1 In the twenty-third year of Joash, son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, began his seventeen-year reign over Israel in Samaria.	1 En el año veintitrés de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, sobre Israel, en Samaría; reinó diecisiete años.
2 He did evil in the LORD'S sight, conducting himself like Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and not renouncing the sin he had caused Israel to commit.	2 Hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh y anduvo tras los pecados con que Jeroboam hijo de Nebat, hizo pecar a Israel, sin apartarse de ellos.
3 The LORD was angry with Israel and for a long time left them in the power of Hazael, king of Aram, and of Ben-hadad, son of Hazael.	3 Se encendió la ira de Yahveh contra los israelitas y los entregó en manos de Jazael, rey de Aram, y en manos de Jazael, rey de Aram, y en manos de Ben Hadad, hijo de Jazael, todo aquel tiempo.
4 Then Jehoahaz entreated the LORD, who heard him, since he saw the oppression to which the king of Aram had subjected Israel.	4 Joacaz aplacó el rostro de Yahveh y Yahveh le escuchó porque había visto la opresión de Israel, pues el rey de Aram los oprimía.
5 So the LORD gave Israel a savior, and the Israelites, freed from the power of Aram, dwelt in their own homes as formerly.	5 Concedió Yahveh a Israel un liberador que lo sacó de bajo la mano de Aram, pudiendo habitar los hijos de Israel en sus tiendas como antes.
6 Nevertheless, they did not desist from the sins which the house of Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit, but persisted in them. The sacred pole also remained standing in Samaria.	6 Pero no se apartaron de los pecados con que Jeroboam había hecho pecar a Israel, sino que anduvieron por ellos y el cipo siguió en pie en Samaría.
7 No soldiers were left to Jehoahaz, except fifty horsemen with ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, since the king of Aram had destroyed them and trampled them like dust.	7 Pero no le quedaron a Joacaz como tropas sino cincuenta jinetes, diez carros y 10.000 infantes, pues el rey de Aram los había exterminado y reducido a polvo de la tierra.
8 The rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, with all his valor and accomplishments, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	8 El resto de los hechos de Joacaz, todo cuanto hizo y su bravura ¿no está escrito en el libro de los Anales de los reyes de Israel?
9 Jehoahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. His son Joash succeeded him as king.	9 Se acostó Joacaz con sus padres y lo sepultaron en Samaría. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Joás.
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash, king of Judah, Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, began his sixteen-year reign over Israel in Samaria.	10 En el año 37 de Joás, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Joás, hijo de Joacaz, sobre Israel, en Samaría; reinó dieciséis años.
11 He did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not desist from any of the sins which Jeroboam, son of Nebat, had caused Israel to commit, but persisted in them.	11 Hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh, no se apartó de ninguno de los pecados con que Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, hizo pecar a Israel, sino que anduvo por ellos.
12 (The rest of the acts of Joash, the valor with which he fought against Amaziah, king of Judah, and all his accomplishments, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	12 El resto de los hechos de Joás, todo cuanto hizo, su bravura y cómo combatió contra Amasías, rey de Judá ¿no está escrito en el libro de los Anales de los reyes de Israel?
13 Joash rested with his ancestors, and Jeroboam occupied the throne. Joash was buried with the kings of Israel in Samaria.)	13 Se acostó Joás con sus padres y Jeroboam ocupó su trono. Fue sepultado Joás en Samaría, junto a los reyes de Israel.
14 When Elisha was suffering from the sickness of which he was to die, King Joash of Israel went down to visit him. "My father, my father!" he exclaimed, weeping over him. "Israel's chariots and horsemen!"	14 Cuando Eliseo enfermó de la enfermedad de que murió, bajó donde él Joás, rey de Israel, y lloró sobre su rostro diciendo: «¡Padre mío, padre mío, carro y caballos de Israel!»
15 "Take a bow and some arrows," Elisha said to him. When he had done so,	15 Eliseo le dijo: «Toma un arco y flechas». El se hizo con un arco y flechas.
16 Elisha said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow." As the king held the bow, Elisha placed his hands over the king's hands	16 Dijo al rey de Israel: «Pon tu mano sobre el arco»; puso su mano. Entonces Eliseo colocó sus manos sobre las manos del rey
17 and said, "Open the window toward the east." He opened it. Elisha said, "Shoot," and he shot. The prophet exclaimed, "The LORD'S arrow of victory! The arrow of victory over Aram! You will completely conquer Aram at Aphec."	17 y dijo: «Abre la ventana hacia Oriente». El la abrió. Dijo Eliseo: «¡Tira!» El tiró. Dijo Eliseo: «Flecha de victoria de Yahveh, flecha de victoria contra Aram. Batirás a Aram en Afeq hasta el exterminio».
18 Then he said to the king of Israel, "Take the arrows," which he did. Elisha said to him, "Strike the ground!" He struck the ground three times and stopped.	18 Añadió: «Toma las flechas». El las tomó. Eliseo dijo al rey: «Hiere la tierra». La hirió tres veces y se detuvó.
19 Angry with him, the man of God said: "You should have struck five or six times; you would have defeated Aram completely. Now, you will defeat Aram only three times."	19 El hombre de Dios se irritó contra él y le dijo: «Tenías que haber herido cinco o seis veces y entonces hubieras batido a Aram hasta el exterminio, pero ahora lo batirás sólo tres veces».
20 Elisha died and was buried. At the time, bands of Moabites used to raid the land each year.	20 Eliseo murió y le sepultaron. Las bandas de Moab hacían incursiones todos los años.
21 Once some people were burying a man, when suddenly they spied such a raiding band. So they cast the dead man into the grave of Elisha, and everyone went off. But when the man came in contact with the bones of Elisha, he came back to life and rose to his feet.	21 Estaban unos sepultando un hombre cuando vieron la banda y, arrojando al hombre en el sepulcro de Eliseo, se fueron. Tocó el hombre los huesos de Eliseo, cobró vida y se puso en pie.
22 King Hazael of Aram oppressed Israel during the entire reign of Jehoahaz.	22 Jazael, rey de Aram, había oprimido a Israel todos las días de Joacaz.
23 But the LORD was merciful with Israel and looked on them with compassion because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was unwilling to destroy them or to cast them out from his presence.	23 Pero Yahveh tuvo piedad y se compadeció de ellos volviéndose a ellos a causa de su alianza con Abraham, Isaac y Jacob y no quiso aniquilarlos ni echarlos lejos de su rostro.
24 So when King Hazael of Aram died and his son Ben-hadad succeeded him as king,	24 Murió Jazael, rey de Aram, y reinó en su lugar su hijo Ben Hadad.
25 Joash, son of Jehoahaz, took back from Ben-hadad, son of Hazael, the cities which Hazael had taken in battle from his father Jehoahaz. Joash defeated Ben-hadad three times, and thus recovered the cities of Israel.	25 Entonces Joás, hijo de Joacaz, volvió a tomar de mano de Ben Hadad, hijo de Jazael, las ciudades que había tomado de mano de Joacaz su padre, por las armas. Joás le batió tres veces y recobró las ciudades de Israel.
