Proverbs 25

1 These also are proverbs of Solomon. The men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transmitted them.	1 Anche questi sono proverbi di Salomone, che hanno trascritto gli uomini di Ezechia, re di Giuda.
2 God has glory in what he conceals, kings have glory in what they fathom.	2 E' gloria per Dio nascondere una cosa, ma è gloria per i re penetrarla.
3 As the heavens in height, and the earth in depth, the heart of kings is unfathomable.	3 I cieli sono in alto, la terra in basso e il cuore dei re sono impenetrabili.
4 Remove the dross from silver, and it comes forth perfectly purified;	4 Togli le scorie dall'argento e ne uscirà un vaso per mezzo dell'orefice;
5 Remove the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne is made firm through righteousness.	5 togli l'empio dalla faccia del sovrano e nella giustizia si consolida il suo trono.
6 Claim no honor in the king's presence, nor occupy the place of great men;	6 Non ti gloriare davanti al re e al posto coi grandi non ti mettere;
7 For it is better that you be told, "Come up closer!" than that you be humbled before the prince.	7 perché è meglio ti si dica: "Sali qua!" che essere abbassato davanti al principe.
8 What your eyes have seen bring not forth hastily against an opponent; For what will you do later on when your neighbor puts you to shame?	8 Ciò che i tuoi occhi han visto non mostrarlo troppo in fretta nel processo; cosa farai infatti alla fine quando il tuo avversario ti avrà smentito?
9 Discuss your case with your neighbor, but another man's secret do not disclose;	9 Risolvi la tua lite col tuo prossimo, ma senza rivelare ad altri il segreto,
10 Lest, hearing it, he reproach you, and your ill repute cease not.	10 perché, sapendolo, non ti vituperi e tu ci perda la reputazione.
11 Like golden apples in silver settings are words spoken at the proper time.	11 Pomi d'oro con intarsi d'argento è una parola detta al tempo giusto;
12 Like a golden earring, or a necklace of fine gold, is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.	12 un anello d'oro o una collana d'oro fino è il rimprovero del saggio per un orecchio attento.
13 Like the coolness of snow in the heat of the harvest is a faithful messenger for the one who sends him. (He refreshes the soul of his master.)	13 Come il fresco della neve al tempo della messe è un messaggero fedele per chi l'ha inviato; egli ravviva l'anima del suo signore.
14 Like clouds and wind when no rain follows is the man who boastfully promises what he never gives.	14 Nuvole e vento e niente pioggia: tal è chi promette un regalo e non lo fa.
15 By patience is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone.	15 Con la pazienza si placa un principe e una lingua delicata spezza le ossa.
16 If you find honey, eat only what you need, lest you become glutted with it and vomit it up.	16 Hai trovato il miele: mangiane il necessario; perché tu non ti impinzi e debba vomitarlo.
17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he have more than enough of you, and hate you.	17 Trattieni il piede dalla casa del tuo prossimo, ché non si stufi di te e ti disprezzi.
18 Like a club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow, is the man who bears false witness against his neighbor.	18 Mazza, spada, freccia appuntita: l'uomo che testimonia il falso contro il prossimo.
19 Like an infected tooth or an unsteady foot is (dependence on) a faithless man in time of trouble.	19 Dente cariato e piede sciancato è il traditore nel giorno dell'angustia,
20 Like a moth in clothing, or a maggot in wood, sorrow gnaws at the human heart.	20 chi toglie il mantello in un giorno di freddo. Aceto in una piaga è cantare canzoni a un cuore afflitto.
21 If your enemy be hungry, give him food to eat, if he be thirsty, give him to drink;	21 Se il tuo nemico ha fame, dagli da mangiare e se ha sete, dagli da bere;
22 For live coals you will heap on his head, and the LORD will vindicate you.	22 così tu ammassi carboni ardenti sul suo capo e il Signore ti ricompenserà.
23 The north wind brings rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.	23 La tramontana genera la pioggia, la faccia irritata una lingua indiscreta.
24 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than in a roomy house with a quarrelsome woman.	24 E' meglio abitare sotto l'angolo di un tetto che con una donna litigiosa in una stessa casa.
25 Like cool water to one faint from thirst is good news from a far country.	25 Acqua fresca per una gola assetata: una buona notizia da una terra lontana.
26 Like a troubled fountain or a polluted spring is a just man who gives way before the wicked.	26 Una sorgente torbida e una fontana inquinata è il giusto che tentenna davanti all'empio.
27 To eat too much honey is not good; nor to seek honor after honor.	27 Mangiare troppo miele non è bene; risparmia dunque parole lusinghiere.
28 Like an open city with no defenses is the man with no check on his feelings.	28 Una città aperta senza mura: l'uomo che non sa dominare il proprio spirito.
