¹ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;	¹ Paolo, apostolo di Gesù Cristo, per mandato di Dio salvatore nostro e di Cristo Gesù speranza nostra,
² Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.	² a Timoteo, vero figlio nella fede: grazia, misericordia, pace da Dio Padre e da Cristo Gesù, Signore nostro!
³ As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,	³ Partendo per la Macedonia, io ti raccomandai di rimanere ancora a Efeso per diffidare certuni dall’insegnare dottrine estranee
⁴ Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.	⁴ e dall’attaccarsi a favole e genealogie senza fine, più adatte a favorire contese che a servire alla divina economia della fede.
⁵ Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:	⁵ Ma lo scopo di tale ordine è di ottenere la carità che nasce da un cuore puro e da una coscienza buona e da una fede senza finzioni.
⁶ From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;	⁶ Deviando da queste virtù, certuni si smarrirono in chiacchiere vuote.
⁷ Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.	⁷ Vogliono essere dottori della legge, mentre non sanno né quel che dicono né di che cosa si fanno campioni.
⁸ But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;	⁸ Ora noi sappiamo che è buona la legge, per chi ne fa un uso legittimo,
⁹ Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,	⁹ e ci rendiamo conto che una legge non è costituita per il giusto, ma er senzalegge e ribelli, cibi e peccatori, irreligiosi e profanatori, parricidi e matricidi, assassini,
¹⁰ For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;	¹⁰ fornicatori, sodomiti, ladri di uomini, menzogneri, spergiuri, e altri, se vi è qualche altra cosa che si oppone alla sana dottrina,
¹¹ According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.	¹¹ che si ispira all’evangelo della gloria del beato Iddio, che mi fu affidato.
¹² And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;	¹² Rendo grazie a colui che mi rese forte, a Cristo Gesù Signore nostro, perché stimò degno di fiducia, ponendomi nel ministero,
¹³ Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.	¹³ me, prima bestemmiatore e persecutore e violento. Mi fu usata misericordia perché agivo in uno stato d’incredulità ignorante;
¹⁴ And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.	¹⁴ e sovrabbondò la grazia del Signore nostro con la fede e la carità che è nel Cristo Gesù.
¹⁵ This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.	¹⁵ È parola sicura e del tutto degna di fede, che il Cristo Gesù venne nel mondo per salvare i peccatori, il primo dei quali sono io.
¹⁶ Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.	¹⁶ Per questo appunto mi fu usata misericordia: perché in me, per primo, Gesù Cristo mostrasse tutta la sua longanimità, esempio quelli che devono credere in lui in vista della vita eterna.
¹⁷ Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.	¹⁷ Al re dei secoli, incorruttibile, invisibile, unico Dio, onore e gloria per i secoli dei secoli. Amen!
¹⁸ This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;	¹⁸ Questo è l’ordine che ti affido, o figlio Timoteo, in accordo con le Profezie già pronunciate su di te: combatti, da esse sostenuto, la bella battaglia,
¹⁹ Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:	¹⁹ avendo fede e buona coscienza: per essersene disfatti, alcuni naufragarono riguardo alla fede.
²⁰ Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.	²⁰ Tra questi sono Imeneo e Alessandro, che io consegnai a Satana, perché siano educati a non bestemmiare.
