2 Peter 3

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:	1 Voici déjà, très chers, la deuxième lettre que je vous écris; dans les deux je fais appel à vossouvenirs pour éveiller en vous une saine intelligence.
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:	2 Souvenez-vous des choses prédites par les saints prophètes et du commandement de vos apôtres,celui du Seigneur et Sauveur.
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,	3 Sachez tout d'abord qu'aux derniers jours, il viendra des railleurs pleins de raillerie, guidés par leurspassions.
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.	4 Ils diront: "Où est la promesse de son avènement? Depuis que les Pères sont morts, tout demeurecomme au début de la création."
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:	5 Car ils ignorent volontairement qu'il y eut autrefois des cieux et une terre qui, du milieu de l'eau, parle moyen de l'eau, surgit à la parole de Dieu
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:	6 et que, par ces mêmes causes, le monde d'alors périt inondé par l'eau.
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.	7 Mais les cieux et la terre d'à présent, la même parole les a mis de côté et en réserve pour le feu, envue du jour du Jugement et de la ruine des hommes impies.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.	8 Mais voici un point, très chers, que vous ne devez pas ignorer: c'est que devant le Seigneur, un jourest comme mille ans et mille ans comme un jour.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.	9 Le Seigneur ne retarde pas l'accomplissement de ce qu'il a promis, comme certains l'accusent deretard, mais il use de patience envers vous, voulant que personne ne périsse, mais que tous arrivent au repentir.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.	10 Il viendra, le Jour du Seigneur, comme un voleur; en ce jour, les cieux se dissiperont avec fracas,les éléments embrasés se dissoudront, la terre avec les oeuvres qu'elle renferme sera consumée.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,	11 Puisque toutes ces choses se dissolvent ainsi, quels ne devez-vous pas être par une sainte conduiteet par les prières,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?	12 attendant et hâtant l'avènement du Jour de Dieu, où les cieux enflammés se dissoudront et où leséléments embrasés se fondront.
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.	13 Ce sont de nouveaux cieux et une terre nouvelle que nous attendons selon sa promesse, où lajustice habitera.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.	14 C'est pourquoi, très chers, en attendant, mettez votre zèle à être sans tache et sans reproche, pourêtre trouvés en paix.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;	15 Tenez la longanimité de notre Seigneur pour salutaire, comme notre cher frère Paul vous l'a aussiécrit selon la sagesse qui lui a été donnée.
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.	16 Il le fait d'ailleurs dans toutes les lettres où il parle de ces questions. Il s'y rencontre des pointsobscurs, que les gens sans instruction et sans fermeté détournent de leur sens - comme d'ailleurs les autresEcritures - pour leur propre perdition.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.	17 Vous donc, très chers, étant avertis, soyez sur vos gardes, de peur qu'entraînés par l'égarement descriminels, vous ne veniez à déchoir de votre fermeté.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.	18 Mais croissez dans la grâce et la connaissance de notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus Christ: à lui lagloire maintenant et jusqu'au jour de l'éternité! Amen.
