2 Chronicles 15

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Upon Azariah, son of Oded, came the spirit of God.	1 L'esprit de Dieu vint sur Azaryahu, fils d'Oded,
2 He went forth to meet Asa and said to him: "Hear me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you when you are with him, and if you seek him he will be present to you; but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.	2 qui sortit au-devant d'Asa. Il lui dit: "Asa, et vous tous, de Juda et de Benjamin, écoutez-moi!Yahvé est avec vous quand vous êtes avec lui. Quand vous le recherchez il se laisse trouver par vous, quandvous l'abandonnez il vous abandonne.
3 For a long time Israel had no true God, no priest-teacher and no law,	3 Israël passera bien des jours sans Dieu fidèle, sans prêtre pour l'enseigner, et sans loi;
4 but when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was present to them.	4 mais dans sa détresse il reviendra à Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, il le recherchera et Yahvé selaissera trouver par lui.
5 In that former time there was no peace for anyone to go or come, but there were many terrors upon the inhabitants of the lands.	5 En ce temps-là, aucun adulte ne connaîtra la paix, mais des tribulations multiples pèserontsur tous les habitants du pays.
6 Nation crushed nation and city crushed city, for God destroyed them by every kind of adversity.	6 Les nations s'écraseront l'une contre l'autre, les villes l'une contre l'autre, car Dieu lesfrappera par toutes sortes de détresses.
7 But as for you, be strong and do not relax, for your work shall be rewarded."	7 Mais vous, soyez fermes et que vos mains ne faiblissent point, car vos actions auront leurrécompense."
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy (Oded the prophet), he was encouraged to remove the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had taken in the highlands of Ephraim, and to restore the altar of the LORD which was before the vestibule of the LORD.	8 Quand Asa entendit ces paroles et cette prophétie, il se décida à faire disparaître les horriblesidoles de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin et des villes qu'il avait conquises dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, puisil remit en état l'autel de Yahvé qui se trouvait devant le Vestibule de Yahvé.
9 Then he convened all Judah and Benjamin, together with those of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who sojourned with them; for many had fled to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD, his God, was with him.	9 Il réunit tout Juda et Benjamin, ainsi que les Ephraïmites, les Manassites et les Siméonitesqui séjournaient avec eux, car beaucoup d'Israélites s'étaient ralliés à Asa en voyant que Yahvé, son Dieu, étaitavec lui.
10 They gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 Le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d'Asa, ils se réunirent à Jérusalem.
11 and sacrificed to the LORD at that time seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep of the booty they had brought.	11 Ils offrirent en sacrifice à Yahvé, ce jour-là, une part du butin qu'ils rapportaient, 700 boeufset 7.000 moutons.
12 They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul;	12 Ils s'engagèrent par une alliance à chercher Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur coeuret de toute leur âme;
13 and everyone who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.	13 quiconque ne chercherait pas Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, serait mis à mort, grand ou petit, hommeou femme.
14 They swore to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.	14 Ils prêtèrent serment à Yahvé à voix haute et par acclamation, au son des trompettes et descors;
15 All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn with their whole heart and sought him with complete desire, so that he was present to them. And the LORD gave them rest on every side.	15 tous les Judéens furent joyeux de ce serment qu'ils avaient prêté de tout leur coeur. C'est deplein gré qu'ils cherchèrent Yahvé. Aussi se laissa-t-il trouver par eux et leur donna-t-il la tranquillité sur toutesleurs frontières.
16 Maacah, the mother of King Asa, he deposed as queen mother because she had made an outrageous object for Asherah; Asa cut this down, smashed it, and burnt it in the Kidron Valley.	16 Même Maaka, grand-mère du roi Asa, se vit retirer par lui la dignité de Grande Dame, parcequ'elle avait fait une horreur pour Ashéra; Asa abattit son horreur, la réduisit en poudre et la brûla dans la valléedu Cédron.
17 Although the high places did not disappear from Israel, yet Asa's heart was undivided as long as he lived.	17 Les hauts lieux ne disparurent pas d'Israël; pourtant le coeur d'Asa resta intègre toute sa vie.
18 He brought into the house of God his father's votive offerings and his own: silver, gold, and various utensils.	18 Il déposa dans le Temple de Dieu les saintes offrandes de son père et ses propres offrandes,de l'argent, de l'or et du mobilier.
19 There was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.	19 Il n'y eut point de guerre jusqu'à la trente-cinquième année du règne d'Asa.
