1 And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,	1 Abimelec, filho de Jerobaal, foi a Siquem ter com os irmãos de sua mãe e disse-lhes, assim como toda a parentela da casa do pai de sua mãe:
2 Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.	2 Dizei a todos os homens de Sequim: Qual é melhor para vós, serdes dominados por setenta homens, filhos todos de Jerobaal, ou por um só homem? Considerai também que eu sou vosso osso e vossa carne.
3 And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.	3 Os irmãos de sua mãe falaram dele a todos os homens de Siquem, referindo todas as palavras, e inclinaram o seu coração a favor de Abimelec, dizendo: É nosso irmão.
4 And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.	4 (Os Siquemitas) deram-lhe setenta siclos de prata do templo de Baalberit, com os quais tomou a seu soldo homens miseráveis e aventureiros, que o seguiram.
5 And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.	5 Foi à casa de seu pai, em Efra , e matou, sobre uma só pedra, os seus irmãos, filhos de Jerobaal, setenta homens; escapou somente Joatão, filho mais novo de Jerobaal, que se escondeu.
6 And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.	6 Então juntaram-se todos os Siquemitas, com todas as famílias da casa de Melo; vieram e constituiram rei a Abimelec, junto do terebinto, que havia em Siquém.
7 And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.	7 Tendo sido avisado disto Joatão, foi e parou sobre o cimo do monte Garizim, e levantando a voz, clamou, dizendo: Ouvi-me homens de Siquém, para que, assim, Deus vos ouça.
8 The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.	8 Foram (uma vez) as árvores, para eleger sobre si um rei, e disseram à oliveira: Reina sobre nós.
9 But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?	9 Mas ela respondeu: Porventura posso eu deixar o meu óleo, de que se servem os deuses e os homens, para vir a ser superior entre as árvores?
10 And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.	10 E as árvores disseram à figueira: Vem e reina sobre nós.
11 But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?	11 Mas ela respondeu-Ihes: Porventura posso eu deixar a minha doçura, os meus suavíssimos frutos, para ir ser superior entre as outras árvores?
12 Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.	12 E as árvores disseram à videira; Vem e reina sobre nós.
13 And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?	13 Mas ela respondeu-lhes: Porventura posso eu deixar o meu vinho, que alegra Deus (nos sacrifícios) e os homens, para ser superior entre as outras árvores?
14 Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.	14 E todas as árvores disseram ao espinheiro: Vem e reina sobre nós.
15 And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.	15 E ele respondeu-lhes: Se vós deveras me constituis vosso rei, vinde e repousai debaixo da minha sombra; mas, se o não quereis, saia fogo do espinheiro e devore os cedros do Líbano.
16 Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;	16 Agora pois, se, com rectidão e sem pecado, constituistes vosso rei a Abimelec, se vos portastes bem com Jerobaal e com a sua casa, correspondendo aos benefícios daquele que combateu por vós,
17 (For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:	17 e que expôs a sua própria vida aos perigos, para vos livrar da mão de Madian,
18 And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)	18 — vós, que agora vos levantastes contra a casa de meu pai, matastes setenta homens seus filhos, sobre uma só pedra, e constituistes rei dos habitantes de Siquém a Abimelec, filho duma sua escrava, porque é vosso irmão, —
19 If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:	19 se, pois, procedestes com rectidão e sem pecado, com Jerobaal e com a sua casa, alegrai-vos hoje com Abimelec, e ele se alegre convosco.
20 But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.	20 Mas, se procedestes perversamente, saia fogo dele, e devore os habitantes de Siquém, e a cidade de Melo; e saia fogo dos homens de Siquém e da casa de Melo, e devore Abimelec.
21 And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.	21 Tendo dito estas palavras, fugiu e foi para Bera, onde habitou, por temer Abimelec, seu irmão.
22 When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,	22 Reinou Abimelec sobre Israel durante três anos,
23 Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:	23 mas o Senhor enviou um péssimo espírito entre Abimelec e os habitantes de Siquém, que se tornaram infiéis a Abimelech,
24 That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.	24 para que assim fosse vingado o crime da morte dos setenta filhos de Jerobaal, e o seu sangue caísse sobre Abimelec, seu irmão, e sobre os outros Siquemitas, que o tinham auxiliado.
25 And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.	25 Os homens de Siquém armaram contra ele ciladas no alto dos montes; e, enquanto ali esperavam que viesse, cometiam roubos, despojando os que passavam; e isto foi referido a Abimelec.
26 And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.	26 Ora Gaal, filho de Obed, foi com seus irmãos e passou a Siquém. À sua chegada, os habitantes de Siquém, animados,
27 And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.	27 saíram pelos campos, devastando as vinhas e calcando os cachos; (depois) formados coros de cantores, entraram no templo do seu deus, e, enquanto comiam e bebiam, amaldiçoavam Abimelec.
28 And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?	28 Gaal, filho de Obed, disse: Quem é Abimelec, e que (cidade) é Siquém, para que lhe estejamos sujeitos? Não é ele filho de Jerobaal, e não constituiu Zebul, seu servo, príncipe sobre os descendentes de Emor pai de Siquém? Por que razão pois o serviremos?
