1 After they had subdued the land, the whole community of the Israelites assembled at Shiloh, where they set up the meeting tent.	1 Tutta la comunità degli Israeliti si radunò a Silo, e qui eresse la tenda del convegno. La terra era stata sottomessa a loro.
2 Seven tribes among the Israelites had not yet received their heritage.	2 Rimanevano tra gli Israeliti sette tribù che non avevano avuto la loro parte.
3 Joshua therefore said to the Israelites, "How much longer will you put off taking steps to possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?	3 Disse allora Giosuè agli Israeliti: «Fino a quando trascurerete di andare a occupare la terra, che il Signore, Dio dei vostri padri, vi ha dato?
4 Choose three men from each of your tribes; I will commission them to begin a survey of the land, which they shall describe for purposes of inheritance. When they return to me	4 Sceglietevi tre uomini per tribù e io li invierò. Essi andranno subito a ispezionare la terra, ne tracceranno un piano per la divisione in eredità e torneranno da me.
5 you shall divide it into seven parts. Judah is to retain its territory in the south, and the house of Joseph its territory in the north.	5 Essi se la divideranno in sette parti: Giuda rimarrà sul suo territorio nel meridione e quelli della casa di Giuseppe rimarranno sul loro territorio al settentrione.
6 You shall bring here to me the description of the land in seven sections. I will then cast lots for you here before the LORD, our God.	6 Voi traccerete una mappa scritta della terra in sette parti e me la porterete qui e io getterò per voi la sorte qui, dinanzi al Signore, Dio nostro.
7 For the Levites have no share among you, because the priesthood of the LORD is their heritage; while Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received the heritage east of the Jordan which Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave them."	7 Tuttavia non vi è parte per i leviti in mezzo a voi, perché il sacerdozio del Signore è la loro eredità, e Gad, Ruben e metà della tribù di Manasse hanno già ricevuto la loro eredità oltre il Giordano, a oriente, come ha concesso loro Mosè, servo del Signore».
8 When those who were to map out the land were ready for the journey, Joshua instructed them to survey the land, prepare a description of it, and return to him; then he would cast lots for them there before the LORD in Shiloh.	8 Quegli uomini si misero in cammino; Giosuè comandò a coloro che andarono a tracciare una mappa scritta della terra: «Andate a perlustrare la regione, tracciatene una mappa e tornate da me e qui io getterò per voi la sorte davanti al Signore, a Silo».
9 So they went through the land, listed its cities in writing in seven sections, and returned to Joshua in the camp at Shiloh.	9 Gli uomini andarono, ispezionarono la regione, ne tracciarono una mappa scritta secondo le città, dividendola in sette parti, e ritornarono da Giosuè all’accampamento, a Silo.
10 Joshua then divided up the land for the Israelites into their separate shares, casting lots for them before the LORD in Shiloh.	10 Allora Giosuè gettò per loro la sorte a Silo, dinanzi al Signore, e lì Giosuè spartì la terra tra gli Israeliti, secondo le loro ripartizioni.
11 One lot fell to the clans of the tribe of Benjaminites. The territory allotted them lay between the descendants of Judah and those of Joseph.	11 Fu tirata a sorte la parte della tribù dei figli di Beniamino, secondo i loro casati; il territorio che toccò loro aveva i confini tra i figli di Giuda e i figli di Giuseppe.
12 Their northern boundary began at the Jordan and went over the northern flank of Jericho, up westward into the mountains, till it reached the desert of Beth-aven.	12 Dal lato settentrionale, il loro confine partiva dal Giordano, saliva il pendio settentrionale di Gerico, saliva per la montagna verso occidente e faceva capo al deserto di Bet-Aven.
13 From there it crossed over to the southern flank of Luz (that is, Bethel). Then it ran down to Ataroth-addar, on the mountaintop south of Lower Beth-horon.	13 Di là passava per Luz, sul versante meridionale di Luz, cioè Betel, e scendeva ad Atròt-Addar, presso il monte che è a mezzogiorno di Bet-Oron inferiore.
14 For the western border, the boundary line swung south from the mountaintop opposite Bethhoron till it reached Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), which city belonged to the Judahites. This was the western boundary.	14 Poi il confine piegava e, al lato occidentale, girava a mezzogiorno, dal monte posto di fronte a Bet-Oron, a mezzogiorno, e faceva capo a Kiriat-Baal, cioè Kiriat-Iearìm, città dei figli di Giuda. Questo era il lato occidentale.
15 The southern boundary began at the limits of Kiriath-jearim and projected to the spring at Nephtoah.	15 Il lato meridionale cominciava all’estremità di Kiriat-Iearìm. Il confine piegava verso occidente, fino alla fonte delle acque di Neftòach,
16 It went down to the edge of the mountain on the north of the Valley of Rephaim, where it faces the Valley of Ben-hinnom; and continuing down the Valley of Hinnom along the southern flank of the Jebusites, reached En-rogel.	16 poi scendeva fino al crinale del monte di fronte alla valle di Ben-Innòm, nella valle dei Refaìm, a settentrione, e scendeva per la valle di Ben-Innòm, sul pendio meridionale dei Gebusei, fino a En-Roghel.
17 Inclining to the north, it extended to En-shemesh, and thence to Geliloth, opposite the pass of Adummim. Then it dropped to Eben-Bohan-ben-Reuben,	17 Si estendeva quindi verso il settentrione e giungeva a En-Semes; di là si dirigeva verso Ghelilòt, che è di fronte alla salita di Adummìm, e scendeva al sasso di Boan, figlio di Ruben,
18 across the northern flank of the Arabah overlook, down into the Aarabah.	18 poi passava per il pendio settentrionale di fronte all’Araba e scendeva all’Araba.
19 From there the boundary continued across the northern flank of Beth-hoglah and extended to the northern tip of the Salt Sea, at the southern end of the Jordan. This was the southern boundary.	19 Il confine passava quindi per il pendio settentrionale di Bet-Cogla e faceva capo al golfo settentrionale del Mar Morto, alla foce meridionale del Giordano. Questo era il confine meridionale.
20 The Jordan bounded it on the east. This was how the heritage of the clans of the Benjaminites was bounded on all sides.	20 Il Giordano serviva di confine dal lato orientale. Questa era l’eredità dei figli di Beniamino, secondo i loro casati, con i suoi confini da tutti i lati.
21 Now the cities belonging to the clans of the tribe of the Benjaminites were: Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz,	21 Le città della tribù dei figli di Beniamino, secondo i loro casati, erano: Gerico, Bet-Cogla, Emek-Kesis,
22 Beth-arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,	22 Bet-Araba, Semaràim, Betel,

24 Chephar-ammoni, Ophni and Geba; twelve cities and their villages.	24 Chefar-Ammonài, Ofni e Gheba: dodici città e i loro villaggi;
25 Also Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,	25 Gàbaon, Rama, Beeròt,
26 Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah,	26 Mispa, Chefirà, Mosa,
27 Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,	27 Rekem, Irpeèl, Taralà,
28 Zela, Haeleph, the Jebusite city (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah and Kiriath; fourteen cities and their villages. This was the heritage of the clans of Benjaminites.	28 Sela-Elef, la città gebusea, cioè Gerusalemme, Gàbaa, Kiriat-Iearìm: quattordici città e i loro villaggi. Questa era l’eredità dei figli di Beniamino, secondo i loro casati.
