1 "Thus, then, shall it be: if you continue to heed the voice of the LORD, your God, and are careful to observe all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, the LORD, your God, will raise you high above all the nations of the earth.	1 Y si tú escuchas de verdad la voz de Yahveh tu Dios, cuidando de practicar todos los mandamientos que yo te prescribo hoy, Yahveh tu Dios le levantará por encima de todas las naciones de la tierra,
2 When you hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God, all these blessings will come upon you and overwhelm you:	2 y vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán todas las bendiciones siguientes, por haber escuchado la voz de Yahveh tu Dios.
3 "May you be blessed in the city, and blessed in the country!	3 Bendito serás en la ciudad y bendito en el campo.
4 "Blessed be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your soil and the offspring of your livestock, the issue of your herds and the young of your flocks!	4 Bendito será el fruto de tus entrañas, el producto de tu suelo, el fruto de tu ganado, el parto de tus vacas y las crías de tus ovejas.
5 "Blessed be your grain bin and your kneading bowl!	5 Benditas serán tu cesta y tu artesa.
6 "May you be blessed in your coming in, and blessed in your going out!	6 Bendito serás cuando entres y bendito cuando salgas.
7 "The LORD will beat down before you the enemies that rise up against you; though they come out against you from but one direction, they will flee before you in seven.	7 A los enemigos que se levanten contra ti, Yahveh los pondrá en derrota: salidos por un camino a tu encuentro, por siete caminos huirán de ti.
8 The LORD will affirm his blessing upon you, on your barns and on all your undertakings, blessing you in the land that the LORD, your God, gives you.	8 Yahveh mandará a la bendición que esté contigo, en tus graneros y en tus empresas, y te bendecirá en la tierra que Yahveh tu Dios te da.
9 Provided that you keep the commandments of the LORD, your God, and walk in his ways, he will establish you as a people sacred to himself, as he swore to you;	9 Yahveh hará de ti el pueblo consagrado a él, como te ha jurado, si tú guardas los mandamientos de Yahveh tu Dios y sigues sus caminos.
10 so that, when all the nations of the earth see you bearing the name of the LORD, they will stand in awe of you.	10 Todos los pueblos de la tierra verán que sobre ti es invocado el nombre de Yahveh y te temerán.
11 The LORD will increase in more than goodly measure the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil, in the land which he swore to your fathers he would give you.	11 Yahveh te hará rebosar de bienes: frutos de tus entrañas, frutos de tu ganado, y frutos de tu suelo, en esta tierra que él juró a tus padres que te daría.
12 The LORD will open up for you his rich treasure house of the heavens, to give your land rain in due season, blessing all your undertakings, so that you will lend to many nations and borrow from none.	12 Yahveh abrirá para ti los cielos, su rico tesoro, para dar a su tiempo la lluvia necesaria a tu tierra y para bendicir todas tus obras. Prestarás a naciones numerosas, y tú no tendrás que tomar prestado.
13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail, and you will always mount higher and not decline, as long as you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I order you today to observe carefully;	13 Yahveh te pondrá a la cabeza y no a la zaga; siempre estarás encima y nunca debajo, si esuchas los mandamientos de Yahveh tu Dios, que yo te prescribo hoy, guardándolos y poniéndolos en práctica,
14 not turning aside to the right or to the left from any of the commandments which I now give you, in order to follow other gods and serve them.	14 sin apartarte ni a derecha ni a izquierda de ninguna de estas palabras que yo os prescribo hoy, para ir en pos de otros dioses a servirles.
15 "But if you do not hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God, and are not careful to observe all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, all these curses shall come upon you and overwhelm you:	15 Pero si desoyes la voz de Yahveh tu Dios, y no cuidas de practicar todos sus mandamientos y sus preceptos, que yo te prescribo hoy, te sobrevendrán y te alcanzarán todas las maldiciones siguientes:
16 "May you be cursed in the city, and cursed in the country!	16 Maldito serás en la ciudad y maldito en el campo.
17 "Cursed be your grain bin and your kneading bowl!	17 Malditas serán tu cesta y tu artesa.
18 "Cursed be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your soil and the offspring of your livestock, the issue of your herds and the young of your flocks!	18 Maldito el fruto de tus entrañas y el fruto de tu suelo, el parto de tus vacas y las crías de tus ovejas.
19 "May you be cursed in your coming in, and cursed in your going out!	19 Maldito serás cuando entres y maldito cuando salgas.
