Hebrews 9

NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
Now (even) the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly sanctuary.1 The former indeed had also justifications of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
For a tabernacle was constructed, the outer one, in which were the lampstand, the table, and the bread of offering; this is called the Holy Place.2 For there was a tabernacle made the first, wherein were the candlesticks, and the table, and the setting forth of loaves, which is called the holy.
Behind the second veil was the tabernacle called the Holy of Holies,3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle, which is called the holy of holies:
in which were the gold altar of incense and the ark of the covenant entirely covered with gold. In it were the gold jar containing the manna, the staff of Aaron that had sprouted, and the tablets of the covenant.4 Having a golden censer, and the ark of the testament covered about on every part with gold, in which was a golden pot that had manna, and the rod of Aaron, that had blossomed, and the tables of the testament.
Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the place of expiation. Now is not the time to speak of these in detail.5 And over it were the cherubims of glory overshadowing the propitiatory: of which it is not needful to speak now particularly.
With these arrangements for worship, the priests, in performing their service, go into the outer tabernacle repeatedly,6 Now these things being thus ordered, into the first tabernacle the priests indeed always entered, accomplishing the offices of sacrifices.
but the high priest alone goes into the inner one once a year, not without blood that he offers for himself and for the sins of the people.7 But into the second, the high priest alone, once a year: not without blood, which he offereth for his own, and the people's ignorance:
In this way the holy Spirit shows that the way into the sanctuary had not yet been revealed while the outer tabernacle still had its place.8 The Holy Ghost signifying this, that the way into the holies was not yet made manifest, whilst the former tabernacle was yet standing.
This is a symbol of the present time, in which gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the worshiper in conscience9 Which is a parable of the time present: according to which gifts and sacrifices are offered, which can not, as to the conscience, make him perfect that serveth, only in meats and in drinks,
but only in matters of food and drink and various ritual washings: regulations concerning the flesh, imposed until the time of the new order.10 And divers washings, and justices of the flesh laid on them until the time of correction.
But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come to be, passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is, not belonging to this creation,11 But Christ, being come an high priest of the good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hand, that is, not of this creation:
he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.12 Neither by the blood of goats, or of calves, but by his own blood, entered once into the holies, having obtained eternal redemption.
For if the blood of goats and bulls and the sprinkling of a heifer's ashes can sanctify those who are defiled so that their flesh is cleansed,13 For if the blood of goats and of oxen, and the ashes of an heifer being sprinkled, sanctify such as are defiled, to the cleansing of the flesh:
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God.14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who by the Holy Ghost offered himself unspotted unto God, cleanse our conscience from dead works, to serve the living God?
For this reason he is mediator of a new covenant: since a death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance.15 And therefore he is the mediator of the new testament: that by means of his death, for the redemption of those trangressions, which were under the former testament, they that are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Now where there is a will, the death of the testator must be established.16 For where there is a testament, the death of the testator must of necessity come in.
For a will takes effect only at death; it has no force while the testator is alive.17 For a testament is of force, after men are dead: otherwise it is as yet of no strength, whilst the testator liveth.
Thus not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood.18 Whereupon neither was the first indeed dedicated without blood.
When every commandment had been proclaimed by Moses to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves (and goats), together with water and crimson wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,19 For when every commandment of the law had been read by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
saying, "This is 'the blood of the covenant which God has enjoined upon you.'"20 Saying: This is the blood of the testament, which God hath enjoined unto you.
In the same way, he sprinkled also the tabernacle and all the vessels of worship with blood.21 The tabernacle also and all the vessels of the ministry, in like manner, he sprinkled with blood.
According to the law almost everything is purified by blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.22 And almost all things, according to the law, are cleansed with blood: and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Therefore, it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified by these rites, but the heavenly things themselves by better sacrifices than these.23 It is necessary therefore that the patterns of heavenly things should be cleansed with these: but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf.24 For Jesus is not entered into the holies made with hands, the patterns of the true: but into heaven itself, that he may appear now in the presence of God for us.
Not that he might offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters each year into the sanctuary with blood that is not his own;25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holies, every year with the blood of others:
if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of the world. But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice.26 For then he ought to have suffered often from the beginning of the world: but now once at the end of ages, he hath appeared for the destruction of sin, by the sacrifice of himself.
Just as it is appointed that human beings die once, and after this the judgment,27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment:
so also Christ, offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him.28 So also Christ was offered once to exhaust the sins of many; the second time he shall appear without sin to them that expect him unto salvation.
