1 Upon Azariah, son of Oded, came the spirit of God.	1 L’Esprit de Dieu s’empara d’Azarias, fils d’Oded.
2 He went forth to meet Asa and said to him: "Hear me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you when you are with him, and if you seek him he will be present to you; but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.	2 Il sortit au-devant d’Aza et lui dit: “Aza et vous tous, gens de Juda et de Benjamin, écoutez-moi! Yahvé est avec vous quand vous êtes avec lui. Si vous le recherchez, il se laissera trouver par vous, mais si vous l’abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.
3 For a long time Israel had no true God, no priest-teacher and no law,	3 Pendant de longs jours Israël n’avait ni Dieu véritable, ni prêtre pour enseigner, ni Loi.
4 but when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was present to them.	4 Mais dans sa misère il est revenu vers Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël: ils l’ont cherché et il s’est laissé trouver par eux.
5 In that former time there was no peace for anyone to go or come, but there were many terrors upon the inhabitants of the lands.	5 En ce temps-là il n’y avait pas de sécurité pour voyager, car tous les habitants du pays vivaient sous la menace de la violence.
6 Nation crushed nation and city crushed city, for God destroyed them by every kind of adversity.	6 On se battait nation contre nation, ville contre ville, et Dieu les frappait de toutes sortes de malheurs.
7 But as for you, be strong and do not relax, for your work shall be rewarded."	7 Mais vous, tenez bon! Que vos mains ne faiblissent pas, votre peine aura sa récompense.”
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy (Oded the prophet), he was encouraged to remove the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had taken in the highlands of Ephraim, and to restore the altar of the LORD which was before the vestibule of the LORD.	8 En entendant ces paroles et cette prophétie, Aza se décida à enlever les idoles de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin, et dans les villes qu’il avait prises dans la montagne d’Éphraïm. Il restaura l’autel de Yahvé qui se trouvait devant le Vestibule de Yahvé.
9 Then he convened all Judah and Benjamin, together with those of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who sojourned with them; for many had fled to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD, his God, was with him.	9 Puis il rassembla tout Juda et Benjamin, et les gens d’Éphraïm, de Manassé et de Siméon qui habitaient au milieu d’eux, car des Israélites étaient passés en grand nombre de son côté quand ils avaient vu que Yahvé, son Dieu, était avec lui.
10 They gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 Le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d’Aza, ils se rassemblèrent à Jérusalem
11 and sacrificed to the LORD at that time seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep of the booty they had brought.	11 et ils offrirent des sacrifices à Yahvé ce jour-là (700 bœufs et 7 000 moutons pris sur le butin qu’ils avaient ramené).
12 They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul;	12 Ils s’engagèrent par une alliance à rechercher Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme.
13 and everyone who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.	13 Si quelqu’un, petit ou grand, homme ou femme, ne recherchait pas Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, il serait mis à mort.
14 They swore to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.	14 Ils prêtèrent serment à Yahvé à haute voix et avec des acclamations, au son des trompettes et des cors.
15 All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn with their whole heart and sought him with complete desire, so that he was present to them. And the LORD gave them rest on every side.	15 Tous les Judéens se réjouirent de ce serment, car ils l’avaient prêté de tout leur cœur et ils cherchaient Dieu sincèrement, c’est pourquoi Yahvé se laissa trouver par eux et leur accorda la paix de tous côtés.
16 Maacah, the mother of King Asa, he deposed as queen mother because she had made an outrageous object for Asherah; Asa cut this down, smashed it, and burnt it in the Kidron Valley.	16 Le roi Aza retira même la dignité de Grande Dame à sa grand-mère Maaka parce qu’elle avait fait une idole en l’honneur d’Ashéra; Aza brisa cette idole, la réduisit en poudre et la brûla dans la vallée du Cédron.
17 Although the high places did not disappear from Israel, yet Asa's heart was undivided as long as he lived.	17 Les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas d’Israël; mais durant toute sa vie Aza s’attacha à Yahvé de tout son cœur.
18 He brought into the house of God his father's votive offerings and his own: silver, gold, and various utensils.	18 Il fit porter dans la Maison de Dieu l’argent, l’or et le mobilier que son père et lui-même avaient consacrés.
19 There was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.	19 Il n’y eut pas de guerre jusqu’à la trente-cinquième année du règne d’Aza.
