1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and tell him: Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go to worship me.	1 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Va' dal faraone e digli: "Così ha detto il Signore, Dio degli Ebrei: manda via il mio popolo perché mi serva:
2 If you refuse to let them go and persist in holding them,	2 che, se tu rifiuti di mandarlo via e li trattieni ancora,
3 I warn you, the LORD will afflict all your livestock in the field--your horses, asses, camels, herds and flocks--with a very severe pestilence.	3 ecco, la mano del Signore sarà sul bestiame che tu possiedi in campagna, su cavalli, asini, cammelli, sulle mandrie e il gregge: una peste molto pesante.
4 But the LORD will distinguish between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that none belonging to the Israelites will die."	4 Il Signore farà una distinzione tra il bestiame che possiede Israele e il bestiame degli Egiziani: niente morirà di quanto appartiene ai figli d'Israele".
5 And setting a definite time, the LORD added, "Tomorrow the LORD shall do this in the land."	5 Il Signore fissò il tempo, dicendo: "Domani il Signore farà questo nel paese".
6 And on the next day the LORD did so. All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one beast belonging to the Israelites.	6 E il Signore fece questo il giorno seguente: tutto il bestiame posseduto dagli Egiziani morì, mentre delle bestie dei figli d'Israele non ne morì una.
7 But though Pharaoh's messengers informed him that not even one beast belonging to the Israelites had died, he still remained obdurate and would not let the people go.	7 Il faraone mandò a vedere: ed ecco, del bestiame d'Israele non era morto neppure un capo. Ma il cuore del faraone si indurì e non mandò via il popolo.
8 Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take a double handful of soot from a furnace, and in the presence of Pharaoh let Moses scatter it toward the sky.	8 Il Signore disse a Mosè e ad Aronne: "Prendete per voi a piene mani della fuliggine di fornace, e Mosè la getti verso il cielo agli occhi del faraone:
9 It will then turn into fine dust over the whole land of Egypt and cause festering boils on man and beast throughout the land."	9 diventerà polvere su tutto il paese d'Egitto, e produrrà sugli uomini e sugli animali delle ulcere con eruzioni di pustole in tutto il paese d'Egitto".
10 So they took soot from a furnace and stood in the presence of Pharaoh. Moses scattered it toward the sky, and it caused festering boils on man and beast.	10 Presero dunque della fuliggine di fornace, si tennero davanti al faraone: Mosè la gettò verso il cielo e diventò ulcera pustolosa con eruzione su uomini e animali.
11 The magicians could not stand in Moses' presence, for there were boils on the magicians no less than on the rest of the Egyptians.	11 I maghi non poterono stare davanti al faraone per le ulcere: perché c'erano ulcere sui maghi e su tutti gli Egiziani.
12 But the LORD made Pharaoh obstinate, and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had foretold to Moses.	12 Ma il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone e non li ascoltò, come il Signore aveva detto a Mosè.
13 Then the LORD told Moses, "Early tomorrow morning present yourself to Pharaoh and say to him: Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go to worship me,	13 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Alzati di buon mattino e mettiti davanti al faraone e digli: "Così ha detto il Signore, Dio degli Ebrei: manda via il mio popolo perché mi serva.
14 or this time I will hurl all my blows upon you and your servants and your subjects, that you may know that there is none like me anywhere on earth.	14 Poiché questa volta io manderò tutti i miei flagelli contro di te, i tuoi servi, il tuo popolo, perché tu sappia che non c'è un altro come me in tutta la terra:
15 For by now I would have stretched out my hand and struck you and your subjects with such pestilence as would wipe you from the earth.	15 che, se ti avessi steso la mia mano e avessi colpito te e il tuo popolo con la peste, saresti stato cancellato dalla terra;
16 But this is why I have spared you: to show you my power and to make my name resound throughout the earth!	16 e invece, proprio per questo, ti ho tenuto in piedi, per mostrarti la mia forza e perché si parli del mio nome su tutta la terra.
17 Will you still block the way for my people by refusing to let them go?	17 E ancora tu ti ergi contro il mio popolo per non mandarlo via:
18 I warn you, then, tomorrow at this hour I will rain down such fierce hail as there has never been in Egypt from the day the nation was founded up to the present.	18 ecco, domani a quest'ora farò cadere della grandine molto pesante, quale non ci fu mai in Egitto dal giorno della sua fondazione fino ad ora.
