1 Saul discussed his intention of killing David with his son Jonathan and with all his servants. But Saul's son Jonathan, who was very fond of David,	1 Szólt ezért Saul Jonatánnak, a fiának és minden szolgájának, hogy öljék meg Dávidot. Ám Jonatán, Saul fia nagyon szerette Dávidot.
2 told him: "My father Saul is trying to kill you. Therefore, please be on your guard tomorrow morning; get out of sight and remain in hiding.	2 Éppen azért értesítette Jonatán Dávidot, s megmondta neki: »Saul, az apám halálra keres téged: reggel tehát, kérlek, vigyázz magadra, s rejtőzködj el titokban.
3 I, however, will go out and stand beside my father in the countryside where you are, and will speak to him about you. If I learn anything, I will let you know."	3 Én aztán majd kimegyek, s azon a mezőn, ahol te leszel, apám elé állok, s beszélek rólad apámnak, s amit tapasztalni fogok, majd tudtodra adom.«
4 Jonathan then spoke well of David to his father Saul, saying to him: "Let not your majesty sin against his servant David, for he has committed no offense against you, but has helped you very much by his deeds.	4 Jonatán erre jót szólt apjának, Saulnak Dávidról és azt mondta neki: »Ne vétkezz király, szolgád, Dávid ellen, hiszen ő nem vétkezett ellened, s cselekedetei nagyon hasznosak neked.
5 When he took his life in his hands and slew the Philistine, and the LORD brought about a great victory for all Israel through him, you were glad to see it. Why, then, should you become guilty of shedding innocent blood by killing David without cause?"	5 Kockára tette életét, és megverte a filiszteust. Az Úr nagy győzelmet juttatott általa egész Izraelnek: láttad és örültél! Miért vétkeznél tehát ártatlan vér ellen, s miért ölnéd meg Dávidot, aki semmit sem követett el?«
6 Saul heeded Jonathan's plea and swore, "As the LORD lives, he shall not be killed."	6 Amikor ezt Saul hallotta, Jonatán szavára megengesztelődött és megesküdött: »Az Úr életére mondom, hogy nem fogom megöletni.«
7 So Jonathan summoned David and repeated the whole conversation to him. Jonathan then brought David to Saul, and David served him as before.	7 Erre Jonatán előhívatta Dávidot és elmondta neki mindezeket a szavakat. Aztán Jonatán bevitte Dávidot Saulhoz, s ő ismét olyan volt előtte, mint azelőtt.
8 When war broke out again, David went out to fight against the Philistines and inflicted a great defeat upon them, putting them to flight.	8 Ám ismét megindult a harc és Dávid kivonult és hadakozott a filiszteusok ellen. Nagy csapást mért rájuk, és azok megfutamodtak színe elől.
9 Then an evil spirit from the LORD came upon Saul as he was sitting in his house with spear in hand and David was playing the harp nearby.	9 Erre Sault ismét megszállta az Úr egyik gonosz lelke. Így üldögélt házában, kezében a dárdával, miközben Dávid pengette a lantot kezével.
10 Saul tried to nail David to the wall with the spear, but David eluded Saul, so that the spear struck only the wall, and David got away safe.	10 Egyszer csak Saul ismét megkísérelte, hogy Dávidot a falhoz szegezze a dárdával, de Dávid elhajolt Saul színe elől, s a dárda, anélkül, hogy sebet ejtett volna, a falba fúródott. Erre Dávid elszaladt és még azon éjjel elmenekült.
11 The same night, Saul sent messengers to David's house to guard it, that he might kill him in the morning. David's wife Michal informed him, "Unless you save yourself tonight, tomorrow you will be killed."	11 Erre Saul elküldte csatlósait Dávid házához, hogy őrizzék és reggel megöljék. Ám Míkol, a felesége tudtára adta ezt Dávidnak: »Ha meg nem mented magadat ez éjjel, holnap meghalsz.«
12 Then Michal let David down through a window, and he made his escape in safety.	12 Éppen azért lebocsátotta őt az ablakon, s ő elment, elfutott és megmenekült.
