1 The Philistines, having captured the ark of God, transferred it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.	1 Os Filisteus, pois, tomaram a arca de Deus e levaram-na da Pedra do socorro para Azoto.
2 They then took the ark of God and brought it into the temple of Dagon, placing it beside Dagon.	2 Os Filisteus tomaram a arca de Deus, meteram-na no templo de Dagon e colocaram-na junto de Dagon.
3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next morning, Dagon was lying prone on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they picked Dagon up and replaced him.	3 No dia seguinte, tendo-se levantado ao amanhecer os de Azoto, viram que Dagon jazia com o rosto por terra diante da arca do Senhor. Tomaram Dagon e repuseram-no no seu lugar.
4 But the next morning early, when they arose, Dagon lay prone on the ground before the ark of the LORD, his head and hands broken off and lying on the threshold, his trunk alone intact.	4 Porém, no outro dia, tendo-se levantado novamente de manhã, encontraram Dagon que jazia de bruços diante da arca do Senhor; a cabeça de Dagon e as duas mãos estavam cortadas sobre o limiar da porta.
5 For this reason, neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter the temple of Dagon tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this very day; they always step over it.	5 Só o tronco de Dagon tinha ficado no seu lugar. Por este motivo, até ao dia de hoje, os sacerdotes de Dagon e todos os que entram no seu templo, não calcam o limiar (da porta) de Dagon em Azoto.
6 Now the LORD dealt severely with the people of Ashdod. He ravaged and afflicted the city and its vicinity with hemorrhoids; he brought upon the city a great and deadly plague of mice that swarmed in their ships and overran their fields.	6 A mão do Senhor carregou pesadamente sobre os de Azoto e desolou-os; castigou, com tumores, tanto os da cidade como os do seu território.
7 On seeing how matters stood, the men of Ashdod decided, "The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for he is handling us and our god Dagon severely."	7 Os de Azoto, vendo esta praga, disseram: Não fique conosco a arca do Deus de Israel, porque a sua mão carrega duramente sobre nós e sobre Dagon, nosso Deus.
8 So they summoned all the Philistine lords and inquired of them, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" The men of Gath replied, "Let them move the ark of the God of Israel on to us."	8 E, mandando gente, convocaram todos os príncipes dos Filisteus e disseram: Que faremos nós da arca do Deus de Israel? Os de Get responderam: Leve-se a arca do Deus de Israel de cidade em cidade. E levaram a arca do Deus de Israel de cidade em cidade.
9 So they moved the ark of the God of Israel to Gath! But after it had been brought there, the LORD threw the city into utter turmoil: he afflicted its inhabitants, young and old, and hemorrhoids broke out on them.	9 Levando-a eles de cidade em cidade, a mão do Senhor fazia grande mortandade em cada cidade; castigava, desde o menor ao maior, os homens de cada cidade, fazendo-lhes aparecer tumores. E os de Get consultaram entre si, e fizeram para seu uso assentos de peles.
10 The ark of God was next sent to Ekron; but as it entered that city, the people there cried out, "Why have they brought the ark of the God of Israel here to kill us and our kindred?"	10 Mandaram então a arca de Deus para Acaron. Chegando a arca de Deus a Acaron, os Acaronitas clamaram, dizendo: Trouxeram-nos a arca do Deus de Israel, para ela nos matar a nós e ao nosso povo.
11 Then they, too, sent a summons to all the Philistine lords and pleaded: "Send away the ark of the God of Israel. Let it return to its own place, that it may not kill us and our kindred." A deadly panic had seized the whole city, since the hand of God had been very heavy upon it.	11 Convocaram todos os príncipes dos Filisteus, os quais disseram: Devolvei a arca do Deus de Israel; que volte para o seu lugar, e não nos mate a nós e ao nosso povo.
12 Those who escaped death were afflicted with hemorrhoids, and the outcry from the city went up to the heavens.	12 Todas as cidades estavam cheias de medo de morrer, e a mão de Deus fazia-se sentir extraordiniariamente pesada; as pessoas que não morriam eram feridas nas partes mais ocultas do corpo, e o alarido de cada cidade subia até ao céu.
