Jeremiah 19

1 Thus said the LORD: Go, buy a potter's earthen flask. Take along some of the elders of the people and of the priests,	1 Così disse il Signore a Geremia: "Va' a comprarti una brocca di terracotta; prendi alcuni anziani del popolo e alcuni sacerdoti con te
2 and go out toward the Valley of Ben-hinnom, at the entrance of the Potsherd Gate; there proclaim the words which I will speak to you:	2 ed esci nella valle di Ben-Hinnòn, che è all'ingresso della Porta dei cocci. Là proclamerai le parole che io ti dirò.
3 Listen to the word of the LORD, kings of Judah and citizens of Jerusalem: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I am going to bring such evil upon this place that all who hear of it will feel their ears tingle.	3 Riferirai: Ascoltate la parola del Signore, o re di Giuda e abitanti di Gerusalemme. Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Ecco io manderò su questo luogo una sventura tale che risuonerà negli orecchi di chiunque la udrà,
4 This is because they have forsaken me and alienated this place by burning in it incense to strange gods which neither they nor their fathers knew; and the kings of Judah have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.	4 poiché mi hanno abbandonato e hanno destinato ad altro questo luogo per sacrificarvi ad altri dèi, che né essi né i loro padri né i re di Giuda conoscevano. Essi hanno riempito questo luogo di sangue innocente;
5 They have built high places for Baal to immolate their sons in fire as holocausts to Baal: such a thing as I neither commanded nor spoke of, nor did it ever enter my mind.	5 hanno edificato alture a Baal per bruciare nel fuoco i loro figli come olocausti a Baal. Questo io non ho comandato, non ne ho mai parlato, non mi è mai venuto in mente.
6 Therefore, days will come, says the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth, or the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but rather, the Valley of Slaughter.	6 Perciò, ecco, verranno giorni - dice il Signore - nei quali questo luogo non si chiamerà più Tofet e valle di Ben-Hinnòn, ma piuttosto valle della Strage.
7 In this place I will foil the plan of Judah and Jerusalem; I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hand of those that seek their lives. Their corpses I will give as food to the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field.	7 Io renderò vani i piani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme in questo luogo. Li farò cadere di spada davanti ai loro nemici e per mezzo di coloro che attentano alla loro vita e darò i loro cadaveri in pasto agli uccelli dell'aria e alle bestie selvatiche.
8 I will make this city an object of amazement and derision. Because of all its wounds, every passer-by will be amazed and will catch his breath.	8 Ridurrò questa città a una desolazione e a oggetto di scherno; quanti le passeranno vicino resteranno stupiti e fischieranno davanti a tutte le sue ferite.
9 I will have them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters; they shall eat one another's flesh during the strict siege by which their enemies and those who seek their lives will confine them.	9 Farò loro mangiare la carne dei figli e la carne delle figlie; si divoreranno tra di loro durante l'assedio e l'angoscia in cui li stringeranno i nemici e quanti attentano alla loro vita.
10 And you shall break the flask in the sight of the men who went with you,	10 Tu poi, spezzerai la brocca sotto gli occhi degli uomini che saranno venuti con te
11 and say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Thus will I smash this people and this city, as one smashes a clay pot so that it cannot be repaired. And Topheth shall be a burial place, for lack of place to bury elsewhere.	11 e riferirai loro: Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Spezzerò questo popolo e questa città, così come si spezza un vaso di terracotta, che non si può più accomodare. Allora si seppellirà perfino in Tofet, perché non ci sarà più spazio per seppellire.
12 Thus I will do to this place and to its inhabitants, says the LORD; I will make this city like Topheth.	12 Così farò - dice il Signore - riguardo a questo luogo e ai suoi abitanti, rendendo questa città come Tofet.
13 And the houses of Jerusalem and the palaces of the kings of Judah shall be defiled like the place of Topheth, all the houses upon whose roofs they burnt incense to the whole host of heaven and poured out libations to strange gods.	13 Le case di Gerusalemme e le case dei re di Giuda saranno impure come il luogo di Tofet; cioè tutte le case, sui tetti delle quali essi bruciavano incenso a tutta la milizia del cielo e facevano libazioni ad altri dèi".
14 When Jeremiah returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, he stood in the court of the house of God and said to all the people:	14 Quando Geremia tornò da Tofet dove il Signore lo aveva mandato a profetizzare, si fermò nell'atrio del tempio del Signore e disse a tutto il popolo:
15 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I will surely bring upon this city all the evil with which I threatened it, because they have stiffened their necks and have not obeyed my words.	15 "Dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Ecco io manderò su questa città e su tutte le sue borgate tutto il male che le ho preannunziato, perché essi si sono intestarditi, rifiutandosi di ascoltare le mie parole".
