Deuteronomy 29

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Moses called all Israel together and said to them: 'You have seen everything that Yahweh did beforeyour eyes in Egypt, to Pharaoh, to his servants and to his whole country-	1 Moisés convocó a todo Israel y les dijo: Vosotros visteis todo lo que Yahveh hizo a vuestros propios ojos en Egipto con Faraón, sus siervos y todo su país:
2 the great ordeals which you yourselves witnessed, those signs and the great wonders.	2 las grandes pruebas que tus mismos ojos vieron, aquellas señales, aquellos grandes prodigios.
3 But until today Yahweh has not given you a heart to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.	3 Pero hasta el día de hoy no os había dado Yahveh corazón para entender, ojos para ver, ni oídos para oír.
4 'I have been leading you for forty years in the desert, yet the clothes which you have been wearinghave not worn out, nor have the sandals on your feet.	4 Durante cuarento años os he hecho caminar por el desierto, sin que se hayan gastado los vestidos sobre vosotros ni las sandalias en tus pies.
5 You have had no bread to eat, you have had no wine or fermented liquor to drink, so that you wouldlearn that I, Yahweh, am your God.	5 No habéis tenido pan que comer, ni vino o licor fermentado que beber, para que supierais que yo, Yahveh, soy vuestro Dios.
6 'When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out to do battleagainst us; we defeated them.	6 Luego llegasteis a este lugar. Sijón, rey de Jesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron a nuestro encuentro para hacernos la guerra, pero los derrotamos.
7 We conquered their country and gave it as heritage to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh.	7 Conquistamos su país, y se lo dimos en heredad a Rubén, a Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés.
8 'Keep the words of this covenant, put them into practice, and you wil thrive in everything you do.	8 Guardad, pues, las palabras de esta alianza y ponedlas en práctica, para que tengáis éxito en todas vuestras empresas.
9 'Al of you are standing here today in the presence of Yahweh your God: your tribal leaders, yourelders, your scribes, al the men of Israel,	9 Aqui estáis hoy todos vosotros en presencia de Yahveh vuestro Dios: vuestros jefes de tribu, vuestros ancianos y vuestros escribas, todos los hombres de Israel,
10 with your children and your wives (and the foreigner too who is in your camp, be he your wood-cutteror your water-carrier),	10 con vuestros hijos y vuestras mujeres (y también el forastero que está en tu campamento, desde tu leñador hasta tu aguador),
11 and you are about to pass into the covenant of Yahweh your God, sworn with imprecation, which hehas made with you today,	11 a punto de entrar en la alianza de Yahveh tu Dios, jurada con imprecación, que Yahveh tu Dios concluye hoy contigo
12 and by which, today, he makes you a nation for himself and he himself becomes a God to you, as hehas promised you, and as he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.	12 para hacer hoy de ti su pueblo y ser él tu Dios como te ha dicho y como juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.
13 Not only on your behalf am I today making this covenant and pronouncing this solemn curse,	13 Y no solamente con vosotros hago yo hoy esta alianza y esta imprecación,
14 not only on behalf of those standing here with us in the presence of Yahweh our God today, but alsoon behalf of those not here with us today.	14 sino que la hago tanto con quien está hoy aquí con nosotros en presencia de Yahveh nuestro Dios como con quien no está hoy aquí con nosotros.
15 'Yes, you know the people with whom we used to live in Egypt, and those through whose countrieswe have travel ed -- the nations through whom we have passed.	15 Pues vosotros sabéis cómo vivíamos en Egipto, y cómo hemos pasado por las naciones por las que habéis pasado.
16 You have seen their abominations and their idols made of wood and stone, silver and gold, whichwere there.	16 Habéis visto sus monstruos abominables y los ídolos de madera y de piedra, de plata y de oro que hay entre ellos.
17 'Let there be no man or woman of you, no clan or tribe, whose heart turns away from Yahweh yourGod today, to go and serve the gods of these nations. Among you let there be no root which bears poison orwormwood.	17 No haya entre vosotros hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aparte hoy de Yahveh vuestro Dios para ir a servir a los dioses de esas naciones. No haya entre vosotros raíz que eche veneno o ajenjo.
18 If, after hearing this imprecation, anyone, blessing himself, should say in his heart, "I shall do wellenough if I fol ow the dictates of my heart; much water drives away thirst,"	18 Si alguien, después de haber oído las palabras de esta imprecación, se las promete felices en su corazón diciendo: «Aunque me conduzca en la terquedad de mi corazón, todo me irá bien, puesto que la abundancia de agua quitará la sed»,
19 Yahweh wil not pardon him. The wrath and jealousy of Yahweh wil blaze against such a person;every curse written in this book wil fal on him, and Yahweh will blot his name out under heaven.	19 Yahveh no se avendrá a perdonarle. Porque la ira y el celo de Yahveh se encenderán contra ese hombre, toda la imprecación escrita en este libro caerá sobre él, y Yahveh borrará su nombre de debajo de los cielos.
20 Yahweh wil single him out of al the tribes of Israel for misfortune, in accordance with al the cursesof the covenant written in the book of this Law.	20 Yahveh le separará de todas las tribus de Israel, para su desgracia, conforme a todas las imprecaciones de la alianza escrita en el libro de esta Ley.
21 'The future generation, that of your children coming after you, and the foreigner arriving from somefar-away land, on seeing the plagues and diseases inflicted on this country by Yahweh, wil exclaim,	21 La generación futura, vuestros hijos que vendrán después de vosotros, así como el extranjero llegado de un país lejano, verán las plagas de esta tierra y las enfermedades con que Yahveh la castigará, y exclamarán:
22 "Sulphur! Salt!-The whole country is burning! No one wil sow, nothing grow, no vegetation springever again! Devastation like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboi m, devastated by Yahweh in hisfurious wrath!"	22 «Azufre, sal, calcinación es su tierra entera; no se sembrará ni germinará ni hierba alguna crecerá en ella, como en la catástrofe de Sodoma y Gomorra, Admá y Seboyím, que Yahveh asoló en su ira y su furor».
23 And al the nations wil exclaim, "Why has Yahweh treated this country like this? Why this great blazeof anger?"	23 Y todas las naciones preguntarán: «¿Por qué ha tratado así Yahveh a esta tierra? ¿Por qué el ardor de tan gran ira?»
24 'And people wil say, "Because they deserted the covenant of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, thecovenant which he made with them when he brought them out of Egypt;	24 Y se dirá: «Porque han abandonado la alianza que Yahveh, Dios de sus padres, había concluido con ellos al sacarlos del país de Egipto;
25 because they went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods hitherto unknown to them,gods that were no part of their heritage from him:	25 porque se han ido a servir a otros dioses y se han postrado ante ellos, dioses que no conocían y que él no les había dado en suerte.
26 this is why Yahweh's anger has blazed against this country, afflicting it with al the curses written inthis book.	26 Por eso se ha encendido la ira de Yahveh contra este país y ha traído sobre él toda la maldición escrita en este libro.
27 In anger, in fury, in fierce wrath, Yahweh has torn them from their own country and flung them intoanother country, where they are today."	27 Yahveh los ha arrancado de su suelo con ira, furor y gran indignación, y los ha arrojado a otro país donde hoy están».
28 Things hidden belong to Yahweh our God, but things revealed are ours and our children's for ever,so that we can put al the words of this Law into practice.'	28 Las cosas secretas pertenecen a Yahveh nuestro Dios, pero las cosas reveladas nos atañen a nosotros y a nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que pongamos en práctica todas las palabras de esta Ley.
