab, so that he might send him to the king. But he refused to come to him. And when he had sent a second time, and he had refused to come to him,	29 Daher schickte Absalom nach Joab, um ihn zum König zu senden. Doch dieser wollte nicht zu ihm kommen. Er schickte zum zweitenmal hin; doch er wollte nicht kommen.
30 he said to his servants: “You know that the field of Joab, the one that is near my field, has a harvest of barley. Therefore, go and set it on fire.” And so, the servants of Absalom set fire to the grain field. And the servants of Joab, arriving with their garments torn, said, “The servants of Absalom have set fire to part of the field!”	30 Daher sprach er zu seinen Knechten: "Seht, Joab besitzt ein Ackergelände neben dem meinigen und hat es mit Gerste bestellt. Geht hin und steckt es in Brand!" Absaloms Knechte zündeten das Feld an.
31 And Joab rose up, and he went to Absalom at his house, and he said, “Why have your servants set fire to my grain field?”	31 Da machte sich Joab auf den Weg zu Absalom, ging in sein Haus und warf ihm vor: "Warum haben deine Knechte meinen Acker verbrannt?"
32 And Absalom responded to Joab: “I sent to you, begging that you might come to me, and that I might send you to the king, and that you might say to him: ‘Why was I brought from Geshur? It would have been better for me to be there.’ I beg you, therefore, that I may see the face of the king. And if he is mindful of my iniquity, let him put me to death.”	32 Absalom entgegnete ihm: "Nun, ich habe zu dir gesandt und ließ sagen: "Komm her, ich will dich zum König senden mit der Frage: Warum bin ich eigentlich aus Geschur zurückgekommen? Es wäre für mich ja besser, wenn ich noch dort wäre." Jetzt will ich vor dem König erscheinen! Lastet eine Schuld auf mir, so mag er mich töten."
33 And so, Joab, entering to the king, reported everything to him. And Absalom was summoned. And he entered to the king, and he reverenced on the face of the earth. And the king kissed Absalom.	33 Joab ging zum König und trug es ihm vor. Er ließ Absalom rufen. Dieser kam zum König und huldigte ihm, das Antlitz vor dem König zur Erde geneigt. Der König küßte Absalom.