29 And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.	29 Oxalá que alguém me desse o mando deste povo, para eu exterminar Abimelec. E foi dito a Abimelec: Junta um exército numeroso, e vem.
30 And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.	30 Zebul, governador da cidade, tendo ouvido as palavras de Gaal, filho de Obed, ficou em extremo irado
31 And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.	31 e enviou secretamente mensageiros a Abimelec, a dizer-lhe: Gaal, filho de Obed, veio a Siquém com seus irmãos, e anda sublevando a cidade contra ti.
32 Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:	32 Portanto, sai de noite, com a gente que tens contigo, e deixa-te estar escondido no campo;
33 And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.	33 pela manhã cedo, ao nascer do sol, lança-te sobre a cidade; quando ele sair contra ti, com a sua gente, faz-lhe o que puderes.
34 And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.	34 Abimelech pois levantou-se de noite, com todo o seu exército, e pôs emboscadas em quatro lugares junto de Siquém.
35 And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.	35 Gaal, filho de Obed, saiu, e fez alto à entrada da porta da cidade. (Imediatamente) Abimelec saiu do lugar das emboscadas com todo o exército.
36 And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.	36 Quando Gaal viu aquela gente, disse a Zebul: Eis uma multidão que desce dos montes. Zebul respondeu-lhe: As sombras dos montes é que parecem homens: estás enganado com esta ilusão.
37 And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.	37 Gaal replicou: eis uma multidão que desce dos mais altos cimos, e um esquadrão que vem pelo caminho do Carvalho dos Adivinhos.
38 Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.	38 Zebul disse-lhe; Onde está agora a tua boca, com que dizias: Quem é Abimelec, para lhe estarmos sujeitos? Não é este povo que tu desprezavas? Sai e combate contra ele.
39 And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.	39 Saiu Gaal, à vista de todo o povo de Siquém, e combateu conta Abimelec,
40 And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.	40 que o foi seguindo na fuga e o constrangeu a entrar na cidade, tendo morrido muitos dos homens (de Gaal) até às portas dela.
41 And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.	41 Abimelec deteve-se em Ruma; Zebul porém lançou fora da cidade Gaal e os seus companheiros, que não puderam mais permanecer nela.
42 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.	42 Ao outro dia o povo saiu ao campo. Tendo sabido isto Abimelec,
43 And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.	43 tomou o seu exército e dividiu-o em três batalhões, dispondo emboscadas nos campos. Ao ver que o povo saía da cidade, pôs-se em movimento e deu sobre eles,
44 And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.	44 com o seu batalhão, combatendo e sitiando a cidade; os outros dois batalhões perseguiam os (que estavam) dispersos pelo campo.
45 And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.	45 Abimelec durante todo aquele dia esteve combatendo a cidade; tomou-a e matou os seus habitantes; depois arrasou-a e semeou-a de sal.
46 And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.	46 Tendo ouvido isto os que habitavam na torre de Siquém retiraram-se para o templo do seu deus Berit.
47 And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.	47 Abimelec, ouvindo dizer que os homens da torre de Siquém estavam nela todos apinhados,
48 And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.	48 subiu ao monte Selmon com toda a sua gente. Tomando um machado, cortou um ramo da árvore, e, levando-o ao ombro, disse aos companheiros: Fazei depressa o que me vêdes fazer.
49 And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.	49 Cortando, pois, à porfia, ramos de árvores, seguiram o chefe. Cercando a fortaleza, puseram-lhe fogo, e assim aconteceu que, por causa do fumo e do fogo, morreram mil pessoas, tanto homens como mulheres, que habitavam na torre de Siquém.
50 Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.	50 Partindo dali Abimelec foi à cidade de Tebes, que sitiou e tomou.
51 But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.	51 Havia no meio da cidade uma torre alta, na qual se tinham refugiado tanto homens como mulheres, e todos os principais da cidade; fechada fortemente a porta, subiram ao alto da torre, para se defenderem.
52 And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.	52 Abimelec, chegando-se ao pé da torre, atacou-a e aproximou-se da porta, para lhe pôr fogo.
53 And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.	53 Então uma mulher, lançando de cima um pedaço de mó, feriu Abimelec na cabeça e fracturou-lhe o crânio.
54 Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.	54 Ele chamou imediatamente o seu escudeiro e disse-lhe: Desembainha a tua espada e mata-me, para que se não diga que fui morto por uma mulher. O jovem o trespassou, e Abimelec morreu.
55 And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.	55 Morto Abimelec, todos os filhos de Israel, que estavam com ele, voltaram para as suas casas.
56 Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:	56 Assim pagou Deus a Abimelec o mal que tinha feito a seu pai, matando os seus setenta irmãos.
57 And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.	57 E assim também foi pago aos Siquemitas o mal que tinham feito, e caiu sobre eles a maldição de Joatão, filho de Jerobaal.
