1 This word of the LORD came to me:	1 Entonces me fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh en estos términos:
2 Go, cry out this message for Jerusalem to hear! I remember the devotion of your youth, how you loved me as a bride, Following me in the desert, in a land unsown.	2 Ve y grita a los oídos de Jerusalén: Así dice Yahveh: De ti recuerdo tu cariño juvenil, el amor de tu noviazgo; aquel seguirme tú por el desierto, por la tierra no sembrada.
3 Sacred to the LORD was Israel, the first fruits of his harvest; Should anyone presume to partake of them, evil would befall him, says the LORD.	3 Consagrado a Yahveh estaba Israel, primicias de su cosecha. «Quienquiera que lo coma, será reo; mal le sucederá» - oráculo de Yahveh -.
4 Listen to the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob! All you clans of the house of Israel,	4 Oíd la palabra de Yahveh, casa de Jacob, y todas las familias de la casa de Israel.
5 thus says the LORD: What fault did your fathers find in me that they withdrew from me, Went after empty idols, and became empty themselves?	5 Así dice Yahveh: ¿Qué encontraban vuestros padres en mí de torcido, que se alejaron de mi vera, y yendo en pos de la Vanidad se hicieron vanos?
6 They did not ask, "Where is the LORD who brought us up from the land of Egypt, Who led us through the desert, through a land of wastes and gullies, Through a land of drought and darkness, through a land which no one crosses, where no man dwells?"	6 En cambio no dijeron: «¿Dónde está Yahveh, que nos subió de la tierra de Egipto, que nos llevó por el desierto, por la estepa y la paramera, por tierra seca y sombría, tierra por donde nadie pasa y en donde nadie se asienta?»
7 When I brought you into the garden land to eat its goodly fruits, You entered and defiled my land, you made my heritage loathsome.	7 Luego os traje a la tierra del vergel, para comer su fruto y su bien. Llegasteis y ensuciasteis mi tierra, y pusisteis mi heredad asquerosa.
8 The priests asked not, "Where is the LORD?" Those who dealt with the law knew me not: the shepherds rebelled against me. The prophets prophesied by Baal, and went after useless idols.	8 Los sacerdotes no decían: «¿Dónde está Yahveh?»; ni los peritos de la Ley me conocían; y los pastores se rebelaron contra mí, y los profetas profetizaban por Baal, y en pos de los Inútiles andaban.
9 Therefore will I yet accuse you, says the LORD, and even your children's children I will accuse.	9 Por eso, continuaré litigando con vosotros - oráculo de Yahveh - y hasta con los hijos de vuestros hijos litigaré.
10 Pass over to the coast of the Kittim and see, send to Kedar and carefully inquire: Where has the like of this been done?	10 Porque, en efecto, pasad a las islas de los Kittim y ved, enviad a Quedar quien investigue a fondo, pensadlo bien y ved si aconteció cosa tal:
11 Does any other nation change its gods?-- yet they are not gods at all! But my people have changed their glory for useless things.	11 si las gentes cambiaron de dioses - ¡aunque aquéllos no son dioses! -. Pues mi pueblo ha trocado su Gloria por el Inútil.
12 Be amazed at this, O heavens, and shudder with sheer horror, says the LORD.	12 Pasmaos, cielos, de ello, erizaos y cobrad gran espanto - oráculo de Yahveh -.
13 Two evils have my people done: they have forsaken me, the source of living waters; They have dug themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that hold no water.	13 Doble mal ha hecho mi pueblo: a mí me dejaron, Manantial de aguas vivas, para hacerse cisternas, cisternas agrietadas, que el agua no retienen.
14 Is Israel a slave, a bondman by birth? Why then has he become booty?	14 ¿Es un esclavo Israel, o nació siervo? Pues ¿cómo es que ha servido de botín?
15 Against him lions roar full-throated cries. They have made his land a waste; his cities are charred ruins, without inhabitant.	15 Contra él rugieron leoncillos, dieron voces y dejaron su país hecho una desolación, sus ciudades incendiadas, sin habitantes.
16 Yes, the people of Memphis and Tahpanhes shave the crown of your head.	16 Hasta los hijos de Nof y de Tafnis te han rapado el cráneo.
17 Has not the forsaking of the LORD, your God, done this to you?	17 ¿No te ha sucedido esto por haber dejado a Yahveh tu Dios cuando te guiaba en tu camino?
18 And now, why go to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Nile? Why go to Assyria, to drink the waters of the Euphrates?	18 Y entonces, ¿qué cuenta te tiene encaminarte a Egipto para beber las aguas del Nilo?, o ¿qué cuenta te tiene encaminarte a Asur para beber las aguas del Río?
19 Your own wickedness chastises you, your own infidelities punish you. Know then, and see, how evil and bitter is your forsaking the LORD, your God, And showing no fear of me, says the Lord, the GOD of hosts.	19 Que te enseñe tu propio daño, que tus apostasías te escarmienten; reconoce y ve lo malo y amargo que te resulta el dejar a Yahveh tu Dios y no temblar ante mí - oráculo del Señor Yahveh Sebaot -.
