Genesis 3

1 However, the serpent was more crafty than any of the creatures of the earth that the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Why has God instructed you, that you should not eat from every tree of Paradise?”	1 З усіх же польових звірів, що їх сотворив Господь Бог, найхитріший був змій. Він і сказав до жінки: «Чи справді Господь Бог велів вам не їсти ні з якого дерева, що в саді?»
2 The woman responded to him: “From the fruit of the trees which are in Paradise, we eat.	2 Жінка відповіла змієві: «Нам дозволено їсти плоди з дерев, що в саді.
3 Yet truly, from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of Paradise, God has instructed us that we should not eat, and that we should not touch it, lest perhaps we may die.”	3 Тільки плід з дерева, що посеред саду, Бог наказав нам: не їжте його, ані не доторкайтесь, а то помрете».
4 Then the serpent said to the woman: “By no means will you die a death.	4 І сказав змій до жінки: «Ні, напевно не помрете!»
5 For God knows that, on whatever day you will eat from it, your eyes will be opened; and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.”	5 Бо знає Бог, що коли скуштуєте його, то відкриються у вас очі, і ви станете, як Бог, що знає добро й зло.
6 And so the woman saw that the tree was good to eat, and beautiful to the eyes, and delightful to consider. And she took from its fruit, and she ate. And she gave to her husband, who ate.	6 Тож побачила жінка, що дерево було добре для поживи й гарне для очей і приманювало, щоб усе знати; і взяла з нього плід та й скуштувала й дала чоловікові, що був з нею, і він теж скуштував.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened. And when they realized themselves to be naked, they joined together fig leaves and made coverings for themselves.	7 Тоді відкрилися їм обом очі, й вони пізнали, що вони нагі; тим то позшивали смоківне листя і поробили собі пояси.
8 And when they had heard the voice of the Lord God taking a walk in Paradise in the afternoon breeze, Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of Paradise.	8 Але почули вони луну від Господа Бога, що ходив собі садом під час денної прохолоди, і сховався чоловік із своєю жінкою від Господа Бога серед дерев саду.
9 And the Lord God called Adam and said to him: “Where are you?”	9 Тоді Господь Бог покликав чоловіка і спитав його: «Де ти?»
10 And he said, “I heard your voice in Paradise, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and so I hid myself.”	10 Той відповів: «Я чув твою луну у саді й злякався, бо я нагий, тож і сховався».
11 He said to him, “Then who told you that you were naked, if you have not eaten of the tree from which I instructed you that you should not eat?”	11 Він же сказав: «Хто тобі сказав, що ти нагий? Чи не їв ти з дерева, що я наказав тобі не їсти?»
12 And Adam said, “The woman, whom you gave to me as a companion, gave to me from the tree, and I ate.”	12 Чоловік відповів: «Жінка, яку ти дав мені, щоб була зо мною, дала мені з дерева, і я їв».
13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “Why have you done this?” And she responded, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”	13 Тоді Господь Бог сказав до жінки: «Що ти це наробила?» Жінка відповіла: «Змій обманув мене, і я їла».
14 And the Lord God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed among all living things, even the wild beasts of the earth. Upon your breast shall you travel, and the ground shall you eat, all the days of your life.	14 Отож Господь Бог сказав до змія: «За те, що ти вчинив це, будь проклятий з-поміж усякої скотини та з-поміж усіх диких звірів. На череві твоїм будеш повзати і їстимеш землю по всі дні життя твого.
15 I will put enmities between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. She will crush your head, and you will lie in wait for her heel.”	15 Я покладу ворожнечу між тобою і жінкою, і між твоїм потомством та її потомством. Воно розчавить тобі голову, а ти будеш намагатися ввіп’ястися йому в п’яту».
16 To the woman, he also said: “I will multiply your labors and your conceptions. In pain shall you give birth to sons, and you shall be under your husband’s power, and he shall have dominion over you.”	16 А жінці сказав: «Помножу вельми болі твої і твою вагітність, в болях будеш народжувати дітей. І тягти буде тебе до твого чоловіка, а він буде панувати над тобою».
17 Yet truly, to Adam, he said: “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, from which I instructed you that you should not eat, cursed is the land that you work. In hardship shall you eat from it, all the days of your life.	17 Адамові ж сказав: «За те, що ти послухав голос твоєї жінки і їв з дерева, з якого я наказав тобі не їсти, проклята земля через тебе. В тяжкім труді живитимешся з неї по всі дні життя твого.
18 Thorns and thistles shall it produce for you, and you shall eat the plants of the earth.	18 Терня й будяки буде вона тобі родити, і їстимеш польові рослини.
19 By the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, until you return to the earth from which you were taken. For dust you are, and unto dust you shall return.”	19 В поті лиця твого їстимеш хліб твій, доки не вернешся в землю, що з неї тебе взято; бо ти є порох і вернешся в порох».
20 And Adam called the name of his wife, ‘Eve,’ because she was the mother of all the living.	20 Тоді Адам дав своїй жінці ім’я Єва, бо вона була мати всіх живих.
21 The Lord God also made for Adam and his wife garments from skins, and he clothed them.	21 Та й зробив Господь Бог Адамові та його жінці одежу з шкури і одягнув їх.
22 And he said: “Behold, Adam has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Therefore, now perhaps he may put forth his hand and also take from the tree of life, and eat, and live in eternity.”	22 І сказав Господь Бог: «Оце чоловік став, як один з нас, знаючи добро і зло. Тож тепер, аби лишень він не простяг своєї руки й не взяв ще й з дерева життя, а з’ївши, не став жити повіки!»
23 And so the Lord God sent him away from the Paradise of enjoyment, in order to work the earth from which he was taken.	23 Тому вислав його Господь Бог з Едемського саду порати землю, що з неї був він узятий.
24 And he cast out Adam. And in front of the Paradise of enjoyment, he placed the Cherubim with a flaming sword, turning together, to guard the way to the tree of life.	24 І вигнав він Адама й поставив від сходу до Едемського саду херувима з полум’яним миготливим мечем, щоб стерегти дорогу до дерева життя.
