1 פולוס שליח ישוע המשיח כמצות האלהים מושיענו והאדון ישוע המשיח תקותנו	1 Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus appointed by the command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus ourhope,
2 אל טימותיוס בנו האמתי באמונה חסד ורחמים ושלום מאת אלהים אבינו והמשיח ישוע אדנינו	2 to Timothy, true child of mine in the faith. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from ChristJesus our Lord.
3 הנה בלכתי למקדוניא בקשתי ממך לשבת באפסוס למען תזהיר מקצת אנשים שלא יורו תורה זרה	3 When I was setting out for Macedonia I urged you to stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not tospread wrong teaching
4 ולא ישימו לבם להגדות וללמודי תולדות אין קץ המביאים יותר לשאלות מלבנות בית אלהים באמונה	4 or to give attention to myths and unending genealogies; these things only foster doubts instead offurthering God's plan which is founded on faith.
5 כי תכלית המצוה היא האהבה בלב טהור וברוח טובה ובאמונה לא צבועה	5 The final goal at which this instruction aims is love, issuing from a pure heart, a clear conscience and asincere faith.
6 יש אשר תעו ממנה ויפנו אחרי למודי תהו	6 Some people have missed the way to these things and turned to empty speculation,
7 בחשבם להיות מורי תורה ואינם מבינים מה הם אמרים ומה הם מחליטים	7 trying to be teachers of the Law; but they understand neither the words they use nor the matters aboutwhich they make such strong assertions.
8 אבל ידענו כי התורה טובה היא אם יתנהג בה האדם כתורה	8 We are wel aware that the Law is good, but only provided it is used legitimately,
9 בדעתו זאת כי חק לא הושם בעבור הצדיק אלא בעבור הסוררים והמרדים הרשעים והחטאים עשי זמה ונבלה מכי אב ומכי אם ומרצחים	9 on the understanding that laws are not framed for people who are upright. On the contrary, they are forcriminals and the insubordinate, for the irreligious and the wicked, for the sacrilegious and the godless; they arefor people who kil their fathers or mothers and for murderers,
10 וזנים ושכבים את זכר וגנבי נפש וכזבים ונשבעים לשקר וכל מעשה הפך מן הלקח הבריא	10 for the promiscuous, homosexuals, kidnappers, for liars and for perjurers -- and for everything else thatis contrary to the sound teaching
11 כפי בשורת כבוד האל המברך אשר פקדה עלי	11 that accords with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, the gospel that was entrusted to me.
12 והנני מודה לישוע המשיח אדנינו המאזרני חיל כי חשבני נאמן וישימני למשרת לו	12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength. By cal ing me into his service he has judgedme trustworthy,
13 אתי אשר מלפנים הייתי מגדף ומרדף ומחרף אבל רחמתי כי עשיתי מבלי דעת באין אמונה	13 even though I used to be a blasphemer and a persecutor and contemptuous. Mercy, however, wasshown me, because while I lacked faith I acted in ignorance;
14 ויגדל עלי במאד מאד חסד אדנינו עם האמונה והאהבה במשיח ישוע	14 but the grace of our Lord filled me with faith and with the love that is in Christ Jesus.
15 נאמן הדבר וראוי להתקבל על כל כי המשיח ישוע בא לעולם להושיע את החטאים אשר אנכי הגדול בהם	15 Here is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt: that Christ Jesus came into the worldto save sinners. I myself am the greatest of them;
16 ובעבור זאת רחמתי למען אשר יראה ישוע המשיח בי בראשונה את כל ארך רוחו להיותי למופת לכל אשר יבאו להאמין בו לחיי עולם	16 and if mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the leading exampleof his inexhaustible patience for al the other people who were later to trust in him for eternal life.
17 ולמלך עולמים לאלהים הקים לעד והנעלם מעין והחכם לבדו לו הכבוד וההדר לעולמי עולמים אמן	17 To the eternal King, the undying, invisible and only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
18 את המצוה הזאת אני מצוך בני טימותיוס כפי הנבואות הקדמות עליך שתלחם לפיהן המלחמה הטובה	18 Timothy, my son, these are the instructions that I am giving you, in accordance with the words oncespoken over you by the prophets, so that in their light you may fight like a good soldier
19 לאחז באמונה וברוח הטובה אשר יש מאסים בה ותשבר אנית אמונתם	19 with faith and a good conscience for your weapons. Some people have put conscience aside andwrecked their faith in consequence.
20 ומהם הומניוס ואלכסנדר אשר מסרתים לשטן למען יוסרו לבלתי גדף עוד	20 I mean men like Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they may learnnot to be blasphemous.
