Daniel 7

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream as he lay in bed, and was terrified by the visions of his mind. Then he wrote down the dream; the account began:	1 El año primero de Baltasar, rey de Babilonia, Daniel tuvo un sueño y unas visiones en su imaginación, mientras se hallaba en su lecho. El escribió el sueño. Este es el comienzo del relato.
2 In the vision I saw during the night, suddenly the four winds of heaven stirred up the great sea,	2 Daniel tomó la palabra y dijo: Yo miraba en mis visiones nocturnas, y vi los cuatro vientos del cielo que agitaban el gran mar.
3 from which emerged four immense beasts, each different from the others.	3 Y cuatro animales enormes, diferentes entre sí, emergieron del mar.
4 The first was like a lion, but with eagle's wings. While I watched, the wings were plucked; it was raised from the ground to stand on two feet like a man, and given a human mind.	4 El primero era como un león y tenía alas de águila. Yo estuve mirando hasta que fueron arrancadas sus alas; él fue levantado de la tierra y puesto de pie sobre dos patas como un hombre, y le fue dado un corazón de hombre.
5 The second was like a bear; it was raised up on one side, and among the teeth in its mouth were three tusks. It was given the order, "Up, devour much flesh."	5 Luego vi otro animal, el segundo, semejante a un oso; él estaba medio erguido y tenía tres costillas en su boca, entre sus dientes. Y le hablaban así: «¡Levántate, devora carne en abundancia!».
6 After this I looked and saw another beast, like a leopard; on its back were four wings like those of a bird, and it had four heads. To this beast dominion was given.	6 Después de esto, yo estaba mirando y vi otro animal como un leopardo; tenía cuatro alas de pájaro sobre el dorso y también cuatro cabezas, y le fue dado el dominio.
7 After this, in the visions of the night I saw the fourth beast, different from all the others, terrifying, horrible, and of extraordinary strength; it had great iron teeth with which it devoured and crushed, and what was left it trampled with its feet.	7 Después de esto, yo estaba mirando en las visiones nocturnas y vi un cuarto animal, terrible, espantoso y extremadamente fuerte; tenía enormes dientes de hierro, comía, trituraba y el resto lo pisoteaba con las patas. Era diferente de todos los animales que lo habían precedido, y tenía diez cuernos.
8 I was considering the ten horns it had, when suddenly another, a little horn, sprang out of their midst, and three of the previous horns were torn away to make room for it. This horn had eyes like a man, and a mouth that spoke arrogantly.	8 Yo observaba los cuernos, y vi otro cuerno, pequeño, que se elevaba entre ellos. Tres de los cuernos anteriores fueron arrancados delante de él, y sobre este cuerno había unos ojos como de hombre y una boca que hablaba con insolencia.
9 As I watched, Thrones were set up and the Ancient One took his throne. His clothing was snow bright, and the hair on his head as white as wool; His throne was flames of fire, with wheels of burning fire.	9 Yo estuve mirando hasta que fueron colocados unos tronos y un Anciano se sentó. Su vestidura era blanca como la nieve y los cabellos de su cabeza como la lana pura; su trono, llamas de fuego, con ruedas de fuego ardiente.
10 A surging stream of fire flowed out from where he sat; Thousands upon thousands were ministering to him, and myriads upon myriads attended him. The court was convened, and the books were opened.	10 Un río de fuego brotaba y corría delante de él. Miles de millares lo servían, y centenares de miles estaban de pie en su presencia. El tribunal se sentó y fueron abiertos unos libros
11 I watched, then, from the first of the arrogant words which the horn spoke, until the beast was slain and its body thrown into the fire to be burnt up.	11 Yo miraba a causa de las insolencias que decía el cuerno: estuve mirando hasta que el animal fue muerto, y su cuerpo destrozado y entregado al ardor del fuego.
12 The other beasts, which also lost their dominion, were granted a prolongation of life for a time and a season.	12 También a los otros animales les fue retirado el dominio, pero se les permitió seguir viviendo por un momento y un tiempo.
13 As the visions during the night continued, I saw One like a son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven; When he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him,	13 Yo estaba mirando, en las visiones nocturnas, y vi que venía sobre las nubes del cielo como un Hijo de hombre;él avanzó hacia el Anciano y lo hicieron acercar hasta él.
