NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, (and Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, son of Pallu, son of Reuben) took	1 Coré –hijo de Ishar, hijo de Quehat, hijo de Leví– junto con Datán y Abirón, hijos de Eliab, y On, hijo de Pelet –estos últimos eran descendientes de Rubén– decidieron
2 two hundred and fifty Israelites who were leaders in the community, members of the council and men of note. They stood before Moses,	2 sublevarse contra Moisés, secundados por otros doscientos cincuenta israelitas, todos ellos jefes de la comunidad, representantes de la asamblea y personas de renombre.
3 and held an assembly against Moses and Aaron, to whom they said, "Enough from you! The whole community, all of them, are holy; the LORD is in their midst. Why then should you set yourselves over the LORD'S congregation?"	3 Se amotinaron contra Moisés y Aarón, y les dijeron: «¡Ustedes se han excedido en sus atribuciones! Toda la comunidad es sagrada, y el Señor está en medio de ella. ¿Por qué entonces ustedes se ponen por encima de la asamblea del Señor?».
4 When Moses heard this, he fell prostrate.	4 Cuando Moisés oyó esto, cayó con el rostro en tierra.
5 Then he said to Korah and to all his band, "May the LORD make known tomorrow morning who belongs to him and who is the holy one and whom he will have draw near to him! Whom he chooses, he will have draw near him.	5 Luego dijo a Coré y a todos sus secuaces: «Mañana, el Señor pondrá de manifiesto quién es el que le pertenece y quién está consagrado; y permitirá que se le acerque el que ha sido elegido por él.
6 Do this: take your censers (Korah and all his band)	6 Por eso, hagan lo siguiente: tú, Coré, y todos tus secuaces, tomen unos incensarios,
7 and put fire in them and place incense in them before the LORD tomorrow. He whom the LORD then chooses is the holy one. Enough from you Levites!"	7 pongan fuego en ellos, y mañana échenles incienso en la presencia del Señor. Aquel a quien el Señor elija será el consagrado. ¡Ustedes, hijos de Leví, se han excedido en sus atribuciones!».
8 Moses also said to Korah, "Listen to me, you Levites!	8 Luego Moisés siguió diciendo a Coré: «Escúchenme, hijos de Leví.
9 Is it too little for you that the God of Israel has singled you out from the community of Israel, to have you draw near him for the service of the LORD'S Dwelling and to stand before the community to minister for them?	9 ¿No les basta que el Señor los haya separado de toda la comunidad de Israel y los haya acercado a él, para prestar servicios en la Morada del Señor y para estar como ministros al frente de la comunidad?
10 He has allowed you and your kinsmen, the descendants of Levi, to approach him, and yet you now seek the priesthood too.	10 El Señor te promovió a ti y a todos tus hermanos, los descendientes de Leví, ¿y todavía reclaman el sacerdocio?
11 It is therefore against the LORD that you and all your band are conspiring. For what has Aaron done that you should grumble against him?"	11 En realidad, tú y tus secuaces se han confabulado contra el Señor. Porque ¿quién es Aarón para que ustedes protesten contra él?».
12 Moses summoned Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, but they answered, "We will not go.	12 Moisés manó llamar a Datán y a Abirón, hijos de Eliab. Pero ellos replicaron: «¡No iremos
13 Are you not satisfied with having led us here away from a land flowing with milk and honey, to make us perish in the desert, that you must now lord it over us?	13 ¿No te basta con habernos sacado de una tierra que mana leche y miel, para hacernos morir en el desierto, que todavía quieres dominarnos?
14 Far from bringing us to a land flowing with milk and honey, or giving us fields and vineyards for our inheritance, will you also gouge out our eyes? No, we will not go."	14 El lugar al que nos has traído no es una tierra que mana leche y miel, y no nos has dado como herencia campos y viñedos. ¿O pretendes impedir que esta gente vea? No iremos».
15 Then Moses became very angry and said to the LORD, "Pay no heed to their offering. I have never taken a single ass from them, nor have I wronged any one of them."	15 Moisés se indignó profundamente y dijo al Señor: «No aceptes su oblación. Yo no les he quitado ni un solo asno ni he perjudicado a ninguno de ellos».
16 Moses said to Korah, "You and all your band shall appear before the LORD tomorrow-you and they and Aaron too.	16 Entonces Moisés dijo a Coré: «Tú y tus secuaces comparecerán mañana delante del Señor, y también comparecerá Aarón.