20 "The LORD will put a curse on you, defeat and frustration in every enterprise you undertake, until you are speedily destroyed and perish for the evil you have done in forsaking me.	20 Yahveh enviará contra ti la maldición, el desastre, la amenaza, en todas tus empresas, hasta que seas exterminado y perezcas rápidamente, a causa de la perversidad de tus acciones por las que me habrás abandonado.
21 The LORD will bring a pestilence upon you that will persist until he has exterminated you from the land you are entering to occupy.	21 Yahveh hará que se te pegue la peste, hasta que te haga desaparecer de este suelo adonde vas a entrar para tomarlo en posesión.
22 The LORD will strike you with wasting and fever, with scorching, fiery drought, with blight and searing wind, that will plague you until you perish.	22 Yahveh te herirá de tisis, fiebre, inflamación, gangrena, sequía, tizón y añublo, que te perseguirán hasta que perezcas.
23 The sky over your heads will be like bronze and the earth under your feet like iron.	23 Los cielos de encima de tu cabeza serán de bronce, y la tierra de debajo de ti será de hierro.
24 For rain the LORD will give your land powdery dust, which will come down upon you from the sky until you are destroyed.	24 Yahveh dará como lluvia a tu tierra polvo y arena, que caerán del cielo sobre ti hasta tu destrucción.
25 The LORD will let you be beaten down before your enemies; though you advance against them from one direction, you will flee before them in seven, so that you will become a terrifying example to all the kingdoms of the earth.	25 Yahveh hará que sucumbas ante tus enemigos: salido a su encuentro por un camino, por siete caminos huirás de ellos, y serás el espanto de todos los reinos de la tierra.
26 Your carcasses will become food for all the birds of the air and for the beasts of the field, with no one to frighten them off.	26 Tu cadáver será pasto de todas las aves del cielo y de todas las bestias de la tierra sin que nadie las espante.
27 The LORD will strike you with Egyptian boils and with tumors, eczema and the itch, until you cannot be cured.	27 Yahveh te herirá con úlceras de Egipto, con tumores, sarna y tiña, de las que no podrás sanar.
28 And the LORD will strike you with madness, blindness and panic,	28 Yahveh te herirá de delirio, ceguera y pérdida de sentidos,
29 so that even at midday you will grope like a blind man in the dark, unable to find your way. "You will be oppressed and robbed continually, with no one to come to your aid.	29 hasta el punto que andarás a tientas en pleno mediodía como el ciego anda a tientas en la oscuridad, y tus pasos no llegarán a término. Estarás oprimido y despojado toda la vida, y no habrá quien te salve.
30 Though you betroth a wife, another man will have her. Though you build a house, you will not live in it. Though you plant a vineyard, you will not enjoy its fruits.	30 Te desposarás con una mujer y otro hombre la hará suya; edficarás una casa y no la habitarás; plantarás una viña y no podrás disfrutar de ella.
31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, and you will not eat of its flesh. Your ass will be stolen in your presence, but you will not recover it. Your flocks will be given to your enemies, with no one to come to your aid.	31 Tu buey será degollado a tus propios ojos, y no podrás comer de él; tu asno será robado en tu presencia, y no se te devolverá; tus ovejas serán entregadas a tus enemigos, y no habrá quien te salve;
32 Your sons and daughters will be given to a foreign nation while you look on and grieve for them in constant helplessness.	32 tus hijos y tus hijas serán entregados a otro pueblo; tus ojos se consumirán mirando todos los días hacia ellos, pero tus manos no podrán hacer nada.
33 A people whom you do not know will consume the fruit of your soil and of all your labor, and you will be oppressed and crushed at all times without surcease,	33 El fruto de tu suelo y toda tu fatiga lo comerá un pueblo que no conoces. No serás más que un explotado y oprimido toda la vida.
34 until you are driven mad by what your eyes must look upon.	34 Y te volverás loco ante el espectáculo que verás con tus ojos.
35 The LORD will strike you with malignant boils of which you cannot be cured, on your knees and legs, and from the soles of your feet to the crown of your head.	35 Yahveh te herirá de úlceras malignas en las rodillas y en las piernas, de las que no podrás sanar, desde la planta de los pies hasta la coronilla de la cabeza.
36 "The LORD will bring you, and your king whom you have set over you, to a nation which you and your fathers have not known, and there you will serve strange gods of wood and stone,	36 Yahveh te llevará a ti y al que hayas puesto sobre ti a una nación que ni tú ni tus padres conocíais, y allí servirás a otros dioses, de madera y de piedra.
