Exodus 34

1 The LORD said to Moses, "Cut two stone tablets like the former, that I may write on them the commandments which were on the former tablets that you broke.	1 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Taille deux tables de pierre semblables aux premières, monte vers moi sur lamontagne, et j'écrirai sur les tables les paroles qui étaient sur les premières tables que tu as brisées.
2 Get ready for tomorrow morning, when you are to go up Mount Sinai and there present yourself to me on the top of the mountain.	2 Sois prêt au matin, monte dès le matin sur le mont Sinaï et attends-moi là, au sommet de lamontagne.
3 No one shall come up with you, and no one is even to be seen on any part of the mountain; even the flocks and the herds are not to go grazing toward this mountain."	3 Que personne ne monte avec toi; que personne même ne paraisse sur toute la montagne. Que mêmele bétail, petit et gros, ne paisse pas devant cette montagne."
4 Moses then cut two stone tablets like the former, and early the next morning he went up Mount Sinai as the LORD had commanded him, taking along the two stone tablets.	4 Il tailla donc deux tables de pierre, semblables aux premières, et, s'étant levé de bon matin, Moïsemonta sur le mont Sinaï, comme Yahvé le lui avait ordonné, et il prit dans sa main les deux tables de pierre.
5 Having come down in a cloud, the LORD stood with him there and proclaimed his name, "LORD."	5 Yahvé descendit dans une nuée et il se tint là avec lui. Il invoqua le nom de Yahvé.
6 Thus the LORD passed before him and cried out, "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity,	6 Yahvé passa devant lui et il cria: "Yahvé, Yahvé, Dieu de tendresse et de pitié, lent à la colère, richeen grâce et en fidélité;
7 continuing his kindness for a thousand generations, and forgiving wickedness and crime and sin; yet not declaring the guilty guiltless, but punishing children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation for their fathers' wickedness!"	7 qui garde sa grâce à des milliers, tolère faute, transgression et péché mais ne laisse rien impuni etchâtie les fautes des pères sur les enfants et les petits-enfants, jusqu'à la troisième et la quatrième génération."
8 Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship.	8 Aussitôt Moïse tomba à genoux sur le sol et se prosterna,
9 Then he said, "If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own."	9 puis il dit: "Si vraiment, Seigneur, j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, que mon Seigneur veuille bien allerau milieu de nous, bien que ce soit un peuple à la nuque raide, pardonne nos fautes et nos péchés et fais de nouston héritage."
10 "Here, then," said the LORD, "is the covenant I will make. Before the eyes of all your people I will work such marvels as have never been wrought in any nation anywhere on earth, so that this people among whom you live may see how awe-inspiring are the deeds which I, the LORD, will do at your side.	10 Il dit: "Voici que je vais conclure une alliance: devant tout ton peuple je ferai des merveilles tellesqu'il n'en a été accompli dans aucun pays ni aucune nation. Le peuple au milieu duquel tu te trouves verral'oeuvre de Yahvé, car c'est chose redoutable, ce que je vais faire avec toi.
11 But you, on your part, must keep the commandments I am giving you today. "I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.	11 Observe donc ce que je te commande aujourd'hui. Je vais chasser devant toi les Amorites, lesCananéens, les Hittites, les Perizzites, les Hivvites et les Jébuséens.
12 Take care, therefore, not to make a covenant with these inhabitants of the land that you are to enter; else they will become a snare among you.	12 Garde-toi de faire alliance avec les habitants du pays où tu vas entrer, de peur qu'ils ne constituentun piège au milieu de toi.
13 Tear down their altars; smash their sacred pillars, and cut down their sacred poles.	13 Vous démolirez leurs autels, vous mettrez leurs stèles en pièces et vous couperez leurs pieuxsacrés.
14 You shall not worship any other god, for the LORD is 'the Jealous One'; a jealous God is he.	14 Tu ne te prosterneras pas devant un autre dieu, car Yahvé a pour nom Jaloux: c'est un Dieu jaloux.
15 Do not make a covenant with the inhabitants of that land; else, when they render their wanton worship to their gods and sacrifice to them, one of them may invite you and you may partake of his sacrifice.	15 Ne fais pas alliance avec les habitants du pays, car lorsqu'ils se prostituent à leurs dieux et leuroffrent des sacrifices, ils t'inviteraient et tu mangerais de leur sacrifice,
16 Neither shall you take their daughters as wives for your sons; otherwise, when their daughters render their wanton worship to their gods, they will make your sons do the same.	16 tu prendrais de leurs filles pour tes fils, leurs filles se prostitueraient à leurs dieux et feraient seprostituer tes fils à leurs dieux.
17 "You shall not make for yourselves molten gods.	17 Tu ne te feras pas de dieu de métal fondu.
