NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: I will sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant; horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.1 Tunc cecinit Moyses et filii Israël carmen hoc Domino, et dixerunt : Cantemus Domino : gloriose enim magnificatus est,
equum et ascensorem dejecit in mare.
2 My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior. He is my God, I praise him; the God of my father, I extol him.2 Fortitudo mea, et laus mea Dominus,
et factus est mihi in salutem :
iste Deus meus, et glorificabo eum :
Deus patris mei, et exaltabo eum.
3 The LORD is a warrior, LORD is his name!3 Dominus quasi vir pugnator,
Omnipotens nomen ejus,
4 Pharaoh's chariots and army he hurled into the sea; the elite of his officers were submerged in the Red Sea.4 currus Pharaonis et exercitum ejus projecit in mare :
electi principes ejus submersi sunt in mari Rubro.
5 The flood waters covered them, they sank into the depths like a stone.5 Abyssi operuerunt eos ;
descenderunt in profundum quasi lapis.
6 Your right hand, O LORD, magnificent in power, your right hand, O LORD, has shattered the enemy.6 Dextera tua, Domine, magnificata est in fortitudine :
dextera tua, Domine, percussit inimicum.
7 In your great majesty you overthrew your adversaries; you loosed your wrath to consume them like stubble.7 Et in multitudine gloriæ tuæ deposuisti adversarios tuos :
misisti iram tuam, quæ devoravit eos sicut stipulam.
8 At a breath of your anger the waters piled up, the flowing waters stood like a mound, the flood waters congealed in the midst of the sea.8 Et in spiritu furoris tui congregatæ sunt aquæ :
stetit unda fluens, congregata sunt abyssi in medio mari.
9 The enemy boasted, "I will pursue and overtake them; I will divide the spoils and have my fill of them; I will draw my sword; my hand shall despoil them!"9 Dixit inimicus : Persequar et comprehendam,
dividam spolia, implebitur anima mea :
evaginabo gladium meum, interficiet eos manus mea.
10 When your wind blew, the sea covered them; like lead they sank in the mighty waters.10 Flavit spiritus tuus, et operuit eos mare :
submersi sunt quasi plumbum in aquis vehementibus.
11 Who is like to you among the gods, O LORD? Who is like to you, magnificent in holiness? O terrible in renown, worker of wonders,11 Quis similis tui in fortibus, Domine ?
quis similis tui, magnificus in sanctitate,
terribilis atque laudabilis, faciens mirabilia ?
12 when you stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them!12 Extendisti manum tuam, et devoravit eos terra.
13 In your mercy you led the people you redeemed; in your strength you guided them to your holy dwelling.13 Dux fuisti in misericordia tua populo quem redemisti :
et portasti eum in fortitudine tua, ad habitaculum sanctum tuum.
14 The nations heard and quaked; anguish gripped the dwellers in Philistia.14 Ascenderunt populi, et irati sunt :
dolores obtinuerunt habitatores Philisthiim.
15 Then were the princes of Edom dismayed; trembling seized the chieftains of Moab; All the dwellers in Canaan melted away;15 Tunc conturbati sunt principes Edom,
robustos Moab obtinuit tremor :
obriguerunt omnes habitatores Chanaan.
16 terror and dread fell upon them. By the might of your arm they were frozen like stone, while your people, O LORD, passed over, while the people you had made your own passed over.16 Irruat super eos formido et pavor, in magnitudine brachii tui :
fiant immobiles quasi lapis,
donec pertranseat populus tuus, Domine,
donec pertranseat populus tuus iste, quem possedisti.
17 And you brought them in and planted them on the mountain of your inheritance-- the place where you made your seat, O LORD, the sanctuary, O LORD, which your hands established.17 Introduces eos, et plantabis in monte hæreditatis tuæ,
firmissimo habitaculo tuo quod operatus es, Domine :
sanctuarium tuum, Domine, quod firmaverunt manus tuæ.
18 The LORD shall reign forever and ever.18 Dominus regnabit in æternum et ultra.
19 They sang thus because Pharaoh's horses and chariots and charioteers had gone into the sea, and the LORD made the waters of the sea flow back upon them, though the Israelites had marched on dry land through the midst of the sea.19 Ingressus est enim eques Pharao
cum curribus et equitibus ejus in mare :
et reduxit super eos Dominus
aquas maris :
filii autem Israël ambulaverunt per siccum in medio ejus.
20 The prophetess Miriam, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, while all the women went out after her with tambourines, dancing;20 Sumpsit ergo Maria prophetissa, soror Aaron, tympanum in manu sua : egressæque sunt omnes mulieres post eam cum tympanis et choris,
21 and she led them in the refrain: Sing to the LORD, for he is gloriously triumphant; horse and chariot he has cast into the sea.21 quibus præcinebat, dicens : Cantemus Domino, gloriose enim magnificatus est :
equum et ascensorem ejus dejecit in mare.

22 Then Moses led Israel forward from the Red Sea, and they marched out to the desert of Shur. After traveling for three days through the desert without finding water,22 Tulit autem Moyses Israël de mari Rubro, et egressi sunt in desertum Sur : ambulaveruntque tribus diebus per solitudinem, et non inveniebant aquam.
23 they arrived at Marah, where they could not drink the water, because it was too bitter. Hence this place was called Marah.23 Et venerunt in Mara, nec poterant bibere aquas de Mara, eo quod essent amaræ : unde et congruum loco nomen imposuit, vocans illum Mara, id est, amaritudinem.
24 As the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink?"24 Et murmuravit populus contra Moysen, dicens : Quid bibemus ?
25 he appealed to the LORD, who pointed out to him a certain piece of wood. When he threw this into the water, the water became fresh. It was here that the LORD, in making rules and regulations for them, put them to the test.25 At ille clamavit ad Dominum, qui ostendit ei lignum : quod cum misisset in aquas, in dulcedinem versæ sunt : ibi constituit ei præcepta, atque judicia, et ibi tentavit eum,
26 "If you really listen to the voice of the LORD, your God," he told them, "and do what is right in his eyes: if you heed his commandments and keep all his precepts, I will not afflict you with any of the diseases with which I afflicted the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer."26 dicens : Si audieris vocem Domini Dei tui, et quod rectum est coram eo feceris, et obedieris mandatis ejus, custodierisque omnia præcepta illius, cunctum languorem, quem posui in Ægypto, non inducam super te : ego enim Dominus sanator tuus.
27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.27 Venerunt autem in Elim filii Israël, ubi erant duodecim fontes aquarum, et septuaginta palmæ : et castrametati sunt juxta aquas.