37 and will call forth amazement, reproach and barbed scorn from all the nations to which the LORD will lead you.	37 Serás el asombro, el proverbio y la irrisión de todos los pueblos a donde Yahveh te conduzca.
38 "Though you spend much seed on your field, you will harvest but little, for the locusts will devour the crop.	38 Echarás en tus campos mucha semilla y cosecharás poco, porque la asolará la langosta.
39 Though you plant and cultivate vineyards, you will not drink or store up the wine, for the grubs will eat the vines clean.	39 Plantarás y cultivarás viñas, pero no beberás vino ni recogerás nada, porque el gusano las devorará.
40 Though you have olive trees throughout your country, you will have no oil for ointment, for your olives will drop off unripe.	40 Tendrás olivos por todo tu territorio, pero no te ungirás de aceite, porque tus olivos caerán.
41 Though you beget sons and daughters, they will not remain with you, but will go into captivity.	41 Engendrarás hijos e hijas, pero no serán para ti, porque irán al cautiverio.
42 Buzzing insects will infest all your trees and the crops of your soil.	42 Todos tus árboles y los frutos de tu suelo serán presa de los insectos.
43 The alien residing among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.	43 El forastero que vive junto a ti subirá a costa tuya cada vez más alto, y tú caerás cada vez más bajo.
44 He will lend to you, not you to him. He will become the head, you the tail.	44 El te prestará, y tú tendrás que tomar prestado; él estará a la cabeza y tú a la zaga.
45 "All these curses will come upon you, pursuing you and overwhelming you, until you are destroyed, because you would not hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God, nor keep the commandments and statutes he gave you.	45 Todas estas maldiciones caerán sobre ti, te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta destruirte, por no haber escuchado la voz de Yahveh tu Dios, guardando los mandamientos y los preceptos que él te ha prescrito.
46 They will light on you and your descendants as a sign and a wonder for all time.	46 Serán como una señal y un prodigio sobre ti y sobre tu descendencia para siempre.
47 Since you would not serve the LORD, your God, with joy and gratitude for abundance of every kind,	47 Por no haber servido a Yahveh tu Dios en la alegría y la dicha de corazón, cuando abundabas en todo,
48 therefore in hunger and thirst, in nakedness and utter poverty, you will serve the enemies whom the LORD will send against you. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he destroys you.	48 servirás a los enemigos que Yahveh enviará contra ti, con hambre, sed, desnudez y privación de todo. El pondrá en tu cuello un yugo de hierro hasta que te destruya.
49 "The LORD will raise up against you a nation from afar, from the end of the earth, that swoops down like an eagle, a nation whose tongue you do not understand,	49 Yahveh levantará contra ti una nación venida de lejos, de los extremos de la tierra, como el águila que se cierne. Será una nación de lengua desconocida para ti,
50 a nation of stern visage, that shows neither respect for the aged nor pity for the young.	50 una nación de rostro fiero, que no respetará al anciano ni tendá compasión del niño.
51 They will consume the offspring of your livestock and the produce of your soil, until you are destroyed; they will leave you no grain or wine or oil, no issue of your herds or young of your flocks, until they have brought about your ruin.	51 Comerá el fruto de tu ganado y el fruto de tu suelo, hasta destruirte; no te dejará trigo, mosto, ni aceite, ni los partos de tus vacas, ni las crías de tus ovejas, hasta acabar contigo.
52 They will besiege you in each of your communities, until the great, unscalable walls you trust in come tumbling down all over your land. They will so besiege you in every community throughout the land which the LORD, your God, has given you,	52 Te asediará en todas tus ciudades, hasta que caigan en toda tu tierra tus murallas más altas y más fortificadas, en las que tú ponías tu confianza. Te asediará en tus ciudades, en toda la tierra que te haya dado Yahveh tu Dios.
53 that in the distress of the siege to which your enemy subjects you, you will eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your own sons and daughters whom the LORD, your God, has given you.	53 Comerás el fruto de tus entrañas, la carne de tus hijos y tus hijas que te haya dado Yahveh tu Dios, en el asedio y la angustia a que te reducirá tu enemigo.
54 The most refined and fastidious man among you will begrudge his brother and his beloved wife and his surviving children,	54 El más delicado y tierno de entre los tuyos mirará con malos ojos a su hermano, e incluso a la esposa de su corazón y a los hijos que le queden,
55 any share in the flesh of his children that he himself is using for food when nothing else is left him in the straits of the siege to which your enemy will subject you in all your communities.	55 negándose a compartir con ellos la carne de sus hijos que se comerá, al quedarle ya nada en el asedio y la angustia a que tu enemigo te reducirá en todas tus ciudades.
