1 While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.	1 Ora, avvenne che, mentre la folla gli si stingeva intorno per ascoltare la parola di Dio, egli stava presso il lago di Gennesaret,
2 He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets.	2 e vide due barche ferme presso la riva del lago; i pescatori ne erano discesi e lavavano le reti.
3 Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.	3 Salito in una delle barche, che apparteneva a Simone, pregò costui di scostarsi un po’ da terra, poi, sedutosi, dalla barca istruiva le folle.
4 After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch."	4 Quando ebbe finito di parlare, disse a Simone: «Va’ al largo e calate le reti per la pesca».
5 Simon said in reply, "Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets."	5 Gli rispose Simone: «Maestro, abbiamo faticato tutta una notte senza prender nulla, ma sulla tua parola calerò le reti».
6 When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing.	6 Avendolo fatto, presero una gran quantità di pesci: e le loro reti si rompevano.
7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that they were in danger of sinking.	7 Fecero cenno ai compagni dell’altra barca perché venissero ad aiutarli. Vennero, e riempirono tutt’e due le barche, tanto che affondavano.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man."	8 A tal vista, Simon Pietro cadde alle ginocchia di Gesù, dicendo: «Allontanati da me, perché sono uomo peccatore, Signore!»
9 For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him,	9 Erano presi da stupore, difatti, lui e tutti quelli che erano con lui, per la pesca fatta;
10 and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners of Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men."	10 così pure Giacomo e Giovanni, figli di Zebedeo, i quali erano soci di Simone. E disse a Simone Gesù: «Non temere: d’ora innanzi sarai pescatore d’uomini».
11 When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.	11 E, ricondotte a riva le barche e lasciato tutto, lo seguirono.
12 Now there was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where he was; and when he saw Jesus, he fell prostrate, pleaded with him, and said, "Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean."	12 Mentr’era in una delle città, ecco un uomo pieno di lebbra; veduto Gesù, si gettò faccia a terra e lo pregò dicendo: «Signore, se vuoi puoi mondarmi».
13 Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, "I do will it. Be made clean." And the leprosy left him immediately.	13 Ed egli, stesa la mano, lo toccò dicendo: «Lo voglio: sii mondato». E all’istante la lebbra lo lasciò.
14 Then he ordered him not to tell anyone, but "Go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them."	14 Poi gli comandò di non dirlo a nessuno: «Va’, invece, mostrati al sacerdote e fa’ per la tua purificazione l’offerta prescritta da Mosè in testimonianza per loro ».
15 The report about him spread all the more, and great crowds assembled to listen to him and to be cured of their ailments,	15 Ma la fama di lui si diffondeva di più e numerose folle accorrevano per ascoltarlo e farsi guarire dalle loro malattie.
16 but he would withdraw to deserted places to pray.	16 Egli, però, si ritirava in luoghi solitari e pregava.
17 One day as Jesus was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem, and the power of the Lord was with him for healing.	17 Un giorno che egli stava insegnando, erano là seduti farisei e dottori della legge venuti da tutti i villaggi della Galilea, della Giudea e da Gerusalemme, e la potenza del Signore faceva operare a Gesù guarigioni.
18 And some men brought on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed; they were trying to bring him in and set (him) in his presence.	18 Ed ecco alcuni uomini che portavano su di un letto un uomo paralizzato e cercavano di portarlo dentro e deporlo, dinanzi a lui.
19 But not finding a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on the stretcher through the tiles into the middle in front of Jesus.	19 Non trovando il modo di introdurlo, a causa della folla, salirono sulla terrazza e, attraverso le tegole, lo calarono in mezzo col lettuccio, dinanzi a Gesù.
20 When he saw their faith, he said, "As for you, your sins are forgiven."	20 Egli, vedendo la loro fede, disse: «Uomo, ti sono rimessi i tuoi peccati».
21 Then the scribes and Pharisees began to ask themselves, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who but God alone can forgive sins?"	21 Gli scribi e i farisei si misero a ragionare tra sé: «Chi è costui, che dice bestemmie? Chi può rimettere i peccati se non Dio solo?»
22 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them in reply, "What are you thinking in your hearts?	22 Ma Gesù, conosciuti i loro ragionamenti, disse loro: «Che ragionate nei vostri cuori?
23 Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'?	23 Che cosa è più facile, dire: “Ti sono rimessi i peccati” o dire: “Levati e cammina”?
24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins''--he said to the man who was paralyzed, "I say to you, rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home."	24 Ebbene, affinché sappiate che il Figlio dell’uomo ha potere sulla terra di rimettere i peccati... — disse al paralitico — dico a te: Levati, prendi il tuo lettuccio e vattene a casa tua!»
25 He stood up immediately before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went home, glorifying God.	25 All’istante quegli si levò sotto i loro occhi, prese il suo giaciglio e se ne andò a casa, glorificando Dio.
26 Then astonishment seized them all and they glorified God, and, struck with awe, they said, "We have seen incredible things today."	26 Tutti furon presi da stupore e glorificavano Dio. Pieni di timore dicevano: «Oggi abbiamo visto cose inopinate!»
27 After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me."	27 Dopo ciò uscì e notò un pubblicano di nome Levi, seduto al banco della dogana, e gli disse: «Seguimi».
28 And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.	28 E quegli, lasciato tutto, si alzò e lo seguì.
29 Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were at table with them.	29 Poi Levi gli offrì un grande convito in casa sua. C’era a tavola con essi gran folla di pubblicani e di altre persone.
30 The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"	30 I farisei € i loro scribi mormoravano e dicevano ai suoi discepoli: «Perché mangiate e bevete con i pubblicani e i peccatori?»
31 Jesus said to them in reply, "Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.	31 E rispose Gesù, dicendo loro: «Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, ma i malati;
32 I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners."	32 io non sono venuto a chiamare i giusti a penitenza, ma i peccatori».
33 And they said to him, "The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink."	33 Quelli, poi, gli dissero: «I discepoli di Giovanni digiunano spesso e fanno preghiere, così pure quelli dei farisei; i tuoi, invece, mangiano e bevono».
34 Jesus answered them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?	34 Gesù disse loro: «Potete forse far digiunare i figli delle nozze mentre lo sposo è con loro?
35 But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days."	35 Verranno i giorni... e, quando lo sposo sarà portato via dalla loro compagnia, allora digiuneranno... in quei giorni».
36 And he also told them a parable. "No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.	36 Disse loro ancora questa parabola: «Nessuno strappa una toppa da un vestito nuovo per attaccarla su un vestito vecchio, altrimenti strappa il nuovo e al vecchio non si intonerà la toppa del nuovo.
37 Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.	37 E nessuno mette vino nuovo in otri vecchi, altrimenti il vino nuovo squarcerà gli otri e così il vino si versa e gli otri vanno perduti.
38 Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.	38 Ma il vino nuovo si deve mettere in otri nuovi.
39 (And) no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, 'The old is good.'"	39 E nessuno, dopo aver bevuto vino vecchio, vuole il nuovo, perché dice: È il vecchio che è buono».