19 Therefore, order all your livestock and whatever else you have in the open fields to be brought to a place of safety. Whatever man or beast remains in the fields and is not brought to shelter shall die when the hail comes upon them."	19 E adesso manda al sicuro il bestiame che possiedi e tutto ciò che hai nella campagna: su tutti gli uomini e le bestie che si troveranno nella campagna e non saranno stati raccolti in casa, cadrà la grandine e moriranno".
20 Some of Pharaoh's servants feared the warning of the LORD and hurried their servants and livestock off to shelter.	20 Chi tra i servi del faraone temeva la parola del Signore fece scampare in gran fretta nelle case i propri servi e il proprio bestiame;
21 Others, however, did not take the warning of the LORD to heart and left their servants and livestock in the fields.	21 chi non diede retta alla parola del Signore lasciò nella campagna i propri servi e il proprio bestiame.
22 The LORD then said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that hail may fall upon the entire land of Egypt, on man and beast and every growing thing in the land of Egypt."	22 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Stendi la tua mano verso il cielo: ci sarà grandine in tutto il paese d'Egitto, sugli uomini, sugli animali e su tutta l'erba della campagna nel paese d'Egitto".
23 But Pharaoh, seeing that the rain and hail and thunder had ceased, sinned again: he with his servants became obdurate,	23 Mosè stese il suo bastone verso il cielo e il Signore diede tuoni e grandine, con fuoco che guizzò sulla terra, e il Signore fece cadere grandine sul paese d'Egitto.
24 and lightning constantly flashed through the hail, such fierce hail as had never been seen in the land since Egypt became a nation.	24 Vi furono grandine e lampi tra la grandine molto pesante, quale non c'era stata in tutto il paese d'Egitto da quando era diventato nazione.
25 It struck down every man and beast that was in the open throughout the land of Egypt; it beat down every growing thing and splintered every tree in the fields.	25 La grandine colpì in tutto il paese d'Egitto tutto quello che c'era nella campagna, dall'uomo all'animale; la grandine colpì tutta l'erba del campo e spezzò tutti gli alberi della campagna.
26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites dwelt, was there no hail.	26 Solo nella terra di Gosen, dove c'erano i figli d'Israele, non ci fu grandine.
27 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said to them, "I have sinned again! The LORD is just; it is I and my subjects who are at fault.	27 Il faraone mandò a chiamare Mosè ed Aronne e disse loro: "Questa volta ho peccato: il Signore è giusto, io e il mio popolo siamo colpevoli.
28 Pray to the LORD, for we have had enough of God's thunder and hail. Then I will let you go; you need stay no longer."	28 Pregate il Signore, ci sono stati troppi tuoni di Dio e grandine! Vi manderò via e non resterete più".
29 Moses replied, "As soon as I leave the city I will extend my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail. Thus you shall learn that the earth is the LORD'S.	29 Gli disse Mosè: "Quando uscirò dalla città, stenderò la mia mano verso il Signore: i tuoni cesseranno e non ci sarà più grandine, perché sappia che del Signore è la terra.
30 But you and your servants, I know, do not yet fear the LORD God."	30 Ma io so che tu e i tuoi servi non temerete ancora il Signore Dio".
31 Now the flax and the barley were ruined, because the barley was in ear and the flax in bud.	31 Il lino e l'orzo furono colpiti perché l'orzo aveva la spiga e il lino era in fiore;
32 But the wheat and the spelt were not ruined, for they grow later.	32 il grano e la spelta non furono colpiti perché sono tardivi.
33 When Moses had left Pharaoh's presence and had gone out of the city, he extended his hands to the LORD. Then the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain no longer poured down upon the earth.	33 Mosè uscì dal faraone e dalla città, stese le sue palme verso il Signore, e cessarono i tuoni e la grandine e la pioggia non cadde più sulla terra.
	34 Il faraone vide che era cessata la pioggia, la grandine e i tuoni, e continuò a peccare: indurì il suo cuore, lui e i suoi servi.
35 and in his obstinacy he would not let the Israelites go, as the LORD had foretold through Moses.	35 Il cuore del faraone si indurì e non mandò via i figli d'Israele, come il Signore aveva detto per mezzo di Mosè.
