1 When the Gentiles round about heard that the altar had been rebuilt and the sanctuary consecrated as before, they were very angry.	1 Ora, ouvindo falar da reconstrução do altar e da restauração do templo, os povos circunvizinhos encolerizaram-se muito, e,

5 He forced them to take refuge in towers, which he besieged; he vowed their annihilation and burned down the towers along with all the persons in them.	5 Foram rechaçados em suas torres, onde ele os sitiou e os exterminou, queimando as torres com todos os que ali se achavam.

12 Come at once and rescue us from them, for many of us have fallen.	12 Vinde, pois, agora nos livrar de suas mãos, porque muitos dos nossos foram mortos.
13 All our kinsmen who were among the Tobiads have been killed; the Gentiles have carried away their wives and children and their goods, and they have slain there about a thousand men."	13 Mataram todos os nossos irmãos que se achavam na região de Tob, levaram consigo suas mulheres, seus filhos e seus bens e mataram, lá perto de cem mil homens.
14 While they were reading this letter, suddenly other messengers, in torn clothes, arrived from Galilee to deliver a similar message:	14 Quando ainda se estava lendo essa carta, eis que chegam outros da Galiléia, com as vestes em farrapos e portadores de notícias idênticas,
15 that the inhabitants of Ptolemais, Tyre, and Sidon, and the whole of Gentile Galilee had joined forces to destroy them.	15 dizendo: Congregaram-se contra nós nações de Ptolemaida, de Tiro, de Sidônia, e de toda a Galiléia das Nações, para nos destruir inteiramente.
16 When Judas and the people heard this, a great assembly convened to consider what they should do for their unfortunate kinsmen who were being attacked by enemies.	16 Logo que Judas e o povo souberam da situação, organizaram uma grande assembléia, para deliberar sobre o que se deveria fazer em favor dos irmãos atacados e provados.
17 Judas said to his brother Simon: "Choose men for yourself, and go, rescue your kinsmen in Galilee; I and my brother Jonathan will go to Gilead."	17 Disse Judas a seu irmão Simão: Escolhe homens e põe-te a caminho para livrar teus irmãos da Galiléia; Jônatas, meu irmão, e eu dirigir-nos-emos à terra de Galaad.
18 In Judea he left Joseph, son of Zechariah, and Azariah, leader of the people, with the rest of the army to guard it.	18 Para guardar a Judéia deixou ali José, filho de Zacarias, e Azarias, chefe do povo, à frente do resto do exército,

24 Judas Maccabeus and his brother Jonathan crossed the Jordan and marched for three days through the desert.	24 Por seu lado, Judas Macabeu e seu irmão Jônatas atravessaram o Jordão e andaram três dias pelo deserto.
25 There they met some Nabateans, who received them peacefully and told them all that had happened to the Jews in Gilead:	25 Encontraram os nabateus, os quais se aproximaram deles pacificamente e lhes contaram tudo aquilo que tinha acontecido a seus irmãos em Galaad,

27 "and some have been imprisoned in other cities of Gilead. 28 Thereupon Judas suddenly changed direction with his army, marched across the desert to Bozrah, and captured the city. 34 When the army of Timothy realized that it was Maccabeus, they fell back before him, and he inflicted on them a crushing defeat. 35 Then he turned toward Alema and attacked and captured it; he killed all the male population, plundered the place, and burned it down.	35 Judas voltou-se em seguida para Alema; atacou-a e conquistou-a de assalto. Matou todos os homens, tomou seus despojos e incendiou-a.

48 Then Judas sent them this peaceful message: "We wish to cross your territory in order to reach our own; no one will harm you; we will only march through." 49 So Judas ordered a proclamation to be made in the camp that everyone make an attack from the place where he was.	49 Então Judas ordenou que cada um em seu posto se dispusesse para a luta.
50 When the men of the army took up their positions, he assaulted the city all that day and night, and it was delivered to him.	50 Todos os homens do exército se prepararam, pois. Durante todo o dia e toda a noite assaltaram a cidade, e esta caiu em suas mãos.

53 and Judas kept rounding up the stragglers and encouraging the people the whole way, until he reached the land of Judah.	53 Em caminho, Judas não cessava de ajuntar os retardatários e de encorajar a multidão até que chegassem à terra de Judá.
54 They ascended Mount Zion in joy and gladness and offered holocausts, because not one of them had fallen; they had returned in safety.	54 Escalaram a montanha de Sião com alegria e regozijo e ofereceram holocaustos, por terem voltado em paz, sem que ninguém dentre eles tivesse sucumbido.
55 During the time that Judas and Jonathan were in the land of Gilead, and Simon his brother was in Galilee opposite Ptolemais,	55 Ora, enquanto Judas se achava em Galaad com Jônatas, e seu irmão Simão na Galiléia diante de Ptolemaida,
56 Joseph, son of Zechariah, and Azariah, the leaders of the army, heard about the brave deeds and the fighting that they were doing.	56 José, filho de Zacarias, e Azarias, à frente de suas tropas, souberam de seus feitos heróicos e de suas proezas.
57 They said, "Let us also make a name for ourselves by going out and fighting against the Gentiles around us."	57 Façamos também nós célebre o nosso nome, disse um para o outro, e vamos combater nações vizinhas.
58 They gave orders to the men of their army who were with them, and marched toward Jamnia.	58 Transmitiram ordens às forças, que eles tinham consigo, e foram contra Jânia.

61 It was a bad defeat for the people, because they had not obeyed Judas and his brothers, thinking that they would do brave deeds.	61 isso porque não haviam escutado Judas, supondo que mostrariam seu valor,
62 But they did not belong to the family of those men to whom it was granted to achieve Israel's salvation.	62 mas não pertenciam à raça desses homens, a quem era dado salvar Israel.

65 Then Judas and his brothers went out and attacked the sons of Esau in the country toward the south; he took Hebron and its villages, and he destroyed its strongholds and burned the towers around it.	65 Entrementes, Judas e seus irmãos partiram para combater os filhos de Esaú, que habitavam no sul. 68 Judas then turned toward Azotus in the land of the Philistines. He destroyed their altars and burned the statues of their gods; and after plundering their cities he returned to the land of Judah.	68 Judas voltou para Azot, na terra dos estrangeiros, derrubou seus altares, queimou seus ídolos, sujeitou suas cidades à pilhagem e em seguida voltou para a terra de Judá.