14 He received dominion, glory, and kingship; nations and peoples of every language serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed.	14 Y le fue dado el dominio, la gloria y el reino, y lo sirvieron todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas. Su dominio es un dominio eterno que no pasará, y su reino no será destruido.
15 I, Daniel, found my spirit anguished within its sheath of flesh, and I was terrified by the visions of my mind.	15 Yo, Daniel, quedé profundamente turbado en mi espíritu, y las visiones de mi imaginación me llenaron de espanto.
16 I approached one of those present and asked him what all this meant in truth; in answer, he made known to me the meaning of the things:	16 Me acerqué a uno de los que estaban de pie y le pregunté la verdad acerca de todo aquello. El me habló y me hizo conocer la interpretación de las cosas.
17 "These four great beasts stand for four kingdoms which shall arise on the earth.	17 «Esos cuatro animales enormes son cuatro reyes que se alzarán de la tierra;
18 But the holy ones of the Most High shall receive the kingship, to possess it forever and ever."	18 y los Santos del Altísimo recibirán la realeza, y la poseerán para siempre, por los siglos de los siglos».
19 But I wished to make certain about the fourth beast, so very terrible and different from the others, devouring and crushing with its iron teeth and bronze claws, and trampling with its feet what was left;	19 Entonces quise saber la verdad acerca del cuarto animal, que era diferente de todos los demás, extremadamente horrible, y que tenía dientes de hierro y garras de bronce: el que devoraba, trituraba y pisoteaba el resto con las patas;
20 about the ten horns on its head, and the other one that sprang up, before which three horns fell; about the horn with the eyes and the mouth that spoke arrogantly, which appeared greater than its fellows.	20 y también acerca de los diez cuernos de su cabeza, y del otro cuerno que se había elevado y ante el cual habían caído tres; es decir, el cuerno que tenía ojos y una boca que hablaba con insolencia, y que parecía más grande que los otros.
21 For, as I watched, that horn made war against the holy ones and was victorious	21 Yo miraba, y este cuerno hacía la guerra a los Santos del Altísimo y prevalecía sobre ellos,
22 until the Ancient One arrived; judgment was pronounced in favor of the holy ones of the Most High, and the time came when the holy ones possessed the kingdom.	22 hasta que vino el Anciano, se hizo justicia a los Santos del Altísimo y llegó el momento en que los Santos entraron en posesión de la realeza.
23 He answered me thus: "The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, different from all the others; It shall devour the whole earth, beat it down, and crush it.	23 El habló así: «En lo que respecta al cuarto animal, habrá sobre la tierra un cuarto reino, diferente de todos los reinos:él devorará toda la tierra, la pisoteará y la triturará.
24 The ten horns shall be ten kings rising out of that kingdom; another shall rise up after them, Different from those before him, who shall lay low three kings.	24 En cuanto a los diez cuernos, de este reino surgirán diez reyes, y otro surgirá después de ellos:será diferente de los anteriores y abatirá a tres reyes.
25 He shall speak against the Most High and oppress the holy ones of the Most High, thinking to change the feast days and the law. They shall be handed over to him for a year, two years, and a half-year.	25 Hablará contra el Altísimo y maltratará a los Santos del Altísimo. Tratará de cambiar los tiempos festivos y la Ley, y los Santos serán puestos en sus manos por un tiempo, dos tiempos y la mitad de un tiempo.
26 But when the court is convened, and his power is taken away by final and absolute destruction,	26 Pero luego se sentará el tribunal, y a ese rey se le quitará el dominio, para que sea destruido y aniquilado definitivamente.
27 Then the kingship and dominion and majesty of all the kingdoms under the heavens shall be given to the holy people of the Most High, Whose kingdom shall be everlasting: all dominions shall serve and obey him."	27 Y la realeza, el dominio y la grandeza de todos los reinos bajo el cielo serán entregados al pueblo de los Santos del Altísimo. Su reino es un reino eterno, y todos los imperios lo servirán y le obedecerán».
28 The report concluded: I, Daniel, was greatly terrified by my thoughts, and my face blanched, but I kept the matter to myself.	28 Aquí termina el relato. En cuanto a mí, Daniel, mis pensamientos me llenaron de espanto y cambié de color. Y yo conservé estas cosas en mi corazón.