13 Michal took the household idol and laid it in the bed, putting a net of goat's hair at its head and covering it with a spread.	13 Míkol aztán vette a szobrot, rátette az ágyra, szőrös kecskebőrt tett a feje alá és ruhákkal betakarta.
14 When Saul sent messengers to arrest David, she said, "He is sick."	14 Amikor aztán Saul poroszlókat küldött oda, hogy fogják meg Dávidot, azok azt a választ hozták, hogy beteg.
15 Saul, however, sent the messengers back to see David and commanded them, "Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him."	15 Erre Saul visszaküldte a követeket, hogy nézzék meg Dávidot és azt mondta: »Ágyastul is hozzátok elém, hogy megölethessem.«
16 But when the messengers entered, they found the household idol in the bed, with the net of goat's hair at its head.	16 Amikor azonban a követek odaértek, a szobrot találták az ágyban, kecskebőrrel a feje alatt.
17 Saul therefore asked Michal: "Why did you play this trick on me? You have helped my enemy to get away!" Michal answered Saul: "He threatened me, 'Let me go or I will kill you.'"	17 Azt mondta erre Saul Míkolnak: »Miért játszottál így ki, s miért engedted ellenségemet elfutni?« Míkol azt felelte rá Saulnak: »Azért, mert ő azt mondta nekem: ‘Engedj el, különben megöllek.’«
18 Thus David got safely away; he went to Samuel in Ramah, informing him of all that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went to stay in the sheds.	18 Közben Dávid elfutott és megmenekült és eljutott Sámuelhez Ramátába, s elbeszélte neki mindazt, amit vele Saul művelt. Erre ő és Sámuel elmentek, s megtelepedtek Nájótban.
19 When Saul was told that David was in the sheds near Ramah,	19 Hírül vitték azonban Saulnak, s elmondták neki: »Íme, Dávid a ramátai Nájótban van.«
20 he sent messengers to arrest David. But when they saw the band of prophets, presided over by Samuel, in a prophetic frenzy, they too fell into the prophetic state.	20 Erre Saul poroszlókat küldött, hogy fogják meg Dávidot. Amikor azonban meglátták a jövendölő próféták seregét és vezetőjüket, Sámuelt, őket is betöltötte Isten lelke, s ők is prófétálni kezdtek.
21 Informed of this, Saul sent other messengers, who also fell into the prophetic state. For the third time Saul sent messengers, but they too fell into the prophetic state.	21 Amikor ezt hírül vitték Saulnak, más követeket küldött, de azok is prófétálni kezdtek. Erre Saul harmadszor is követeket küldött, de azok is prófétálni kezdtek. Megharagudott erre Saul,
22 Saul then went to Ramah himself. Arriving at the cistern of the threshing floor on the bare hilltop, he inquired, "Where are Samuel and David?", and was told, "At the sheds near Ramah."	22 s maga is elment Ramátába; amikor a Szókóban levő nagy vízveremhez jutott, megkérdezte: »Hol van Sámuel és Dávid?« Azt mondták erre neki: »Íme, a ramátai Nájótban vannak.«
23 As he set out from the hilltop toward the sheds, the spirit of God came upon him also, and he continued on in a prophetic condition until he reached the spot. At the sheds near Ramah	23 Elindult tehát a ramátai Nájótba, de őt is eltöltötte Isten lelke, s amint ment és haladt, egyre prófétálgatott, amíg a ramátai Nájótba nem jutott.
24 he, too, stripped himself of his garments and he, too, remained in the prophetic state in the presence of Samuel; all that day and night he lay naked. That is why they say, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"	24 Ott ő is levetette ruháit és prófétált a többiekkel együtt Sámuel előtt, s ott feküdt azon egész nap és éjjel mezítelenül. Innen is származott a közmondás: »Hát Saul is a próféták közt van?«
