1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,	1 Paolo, apostolo di Cristo Gesù per volontà di Dio, secondo la promessa di vita che è in Cristo Gesù,
2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.	2 a Timoteo, figlio carissimo: grazia, misericordia e pace da parte di Dio Padre e di Cristo Gesù, Signore nostro.
3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;	3 Ringrazio Dio, a cui servo con pura coscienza fin dal tempo dei miei antenati, tutte le volte che faccio memoria di te nelle mie preghiere, senza interruzione né di notte né di giorno.
4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;	4 Ricordandomi delle tue lacrime, desidero anche di rivederti, per essere riempito di gioia,
5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.	5 memore di quella fede senza ipocrisia che è in te e che, prima ancora, albergò nel cuore della tua nonna Loide e di tua madre Eunice e, ne sono sicuro, alberga anche in te.
6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.	6 Per questo motivo, ti esorto a ravvivare il carisma di Dio, che è in te per l'imposizione delle mie mani.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.	7 Dio, infatti, non ci ha dato uno spirito di timidezza, ma di forza, di amore e di saggezza.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;	8 Non arrossire dunque della testimonianza del Signore nostro, né di me suo prigioniero, ma soffri piuttosto con me per il vangelo, confidando nella forza di Dio.
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,	9 E' lui, infatti, che ci ha salvati e ci ha chiamati con una vocazione santa, non in virtù delle nostre opere, ma secondo il suo disegno e la sua grazia, che ci fu data in Cristo prima dei tempi eterni,
10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:	10 ma che è stata manifestata ora mediante l'apparizione del Salvatore nostro Gesù Cristo, che ha distrutto la morte e ha fatto risplendere la vita e l'immortalità per mezzo del vangelo,
11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.	11 del quale io sono stato stabilito araldo, apostolo e maestro.
12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.	12 Anzi, è proprio per questo motivo che sopporto tali cose; ma io non ne arrossisco, perché so a chi ho creduto e sono pienamente convinto che egli ha potere di custodire il mio deposito fino a quel giorno.
13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.	13 Prendi per modello le sane parole che hai da me udito, nella fede e nell'amore che è in Cristo Gesù.
14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.	14 Custodisci il buon deposito per mezzo dello Spirito Santo che abita in noi.
15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.	15 Tu lo sai che tutti quelli dell'Asia, fra i quali Figelo ed Ermogene, mi hanno abbandonato.
16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:	16 Il Signore usi misericordia alla casa di Onesiforo, perché spesso egli mi ha rianimato e non ha arrossito delle mie catene:
17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.	17 anzi, essendo venuto a Roma, mi cercò premurosamente finché non mi ebbe trovato.
18 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.	18 Il Signore conceda anche a lui di trovare misericordia presso di lui in quel giorno: tutti i servizi che ha reso in Efeso, li conosci meglio di qualsiasi altro.
