Isaiah 31

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who depend upon horses: Who put their trust in chariots because of their number, and in horsemen because od their combined power, But look not to the Holy One of Israel nor seek the LORD!	1 Malheur à ceux qui descendent en Egypte pour y chercher du secours. Ils comptent sur les chevaux,ils mettent leur confiance dans les chars, car ils sont nombreux, et dans les cavaliers, car ils sont très forts. Ils nese sont pas tournés vers le Saint d'Israël, ils n'ont pas consulté Yahvé.
2 Yet he too is wise and will bring disaster; he will not turn from what he has threatened to do. He will rise up against the house of the wicked and against those who help evildoers.	2 Pourtant il est sage, lui aussi, et peut faire venir le malheur, il n'a jamais manqué à sa parole. Il selèvera contre l'engeance des méchants, contre la protection des malfaisants.
3 The Egyptians are men, not God, their horses are flesh, not spirit; When the LORD stretches forth his hand, the helper shall stumble, the one helped shall fall, and both of them shall perish together.	3 L'Egyptien est un homme et non un dieu, ses chevaux sont chair et non esprit; Yahvé étendra la main:le protecteur trébuchera, le protégé tombera, tous ensemble ils périront.
4 Thus says the LORD to me: As a lion or a lion cub growling over its prey, With a band of shepherds assembled against it, Is neither frightened by their shouts nor disturbed by their noise, So shall the LORD of hosts come down to wage war upon the mountain and hill of Zion.	4 Car ainsi m'a parlé Yahvé: Comme gronde le lion, le lionceau après sa proie, quand on fait appelcontre lui à l'ensemble des bergers, sans qu'il se laisse terroriser par leurs cris ni troubler par leur fracas, ainsidescendra Yahvé Sabaot pour guerroyer sur le mont Sion, sur sa colline.
5 Like hovering birds, so the LORD of hosts shall shield Jerusalem, To protect and deliver, to spare and rescue it.	5 Comme des oiseaux qui volent, ainsi Yahvé Sabaot protégera Jérusalem; par sa protection il lasauvera, par son soutien il la délivrera.
6 Return, O children of Israel, to him whom you have utterly deserted.	6 Revenez à celui qu'ont si profondément trahi les enfants d'Israël.
7 On that day each one of you shall spurn his sinful idols of shlver and gold, which he made with his hands.	7 Car en ce jour-là, chacun rejettera ses faux dieux d'argent et ses faux dieux d'or, qu'ont fabriqué pourvous vos mains pécheresses.
8 He shall rush past his crag in panic, and his princes shall flee in terror from his standard, Says the LORD who has a fire in Zion and a furnace in Jerusalem.	8 Assur tombera par l'épée, non celle d'un homme, il sera dévoré par l'épée, non celle d'un mortel. Ils'enfuira devant l'épée, et ses jeunes gens seront asservis.
	9 Dans sa terreur il abandonnera son rocher, et ses chefs apeurés déserteront l'étendard. Oracle deYahvé dont le feu est à Sion et la fournaise à Jérusalem.