56 The most refined and delicate woman among you, so delicate and refined that she would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground, will begrudge her beloved husband and her son and daughter	56 La más delicada y tierna de las mujeres de tu pueblo, tan delicada y tierna que no hubiera osado posar en tierra la planta de su pie, mirará con malos ojos al esposo de su corazón, e incluso a su hijo y a su hija,
57 the afterbirth that issues from her womb and the infant she brings forth when she secretly uses them for food for want of anything else, in the straits of the siege to which your enemy will subject you in your communities.	57 a las secundinas salidas de su seno y a los hijos que dé a luz, pues los comerá a escondidas, por la privación de todo, en el asedio y la angustia a que te reducirá tu enemigo en todas tus ciudades.
58 "If you are not careful to observe every word of the law which is written in this book, and to revere the glorious and awesome name of the LORD, your God,	58 Si no cuidas de poner en práctica todas las palabras de esta Ley escritas en este libro, temiendo a ese nombre glorioso y temible, a Yahveh tu Dios,
59 he will smite you and your descendants with severe and constant blows, malignant and lasting maladies.	59 Yahveh hará terribles tus plagas y las de tu descendencia: plagas grandes y duraderas, enfermedades perniciosas y tenaces.
60 He will again afflict you with all the diseases of Egypt which you dread, and they will persist among you.	60 Hará caer de nuevo sobre ti aquellas epidemias de Egipto a las que tanto miedo tenías, y se pegarán a ti.
61 Should there be any kind of sickness or calamity not mentioned in this book of the law, that too the LORD will bring upon you until you are destroyed.	61 Más todavía, todas las enfermedades y plagas que no se mencionan en el libro de esta Ley, las suscitará Yahveh contra ti, hasta destruirte.
62 Of you who were numerous as the stars in the sky, only a few will be left, because you would not hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God.	62 No quedaréis más que unos pocos hombres, vosotros que erais tan numerosos como las estrellas del cielo, por haber desoído la voz de Yahveh tu Dios.
63 "Just as the LORD once took delight in making you grow and prosper, so will he now take delight in ruining and destroying you, and you will be plucked out of the land you are now entering to occupy.	63 Y sucederá que lo mismo que Yahveh se complacía en haceros favor y en multoplicaros, así se gozará en perderos, y destruiros. Seréis arrancados del suelo adonde vas a entrar para tomarlo en posesión.
64 The LORD will scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth to the other, and there you will serve strange gods of wood and stone, such as you and your fathers have not known.	64 Yahveh te dispersará entre todos los pueblos, de un extremo a otro de la tierra, y allí servirás a otros dioses, de madera y de piedra, desconocidos de ti y de tus padres.
65 Among these nations you will find no repose, not a foot of ground to stand upon, for there the LORD will give you an anguished heart and wasted eyes and a dismayed spirit.	65 No hallarás sosiego en aquellas naciones, ni habrá descanso para la planta de tus pies, sino que Yahveh te dará allí un corazón trémulo, languidez de ojos y ansiedad de alma.
66 You will live in constant suspense and stand in dread both day and night, never sure of your existence.	66 Tu vida estará ante ti como pendiente de un hilo, tendrás miedo de noche y de día, y ni de tu vida te sentirás seguro.
67 In the morning you will say, 'Would that it were evening!' and in the evening you will say, 'Would that it were morning!' for the dread that your heart must feel and the sight that your eyes must see.	67 Por la mañana dirás: «¡Ojalá llegase la tarde!», y por la tarde dirás: «¡Ojalá llegase la mañana!», a causa del espanto que estremecerá tu corazón y del espectáculo que verán tus ojos.
68 The LORD will send you back in galleys to Egypt, to the region I told you that you were never to see again; and there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer."	68 Yahveh volverá a llevarte a Egipto en barcos, por ese camino del que yo te había dicho: «No volverás a verlo más». Y allí os ofreceréis en venta a vuestros enemigos como esclavos y esclavas, pero no habrá ni comprador.
69 These are the words of the covenant which the LORD ordered Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them at Horeb.	69 Estas son las palabras de la alianza que Yahveh mandó a Moisés concluir con los israelitas en el país de Moab, aparte de la alianza que había concluido con ellos en el Horeb.