17 Then each of your two hundred and fifty followers shall take his own censer, put incense in it, and offer it to the LORD; and you and Aaron, each with his own censer, shall do the same."	17 Cada uno de ustedes tomará su incensario, le pondrá incienso y lo ofrecerá al Señor: serán doscientos cincuenta incensarios en total. También tú y Aarón llevarán cada uno el suyo».
18 So they all took their censers, and laying incense on the fire they had put in them, they took their stand by the entrance of the meeting tent along with Moses and Aaron.	18 Cada uno tomó su incensario, le puso fuego y le echó incienso. Luego ocuparon sus puestos a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro, junto con Moisés y Aarón.
19 Then, when Korah had assembled all his band against them at the entrance of the meeting tent, the glory of the LORD appeared to the entire community,	19 Y una vez que Coré convocó contra ellos a toda la comunidad, a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro, la gloria del Señor se apareció a toda la comunidad,
20 and the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,	20 y el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:
21 "Stand apart from this band, that I may consume them at once."	21 «Sepárense de esta comunidad, porque los voy a exterminar en un instante».
22 But they fell prostrate and cried out, "O God, God of the spirits of all mankind, will one man's sin make you angry with the whole community?"	22 Pero ellos cayeron con el rostro en tierra y exclamaron: «Dios, tú que das el aliento a todos los vivientes, ¿te vas a irritar contra toda la comunidad cuando el que peca es uno solo?».
23 The LORD answered Moses,	23 El Señor dijo a Moisés:
24 "Speak to the community and tell them: Withdraw from the space around the Dwelling" (of Korah, Dathan and Abiram).	24 «Habla en estos términos a la comunidad: "Aléjense de los alrededores de la Morada de Coré, Datán y Abirón"».
25 Moses, followed by the elders of Israel, arose and went to Dathan and Abiram.	25 Moisés se levantó, fue adonde estaban Datán y Abirón, seguido de los ancianos de Israel,
26 Then he warned the community, "Keep away from the tents of these wicked men and do not touch anything that is theirs: otherwise you too will be swept away because of all their sins."	26 y dijo a la comunidad: «Apártense de las carpas de estos hombres perversos y no toquen nada de lo que les pertenece, porque de lo contrario también ustedes serán exterminados a causa de sus pecados».
27 When Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing at the entrances of their tents with their wives and sons and little ones,	27 Y todos se separaron de las moradas de Coré, Datán, y Abirón. Datán y Abirón, por su parte, salieron y se pusieron de pie a la entrada de sus carpas, junto con sus mujeres, sus hijos y sus pequeños.
28 Moses said, "This is how you shall know that it was the LORD who sent me to do all I have done, and that it was not I who planned it:	28 Moisés dijo: «En esto conocerán que ha sido el Señor el que me envió a hacer estas cosas, y que no es un capricho mío:
29 if these men die an ordinary death, merely suffering the fate common to all mankind, then it was not the LORD who sent me.	29 si estos hombres mueren de muerte natural y su suerte es igual a la de todos los hombres, no ha sido el Señor el que me envió.
30 But if the LORD does something entirely new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them alive down into the nether world, with all belonging to them, then you will know that these men have defied the LORD."	30 Pero si el Señor realiza algo inusitado –si la tierra abre sus fauces para tragarlos con todos sus bienes y ellos bajan vivos al Abismo– ustedes sabrán que esta gente ha despreciado al Señor».
31 No sooner had he finished saying all this than the ground beneath them split open,	31 Apenas Moisés terminó de pronunciar estas palabras, el suelo se partió debajo de sus pies,
32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their families (and all of Korah's men) and all their possessions.	32 la tierra abrió sus fauces y los tragó junto con sus familias, con toda la gente de Coré y con todos sus bienes.
33 They went down alive to the nether world with all belonging to them; the earth closed over them, and they perished from the community.	33 Ellos bajaron vivos al Abismo, con todo lo que les pertenecía. La tierra los cubrió y desaparecieron de en medio de la asamblea.
34 But all the Israelites near them fled at their shrieks, saying, "The earth might swallow us too!"	34 Al oír sus gritos, todos los israelitas que estaban cerca de ellos huyeron, diciendo: «¡Que no nos trague la tierra!».
35 So they withdrew from the space around the Dwelling (of Korah, Dathan and Abiram). And fire from the LORD came forth which consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering the incense.	35 Luego bajó fuego del Señor y consumió a los doscientos cincuenta hombres que habían ofrecido incienso.