18 "You shall keep the feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days at the prescribed time in the month of Abib you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you; for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.	18 Tu observeras la fête des Azymes. Pendant sept jours tu mangeras des azymes, comme je te l'aiordonné, au temps fixé du mois d'Abib, car c'est au mois d'Abib que tu es sorti d'Egypte.
19 "To me belongs every first-born male that opens the womb among all your livestock, whether in the herd or in the flock.	19 Tout être sorti le premier du sein maternel est à moi: tout mâle, tout premier-né de ton petit ou deton gros bétail.
20 The firstling of an ass you shall redeem with one of the flock; if you do not redeem it, you must break its neck. The first-born among your sons you shall redeem. "No one shall appear before me empty-handed.	20 Les premiers ânons mis bas tu les rachèteras par une tête de petit bétail et si tu ne les rachètes pas,tu leur briseras la nuque. Tous les premiers-nés de tes fils, tu les rachèteras, et l'on ne se présentera pas devantmoi les mains vides.
21 "For six days you may work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; on that day you must rest even during the seasons of plowing and harvesting.	21 Pendant six jours tu travailleras, mais le septième jour, tu chômeras, que ce soient les labours ou lamoisson, tu chômeras.
22 "You shall keep the feast of Weeks with the first of the wheat harvest; likewise, the feast at the fruit harvest at the close of the year.	22 Tu célébreras la fête des Semaines, prémices de la moisson des blés, et la fête de la récolte auretour de l'année.
23 Three times a year all your men shall appear before the Lord, the LORD God of Israel.	23 Trois fois l'an, toute ta population mâle se présentera devant le Seigneur Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël.
24 Since I will drive out the nations before you to give you a large territory, there will be no one to covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the LORD, your God.	24 Je déposséderai les nations devant toi et j'élargirai tes frontières, et nul ne convoitera ta terre quandtu monteras te présenter devant Yahvé ton Dieu, trois fois l'an.
25 "You shall not offer me the blood of sacrifice with leavened bread, nor shall the sacrifice of the Passover feast be kept overnight for the next day.	25 Tu n'offriras pas avec du pain levé le sang de ma victime, et la victime de la fête de Pâque ne serapas gardée jusqu'au lendemain.
26 "The choicest first fruits of your soil you shall bring to the house of the LORD, your God. "You shall not boil a kid in its mother's milk."	26 Le meilleur des prémices de ton terroir, tu l'apporteras à la maison de Yahvé ton Dieu et tu ne feraspas cuire un chevreau dans le lait de sa mère."
27 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write down these words, for in accordance with them I have made a covenant with you and with Israel."	27 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Mets par écrit ces paroles car selon ces clauses, j'ai conclu mon alliance avectoi et avec Israël."
28 So Moses stayed there with the LORD for forty days and forty nights, without eating any food or drinking any water, and he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.	28 Moïse demeura là, avec Yahvé, 40 jours et 40 nuits. Il ne mangea ni ne but, et il écrivit sur lestables les paroles de l'alliance, les dix paroles.
29 As Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the commandments in his hands, he did not know that the skin of his face had become radiant while he conversed with the LORD.	29 Lorsque Moïse redescendit de la montagne du Sinaï, les deux tables du Témoignage étaient dans lamain de Moïse quand il descendit de la montagne, et Moïse ne savait pas que la peau de son visage rayonnaitparce qu'il avait parlé avec lui.
30 When Aaron, then, and the other Israelites saw Moses and noticed how radiant the skin of his face had become, they were afraid to come near him.	30 Aaron et tous les Israélites virent Moïse, et voici que la peau de son visage rayonnait, et ils avaientpeur de l'approcher.
31 Only after Moses called to them did Aaron and all the rulers of the community come back to him. Moses then spoke to them.	31 Moïse les appela; Aaron et tous les chefs de la communauté revinrent alors vers lui, et Moïse leurparla.
32 Later on, all the Israelites came up to him, and he enjoined on them all that the LORD had told him on Mount Sinai.	32 Ensuite tous les Israélites s'approchèrent, et il leur ordonna tout ce dont Yahvé avait parlé sur lemont Sinaï.
33 When he finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.	33 Quand Moïse eut fini de leur parler, il mit un voile sur son visage.
34 Whenever Moses entered the presence of the LORD to converse with him, he removed the veil until he came out again. On coming out, he would tell the Israelites all that had been commanded.	34 Lorsque Moïse entrait devant Yahvé pour parler avec lui, il ôtait le voile jusqu'à sa sortie. Ensortant, il disait aux Israélites ce qui lui avait été ordonné,
35 Then the Israelites would see that the skin of Moses' face was radiant; so he would again put the veil over his face until he went in to converse with the LORD.	35 et les Israélites voyaient le visage de Moïse rayonner. Puis Moïse remettait le voile sur son visage,jusqu'à ce qu'il entrât pour parler avec lui.