20 Long ago you broke your yoke, you tore off your bonds. "I will not serve," you said. On every high hill, under every green tree, you gave yourself to harlotry.	20 Oh tú, que rompiste desde siempre el yugo y, sacudiendo las coyundas, decías: «¡No serviré!», tú, que sobre todo otero prominente y bajo todo árbol frondoso estabas yaciendo, prostituta.
21 I had planted you, a choice vine of fully tested stock; How could you turn out obnoxious to me, a spurious vine?	21 Yo te había plantado de la cepa selecta, toda entera de simiente legítima. Pues ¿cómo te has mudado en sarmiento de vid bastarda?
22 Though you scour it with soap, and use much lye, The stain of your guilt is still before me, says the Lord GOD.	22 Porque, así te blanquees con salitre y te des cantidad de lejía, se te nota la culpa en mi presencia - oráculo del Señor Yahveh -.
23 How can you say, "I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baals"? Consider your conduct in the Valley, recall what you have done: A frenzied she-camel, coursing near and far,	23 Cómo dices: «No estoy manchada; en pos de los Baales no anduve?» ¡Mira tu rastro en el Valle! Reconoce lo que has hecho, camellita liviana que trenza sus derroteros,
24 breaking away toward the desert, Snuffing the wind in her ardor-- who can restrain her lust? No beasts need tire themselves seeking her; in her month they will meet her.	24 irrumpe en el desierto y en puro celo se bebe los vientos: su estro, ¿quién lo calmará? Cualquiera que la busca la topa, ¡bien acompañada la encuentra!
25 Stop wearing out your shoes and parching your throat! But you say, "No use! no! I love these strangers, and after them I must go."	25 Guarda tu pie de la descalcez y tu garganta de la sed. Pero tú dices: «No hay remedio: a mí me gustan los extranjeros, y tras ellos he de ir».
26 As the thief is shamed when caught, so shall the house of Israel be shamed: They, their kings and their princes, their priests and their prophets;	26 Cual se avergüenza el ladrón cuando es sorprendido, así se ha avergonzado la casa de Israel: ellos, sus reyes, sus jefes, sus sacerdotes y sus profetas,
27 They who say to a piece of wood, "You are my father," and to a stone, "You gave me birth." They turn to me their backs, not their faces; yet, in their time of trouble they cry out, "Rise up and save us!"	27 los que dicen al madero: «Mi padre eres tú», y a la piedra: «Tú me diste a luz». Tras de volverme la espalda, que no la cara, al tiempo de su mal dice: «¡Levántate y sálvanos!»
28 Where are the gods you made for yourselves? Let them rise up! Will they save you in your time of trouble? For as numerous as your cities are your gods, O Judah! And as many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars you have set up for Baal.	28 Pues ¿dónde están tus dioses, los que tú mismo te hiciste? ¡Que se levanten ellos, a ver si te salvan en tiempo de desgracia! Pues cuantas son tus ciudades, otros tantos son tus dioses, Judá; (y cuantas calles cuenta Jerusalén, otros tantos altares hay de Baal).
29 How dare you still plead with me? You have all rebelled against me, says the LORD.	29 ¿Por qué os querelláis conmigo, si todos vosotros os habéis rebelado contra mí? - oráculo de Yahveh -.
30 In vain I struck your children; the correction they did not take. Your sword devoured your prophets like a ravening lion.	30 En vano golpeé a vuestros hijos, pues no aprendieron. Ha devorado vuestra espada a vuestos profetas, como el león cuando estraga.
31 You, of this generation, take note of the word of the Lord: Have I been a desert to Israel, a land of darkness? Why do my people say, "We have moved on, we will come to you no more"?	31 ¡Vaya generación la vuestra!; atended a la palabra de Yahveh: ¿Fui yo un desierto para Israel o una tierra malhadada? ¿Por qué, entonces, dice mi pueblo: «¡Bajemos! No vendremos más a ti».?
32 Does a virgin forget her jewelry, a bride her sash? Yet my people have forgotten me days without number.	32 ¿Se olvida la doncella de su aderezo, la novia de su cinta? Pues mi pueblo sí que me ha olvidado días sin número.
33 How well you pick your way when seeking love! You who, in your wickedness, have gone by ways unclean!	33 ¡Qué hermoso te parece tu camino en busca del amor! A la verdad, hasta con maldades aprendiste tus caminos.
34 You, on whose clothing there is the life-blood of the innocent, whom you found committing no burglary;	34 En tus mismas haldas se encontraban manchas de sangre de las almas de pobres inocentes: no los sorprendiste en escalo. Y con todo eso,
35 Yet withal you say, "I am innocent; at least, his anger is turned away from me." Behold, I will judge you on that word of yours, "I have not sinned."	35 dices: «Soy inocente; basta ya de ira contra mí». Pues bien, aquí me tienes para discutir contigo eso que has dicho: «No he pecado».
36 How very base you have become in changing your course! By Egypt will you be shamed, as you were shamed by Assyria.	36 ¡Cuánta ligereza la tuya para cambiar de dirección! También de Egipto te avergonzarás como te avergonzaste de Asur.
37 From there also shall you go away with hands upon your head; For the LORD has rejected those in whom you trust, with them you will have no success.	37 También de ésta saldrás con las manos en la cabeza. Porque Yahveh ha rechazado aquello en que confías, y no saldrás bien de ello.
