Isaiah 17

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Oracle on Damascus: Lo, Damascus shall cease to be a city and become a ruin;	1 Oráculo sobre Damasco, ¡Miren! damasco ya no será una ciudad, se ha convertido en un montón de ruinas,
2 Her cities shall be forever abandoned, given over to flocks to lie in undisturbed.	2 Sus poblaciones, abandonadas para siempre, serán para los rebaños: allí pacerán sin que nadie los moleste.
3 The fortress shall be lost to Ephraim and the kingdom to Damascus; The remnant of Aram shall have the same glory as the Israelites, says the LORD of hosts.	3 Efraím perderá su plaza fuerte y Damasco; la realeza. El resto de Aram tendrá la misma suerte que la gloria de los hijos de Israel –oráculo del Señor de los ejércitos–.
4 On that day The glory of Jacob shall fade, and his full body grow thin,	4 Aquel día, disminuirá a la gloria de Jacob y enflaquecerá la gordura de su cuerpo.
5 Like the reaper's mere armful of stalks when he gathers the standing grain; Or as when one gleans the ears in the Valley of Rephaim.	5 Será como cuando el segador recoge la mies y su brazo siega las espigas, como cuando se desgranan las espigas en el valle de Refaím
6 Only a scattering of grapes shall be left! As when an olive tree has been beaten, Two or three olives remain at the very top, four or five on its fruitful branches, says the LORD, the God of Israel.	6 y sólo queda un residuo; o como cuando se golpea un olivo: quedan dos o tres aceitunas en lo alto de la copa, cuatro o cinco en las ramas del árbol frutal –oráculo del Señor, Dios de Israel–.
7 On that day man shall look to his maker, his eyes turned toward the Holy One of Israel.	7 Aquel día, el hombre volverá la mirada hacia su Creador, y sus ojos mirarán al Santo de Israel.
8 He shall not look to the altars, his handiwork, nor shall he regard what his fingers have made: the sacred poles or the incense stands.	8 Ya no volverá la mirada hacia los altares que son obra de sus manos, ni mirará hacia los postes sagrados y los altares de incienso que fabricaron sus dedos.
9 On that day his strong cities shall be like those abandoned by the Hivites and Amorites When faced with the children of Israel: they shall be laid waste.	9 Aquel día, tus ciudades de refugio serán abandonadas como las de los jivitas y los amorreos delante de los hijos de Israel, y habrá una desolación.
10 For you have forgotten God, your savior, and remembered not the Rock, your strength. Therefore, though you plant your pagan plants and set out your foreign vine slips,	10 Porque tú has olvidado al Dios de tu salvación y no te has acordado de la Roca de tu refugio. Por eso plantas plantaciones deliciosas e injertas gajos extranjeros.
11 Though you make them grow the day you plant them and make your sprouts blossom on the next morning, The harvest shall disappear on the day of the grievous blow, the incurable blight.	11 El mismo día que plantas, los ves crecer, y a la mañana siguiente, ves germinar tu semilla. Pero la cosecha se pierde en un día funesto, y el dolor es incurable.
12 Ah! the roaring of many peoples that roar like the roar of the seas! The surging of nations that surge like the surging of mighty waves!	12 ¡Ah, ese rugido de pueblos numerosos, que rugen como rugen los mares! ¡Ese bramido de naciones, que braman como las aguas encrespadas.
13 But God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far away; Windswept, like chaff on the mountains, like tumbleweed in a storm.	13 El los amenaza, y huyen bien lejos, empujados como paja por el viento de las montañas, como la flor del cardo por el vendaval.
14 In the evening, they spread terror, before morning, they are gone! Such is the portion of those who despoil us, the lot of those who plunder us.	14 ¡Al atardecer, sobreviene el espanto, antes del amanecer, ya no existen más! Esta es la parte de los que nos despojan y la suerte de los que nos saquean.
