Jeremiah 18

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh as fol ows,	1 - Parola che fu comunicata a Geremia dal Signore che disse:
2 'Get up and make your way down to the potter's house, and there I shal tell you what I have to say.'	2 «Sorgi e scendi nella bottega di un vasaio e ivi udirai le mie parole».
3 So I went down to the potter's house; and there he was, working at the wheel.	3 Ed io discesi nella bottega d'un vasaio; ed ecco che stava facendo un lavoro al tornio.
4 But the vessel he was making came out wrong, as may happen with clay when a potter is at work. Sohe began again and shaped it into another vessel, as he thought fit.	4 E il vaso che stava facendo coll'argilla manipolata si guastò e dovette riprendere e lo rifece in una forma diversa, secondo che gli parve e piacque di fare.
5 Then the word of Yahweh came to me as follows,	5 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
6 'House of Israel, can I not do to you what this potter does? Yahweh demands. Yes, like clay in thepotter's hand, so you are in mine, House of Israel.	6 «E non potrò io forse, come questo vasaio operare con voi, casa d'Israele? dice il Signore. Ecco, quale l'argilla in mano d'un vasaio, tali siete voi in mano mia, casa di Israele.
7 Sometimes I announce that I shal uproot, break down and destroy a certain nation or kingdom,	7 Io posso a un tratto dire una parola contro una nazione e contro un regno per sradicarli, rovesciarli e disperderli.
8 but should the nation I have threatened abandon its wickedness, I then change my mind about thedisaster which I had intended to inflict on it.	8 Ma se quella nazione si sarà pentita del suo malfatto, per cui ho pronunziato la mia parola contro di essa, anch'io mi ripentirò del male che aveva divisato di farle.
9 Sometimes I announce that I shal build up and plant a certain nation or kingdom,	9 E posso a un tratto dire una parola sopra una nazione e sopra un regno per edificarlo e per stabilirlo.
10 but should that nation do what displeases me and refuse to listen to my voice, I then change my mindabout the good which I was intending to confer on it.	10 Ma se quella nazione avrà fatto ciò che è male agli occhi miei, non volendo ascoltare la mia voce, io mi pentirò del bene che aveva detto di farle.
11 So now, say this to the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, "Yahweh says this: Listen, Iam preparing a disaster for you, I am working out a plan against you. So now, each one of you, turn back fromyour evil ways, amend your conduct and actions."	11 Ora dunque dirai alla gente di Giuda e agli abitanti di Gerusalemme:- Così dice il Signore: "Ecco che io formo contro di voi il male e medito contro di voi un disegno; si ritragga dunque ciascuno dalla sua mala via, emendate la vostra condotta e i vostri costumi" -».
12 They, however, wil say, "It is no use! We shal follow our own plans; each of us wil act on his ownwicked inclinations." '	12 Ma essi dissero: «È vano sperare, perchè continueremo ad andare dietro ai nostri intenti, ed a seconda della depravazione del cuore malvagio di ciascuno di noi opereremo».
13 Therefore, Yahweh says this, 'Ask, please, among the nations if anyone has heard anything like this.The Virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.	13 Perciò così dice il Signore: «Interrogate le genti: chi ha mai udito cose orribili come queste che ha fatto la vergine d'Israele?
14 Does the snow of Lebanon ever leave the rocks of its slopes? Do the rivers of foreign lands, their coldflowing waters, ever run dry?	14 Potrà mai mancare la neve del Libano dalle rocce sovrastanti la campagnae si potranno svellere le scaturigini delle acque fresche e zampillanti
15 And yet my people have forgotten me! They burn incense to a Nothing! They have been made tostumble in their ways, the ancient paths, to walk in paths, on an unmade road,	15 Ma il mio popolo si è scordato di me facendo libazioni invano, inciampando nelle loro strade, nei sentieri calcati da secoli, per voler camminare per dove non c'è la via battuta,
16 to make their country an object of horror, everlastingly derided: every passer-by will be appal ed at itand shake his head.	16 per far sì che la loro terra sia data alla desolazione e alla derisione per sempre; chiunque passerà per essa resterà stupefatto e scoterà il capo.
17 Like the east wind, I shal scatter them before the enemy. I shal show them my back, not my face, theday they are ruined.'	17 Li manderò dispersi davanti al nemico come farebbe il vento sciroccale, volgerò loro le spalle e non la faccia nel giorno della loro perdizione».
18 'Come on,' they said, 'let us concoct a plot against Jeremiah, for the Law will not perish for lack ofpriests, nor advice for lack of wise men, nor the word for lack of prophets. Come on, let us slander him and payno attention to anything he says.'	18 E dissero: «Venite ed escogitiamo tranelli contro Geremia, perchè non può la legge mancare al sacerdote, nè il consiglio al sapiente, nè la parola al profeta; venite, colpiamolo con la lingua e non badiamo a tutte le sue parole».
19 Pay attention to me, Yahweh, hear what my adversaries are saying.	19 O Signore, bada tu a me e non udire la voce dei miei avversari!
20 Should evil be returned for good? Now they are digging a pit for me. Remember how I pleaded beforeyou and spoke good of them, to turn your retribution away from them.	20 Così dunque rendesi male per bene, che costoro a me hanno scavato la fossa? Ricorda ch'io mi son presentato al tuo cospetto per parlarti in lor favore e stornare da loro la tua indignazione.
21 So, hand their sons over to famine, abandon them to the edge of the sword. Let their wives becomechildless and widowed. Let their husbands die of plague, their young men be cut down by the sword in battle.	21 Perciò dà i loro figli in preda alla fame e travolgili in balìa della spada; le loro mogli restino senza figli e vedove, i loro mariti siano messi a morte, i loro giovani cadano trafitti dalla spada in battaglia.
22 Let cries re-echo from their houses as you bring raiders suddenly on them. For they have dug a pit tocatch me, they have laid snares to trap my feet.	22 Risuonino dalle loro case le strida, perchè manderai sopra di loro improvvisamente il predone; giacchè hanno scavato la fossa per pigliarmi, e hanno teso nascostamente tranelli ai miei piedi.
23 But you, Yahweh, know all about their murderous plot against me. Do not forgive their guilt, do notefface their sin from your sight. Let them be hurled down before you, deal with them while you are angry!	23 Ma tu, Signore, conosci ogni loro consiglio di morte contro di me; non mandare impunita la loro colpa, e il loro peccato dinanzi a te non si cancelli; soccombano al tuo cospetto e nel tempo del tuo furore distruggili!
