1 Thus said the LORD: Go, buy a potter's earthen flask. Take along some of the elders of the people and of the priests,	1 Entonces Yahveh dijo a Jeremías: Ve y compras un jarro de cerámica; tomas contigo a algunos ancianos del pueblo y algunos sacerdotes,
2 and go out toward the Valley of Ben-hinnom, at the entrance of the Potsherd Gate; there proclaim the words which I will speak to you:	2 sales al valle de Ben Hinnom, a la entrada de la puerta de las Tejoletas, y pregonas allí las palabras que voy a decirte.
3 Listen to the word of the LORD, kings of Judah and citizens of Jerusalem: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I am going to bring such evil upon this place that all who hear of it will feel their ears tingle.	3 Dirás: Oíd la palabra de Yahveh, reyes de Judá y habitantes de Jerusalén. Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: «He aquí que yo traigo sobre este lugar una desgracia, que a todo el que la oyere le zumbarán los oídos.
4 This is because they have forsaken me and alienated this place by burning in it incense to strange gods which neither they nor their fathers knew; and the kings of Judah have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.	4 Porque me han dejado, han hecho extraño este lugar y han incensado en él a otros dioses que ni ellos ni sus padres conocían. Los reyes de Judá han llenado este lugar de sangre de inocentes,
5 They have built high places for Baal to immolate their sons in fire as holocausts to Baal: such a thing as I neither commanded nor spoke of, nor did it ever enter my mind.	5 y han construido los altos de Baal para quemar a sus hijos en el fuego, en holocausto a Baal, - lo que no les mandé ni les dije ni me pasó por las mientes -.
6 Therefore, days will come, says the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth, or the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but rather, the Valley of Slaughter.	6 Por tanto, he aquí que vienen días - oráculo de Yahveh - en que no se hablará más de Tofet ni del valle de Ben Hinnom, sino del “Valle de la Matanza”.
7 In this place I will foil the plan of Judah and Jerusalem; I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hand of those that seek their lives. Their corpses I will give as food to the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field.	7 Vaciaré la prudencia de Judá y Jerusalén a causa de este lugar: les haré caer a espada ante sus enemigos por mano de los que busquen su muerte; daré sus cadáveres por comida a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra,
8 I will make this city an object of amazement and derision. Because of all its wounds, every passer-by will be amazed and will catch his breath.	8 y convertiré esta ciudad en desolación y en rechifla: todo el que pase a su vera se quedará atónito y silbará en vista de sus heridas.
9 I will have them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters; they shall eat one another's flesh during the strict siege by which their enemies and those who seek their lives will confine them.	9 Les haré comer la carne de sus hijos y la carne de sus hijas, y comerán cada uno la carne de su prójimo, en el aprieto y la estrechez con que les estrecharán sus enemigos y los que busquen su muerte».
10 And you shall break the flask in the sight of the men who went with you,	10 Luego rompes el jarro a la vista de los hombres que vayan contigo
11 and say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Thus will I smash this people and this city, as one smashes a clay pot so that it cannot be repaired. And Topheth shall be a burial place, for lack of place to bury elsewhere.	11 y les dices: Así dice Yahveh Sebaot: «Asimismo quebrantaré yo a este pueblo y a esta ciudad, como quien rompe un cacharro de alfarería, que ya no tiene arreglo. «Y se harán enterramientos en Tófet, hasta que falte sitio para enterrar.
12 Thus I will do to this place and to its inhabitants, says the LORD; I will make this city like Topheth.	12 Así haré con este lugar - oráculo de Yahveh - y con sus habitantes, hasta dejar a esta ciudad lo mismo que Tófet,
13 And the houses of Jerusalem and the palaces of the kings of Judah shall be defiled like the place of Topheth, all the houses upon whose roofs they burnt incense to the whole host of heaven and poured out libations to strange gods.	13 y que sean las casas de Jerusalén y las de los reyes de Judá como el lugar de Tófet: una inmundicia; todas las casas en cuyas azoteas incensaron a toda la tropa celeste y libaron libación a otros dioses».
14 When Jeremiah returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, he stood in the court of the house of God and said to all the people:	14 Partió Jeremías de Tófet a donde le había enviado Yahveh a profetizar y, parándose en el atrio de la Casa de Yahveh, dijo a todo el pueblo:
15 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I will surely bring upon this city all the evil with which I threatened it, because they have stiffened their necks and have not obeyed my words.	15 «Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: He aquí que yo traigo a esta ciudad y a todos sus aledaños toda la calamidad que he pronunciado contra ella, porque ha atiesado su cerviz, desoyendo mis palabras».
