1 This is the text of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to those who were left of theelders in exile, to the priests, the prophets and all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had deported fromJerusalem to Babylon.	1 Queste sono le parole della lettera che inviò il profeta Geremia da Gerusalemme al resto degli anziani deportati, ai sacerdoti, ai profeti e a tutto il popolo che Nabucodònosor aveva deportato da Gerusalemme a Babilonia

3 The letter was entrusted to Elasah son of Shaphan and to Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiahking of Judah had sent to Babylon, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. 5 Build houses, settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce;	5 Costruite case e abitatele; piantate giardini e mangiate i loro frutti;
6 marry and have sons and daughters; choose wives for your sons, find husbands for your daughters sothat these can bear sons and daughters in their turn; you must increase there and not decrease.	6 prendete mogli e generate figli e figlie; prendete mogli per i vostri figli e date le vostre figlie a marito, affinché generiate figli e figlie, affinché vi moltiplichiate lì e non diminuiate!
7 Work for the good of the city to which I have exiled you; pray to Yahweh on its behalf, since on itswelfare yours depends.	7 Cercate la pace della città dove vi ho deportato e pregate per essa il Signore, poiché attraverso il suo benessere verrà anche a voi benessere.
8 For Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Do not be deceived by the prophets who are withyou or by your diviners; do not listen to the dreams you have,	8 Così dice infatti il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Non vi seducano i profeti che sono in mezzo a voi e i vostri indovini; non date retta ai loro sogni,
9 since they prophesy lies to you in my name. I have not sent them, Yahweh declares.	9 poiché essi profetizzano menzogna nel mio nome: non li ho inviati, oracolo del Signore.
10 For Yahweh says this: When the seventy years granted to Babylon are over, I shal intervene on yourbehalf and fulfil my favourable promise to you by bringing you back to this place.	10 Così, infatti, dice il Signore: Soltanto quando saranno compiuti settant'anni per Babilonia io vi visiterò e realizzerò per voi le buone parole, riconducendovi in questo luogo.
11 Yes, I know what plans I have in mind for you, Yahweh declares, plans for peace, not for disaster, togive you a future and a hope.	11 Io, infatti, conosco i piani che sto progettando sul vostro conto, oracolo del Signore: piani di pace e non di sventura, per darvi un futuro pieno di speranza.
12 When you cal to me and come and pray to me, I shal listen to you.	12 Mi invocherete, camminerete dietro di me, mi pregherete e io vi ascolterò;
13 When you search for me, you will find me; when you search wholeheartedly for me,	13 mi cercherete e mi troverete, poiché allora mi consulterete con tutto il vostro cuore.
14 I shal let you find me (Yahweh declares. I shal restore your fortunes and gather you in from al thenations and wherever I have driven you, Yahweh declares. I shal bring you back to the place from which I exiledyou).	14 Io mi farò trovare da voi, oracolo del Signore, e ricondurrò i vostri deportati e vi radunerò di mezzo a tutte le nazioni e da tutti i luoghi dove io vi ho dispersi, oracolo del Signore, e vi farò ritornare al luogo dal quale vi ho fatto deportare.
15 'Since you say: Yahweh has raised up prophets for us in Babylon-	15 Voi direte: "Il Signore ci ha suscitato dei profeti in Babilonia".
16 this is what Yahweh says about the king now occupying the throne of David and all the people living inthis city, your brothers who did not go with you into exile:	16 Ma così dice il Signore al re che siede sul trono di Davide e a tutto il popolo che abita in questa città, i vostri fratelli che non sono stati deportati con voi:
17 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I am now going to send them sword, famine and plague; I shal makethem like rotten figs, so bad as to be uneatable.	17 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ecco che io invio contro di loro la spada, la fame e la peste e li renderò come fichi marci che non si possono mangiare per quanto sono cattivi.
18 I shal pursue them with sword, famine and plague. 20 But al you exiles, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon, listen to Yahweh's word!	20 Ma voi ascoltate la parola del Signore, o deportati tutti, che io ho mandato da Gerusalemme a Babilonia.
21 'This is what Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah, and Zedekiah son ofMaaseiah, who prophesy lies to you in my name: I shal hand them over now to Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon who wil put them to death before your very eyes.	21 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele, ad Acab, figlio di Kolaià, e a Sedecia, figlio di Maasià, che vi profetizzano menzogna nel mio nome: Ecco, io li do in potere di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, e li ucciderà sotto i vostri occhi.
22 This curse, based on their fate, wil be used by al the exiles of Judah in Babylon: May Yahweh treatyou like Zedekiah and Ahab, roasted alive by the king of Babylon,	22 E da essi si trarrà una formula di maledizione che useranno tutti i deportati di Giuda che sono in Babilonia: "Il Signore tratti come Sedecia e come Acab, che il re di Babilonia arrostì con il fuoco!".
23 because they have done a scandalous thing in Israel, committing adultery with their neighbour's wivesand speaking lying words in my name without orders from me. 25 Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Since you, on your own initiative, have sent a letter to allthe people in Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah (and to al the priests), saying:	25 "Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele: Tu hai mandato a tuo nome lettere a tutto il popolo che è in Gerusalemme, al sacerdote Sofonia, figlio di Maasià, e a tutti i sacerdoti dicendo:
26 Yahweh has appointed you priest in place of the priest Jehoiada to keep order in the Temple ofYahweh, to put any crazy fel ow posing as a prophet in the stocks and col ar,	26 "Il Signore ti ha costituito sacerdote al posto del sacerdote Ioiadà per essere sorvegliante nella casa del Signore, contro ogni esaltato che profetizza, affinché lo metta ai ceppi nella gogna.
