1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:	1 - Ecco, o carissimi, vi scrivo questa seconda lettera per risvegliare, coll'ammonirvi, il sincero animo vostro;
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:	2 affinchè vi ricordiate delle parole dei santi profeti, delle quali ho già parlato, e dei precetti del Signore e Salvatore [trasmessi a voi] dai vostri apostoli.
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,	3 E sappiate prima di tutto che verranno negli ultimi giorni degli schernitori beffardi, viventi secondo le proprie concupiscenze,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.	4 i quali diranno: «Dov'è la promessa o la venuta di Lui? Mentre da quando i padri si addormentarono, tutto continua com'era al principio della creazione».
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:	5 Costoro infatti ignorano, perchè lo vogliono, che da prima per la parola di Dio furono i cieli e la terra [uscita] dall'acqua e formata per mezzo dell'acqua;
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:	6 e che per queste stesse cose il mondo d'allora perì inondato dall'acqua.
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.	7 Ma i cieli e la terra che sono adesso, sono custoditi dalla stessa parola e riserbati al fuoco il giorno del giudizio e della perdizione degli uomini empi.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.	8 Questo solo però non vi sia ignoto, o carissimi, che dinanzi a Dio un giorno è come mille anni e mille anni come un giorno.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.	9 Non ritarda il Signore la sua promessa come certuni pensano; ma Egli usa pazienza per riguardo a voi, non volendo che alcuno perisca, ma che tutti ritornino a penitenza.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.	10 Ma il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro. Allora i cieli passeranno con gran fracasso, e gli elementi saranno sciolti dal calore e la terra e le cose che sono in essa saranno bruciate.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,	11 Poichè dunque tutte queste cose devono essere disciolte, [riflettete] quali conviene che siate nel santo vivere e nella pietà,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?	12 aspettando e correndo incontro alla venuta del giorno del Signore, nel quale i cieli ardenti si scioglieranno e gli elementi si liquefaranno per l'ardore del fuoco?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.	13 Ma noi aspettiamo, secondo la sua promessa, nuovi cieli e nuova terra, nei quali abita la giustizia.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.	14 Perciò, o carissimi, aspettando tali cose, fate di tutto per essere trovati da lui immacolati e puri nella pace;
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;	15 ritenendo che la longanimità del Signor nostro è la salute, come ve n'ha scritto anche il nostro carissimo fratello Paolo secondo la sapienza a lui data,
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.	16 come [fa] in tutte le lettere, dove parla di queste cose, nelle quali vi sono alcuni punti difficili a intendersi e che gli ignoranti e i poco stabili stravolgono - come anche le altre Scritture - per loro perdizione.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.	17 Voi dunque, o fratelli, istruiti per tempo, siate in guardia, affinchè trascinati dall'errore degli stolti non abbiate a vacillare nella vostra fermezza.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.	18 Anzi crescete nella grazia e nella conoscenza del Signor nostro e Salvatore Gesù Cristo. A Lui gloria, adesso e nel giorno dell'eternità. Amen.
