1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.	1 Dann sah ich einen neuen Himmel und eine neue Erde; denn der erste Himmel und die erste Erde waren verschwunden, und auch das Meer ist nicht mehr da.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.	2 Und ich sah die heilige Stadt, ein neues Jerusalem, aus dem Himmel herabkommen von Gott her, ausgestattet wie eine für ihren Bräutigam geschmückte Braut.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.	3 Dabei hörte ich eine laute Stimme aus dem Himmel rufen: »Siehe da, die Hütte (oder: das Zelt = die Wohnstatt) Gottes ist bei den Menschen! Und er wird bei ihnen wohnen, und sie werden sein Volk sein; ja, Gott selbst wird unter ihnen sein
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.	4 und wird alle Tränen aus ihren Augen abwischen, und der Tod wird nicht mehr sein, und keine Trauer, kein Klaggeschrei und kein Schmerz wird mehr sein; denn das Erste ist vergangen.«
5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.	5 Da sagte der auf dem Thron Sitzende: »Siehe, ich mache alles neu!« Dann fuhr er fort: »Schreibe! Denn diese Worte sind zuverlässig und gewiß!«
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.	6 Weiter sagte er zu mir: »Es ist geschehen. Ich bin das A und das O (1,8), der Anfang und das Ende; ich will dem Dürstenden aus der Quelle des Lebenswassers umsonst (zu trinken) geben.
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.	7 Wer da überwindet, soll dieses erben (= zu eigen erhalten), und ich will sein Gott sein, und er soll mein Sohn sein.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.	8 Dagegen den Feigen (= den Verzagten) und Ungläubigen (oder: Treulosen), den Unreinen und Mördern, den Unzüchtigen und Zauberern (oder: Giftmischern), den Götzendienern und allen Lügnern soll ihr Teil in dem See werden, der mit Feuer und Schwefel brennt: dies ist der zweite Tod.«
9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.	9 Da kam einer von den sieben Engeln, welche die sieben Schalen (gehabt) hatten, die mit den sieben letzten Plagen gefüllt waren, und richtete die Worte an mich: »Komm, ich will dir die Braut, das Weib des Lammes, zeigen!«
10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,	10 Hierauf entrückte er mich im Geist (1,10) auf einen großen, hohen Berg und zeigte mir die heilige Stadt Jerusalem, wie sie aus dem Himmel herabkam von Gott her,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;	11 geschmückt mit der Herrlichkeit Gottes. Ihr Lichtglanz war wie der kostbarste Edelstein, wie ein kristalleuchtender Jaspis.
12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:	12 Sie hatte eine große, hohe Mauer mit zwölf Toren darin und auf den Toren zwölf Engel (als Wächter); und Namen waren darangeschrieben, nämlich die Namen der zwölf Stämme der Israeliten;
13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.	13 drei Tore lagen nach Osten, drei nach Norden, drei nach Süden und drei nach Westen.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.	14 Die Mauer der Stadt hatte zwölf Grundsteine (oder: Steinlagen im Grundbau; vgl. V.19), und auf ihnen standen die zwölf Namen der zwölf Apostel des Lammes geschrieben.
15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.	15 Der mit mir redende (Engel) hatte als Meßstab ein goldenes Rohr, um die Stadt sowie ihre Tore und ihre Mauer auszumessen.
16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.	16 Die Stadt bildet nämlich ein Viereck, und ihre Länge ist ebenso groß wie die Breite. So maß er denn die Stadt mit dem Rohr: zwölftausend Stadien (= 2200 Kilometer); Länge, Breite und Höhe sind bei ihr gleich.
17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.	17 Dann maß er ihre Mauer: hundertundvierundvierzig Ellen nach Menschenmaß, das auch Engelmaß ist.
18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.	18 Der Baustoff ihrer Mauer ist Jaspis, und die Stadt (selbst) besteht aus lauterem Gold, (durchsichtig) wie reines Glas.
19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;	19 Die Grundsteine (vgl. V.14) der Stadtmauer sind mit Edelsteinen jeder Art verziert: der erste Grundstein ist ein Jaspis, der zweite ein Saphir, der dritte ein Chalzedon, der vierte ein Smaragd,
20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.	20 der fünfte ein Sardonyx, der sechste ein Karneol, der siebte ein Chrysolith, der achte ein Beryll, der neunte ein Topas, der zehnte ein Chrysopras, der elfte ein Hyazinth, der zwölfte ein Amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.	21 Die zwölf Tore waren zwölf Perlen; jedes von ihnen bestand aus einer einzigen Perle; und die Straßen der Stadt waren lauteres Gold, wie durchsichtiges Glas.
22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.	22 Einen Tempel sah ich nicht in ihr; denn Gott der Herr, der Allmächtige, ist ihr Tempel und (außerdem) das Lamm.
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.	23 Auch bedarf die Stadt nicht der Sonne und nicht des Mondes zu ihrer Erleuchtung; denn die Herrlichkeit (= der Lichtglanz) Gottes spendet ihr Licht, und ihre Leuchte ist das Lamm.
24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.	24 Die Völker werden in ihrem Lichte wandeln, und die Könige der Erde bringen ihre Herrlichkeit in sie hinein.
25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.	25 Ihre Tore werden am Tage niemals verschlossen werden, denn Nacht wird es dort nicht mehr geben,
26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.	26 und man wird die Herrlichkeit und die Pracht (= Kostbarkeiten) der Völker in sie hineinbringen.
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.	27 Und niemals wird etwas Unreines in sie hineinkommen und niemand, der Greuel (oder: Götzendienst) und Lüge übt, sondern nur die, welche im Lebensbuche des Lammes verzeichnet stehen.
