¹ Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,	¹ Dopo la morte di Mosè, servitore di Dio, Jahvè parlò a Giosuè, figlio di Nun, che serviva Mosè:
² Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.	² «È morto il mio servitore Mosè; ora, dunque, levati, passa il Giordano, tu con tutto questo popolo, per entrare nel paese che io concedo a loro, ai figli di Israele.
³ Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.	³ Io vi concedo ogni luogo che la pianta dei vostri piedi calcherà, come ho già detto a Mosè.
⁴ From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.	⁴ I vostri confini si stenderanno dal deserto e dal Libano che vedi là fino al grande fiume, l’Eufrate, tutta la terra degli Hittiti fino al mare grande dove tramonta il sole.
⁵ There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.	⁵ Nessuno ti potrà resistere durante tutti i giorni della tua vita; io sarò con te come sono stato con Mosè. Io non ti lascerò né ti abbandonerò.
⁶ Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.	⁶ Sii forte e coraggioso! Perché tu dovrai portare questo popolo al possesso del paese che ho giurato ai loro padri di dare loro.
⁷ Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.	⁷ Solamente sii forte e coraggioso per agire esattamente secondo ogni istruzione che ti ha imposto Mosè mio servitore. Non deviare né a destra né a sinistra se vuoi riuscire in ogni tua impresa.
⁸ This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.	⁸ Questo libro della legge non si allontani mai dalla tua bocca! Ripassalo giorno e notte per agire esattamente secondo quanto vi è prescritto; così avrai successo nella tua impresa e manifesterai la tua prudenza.
⁹ Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.	⁹ Non ti ho io dato quest’ordine:“Sii forte e coraggioso? Non spaventarti né avvilirti, perché Jahvè tuo Dio è con te in tutte le tue imprese”».
¹⁰ Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,	¹⁰ Allora Giosuè comandò agli ispettori del popolo:
¹¹ Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.	¹¹ «Passate in mezzo all’accampamento e date al popolo quest’ordine: “Preparatevi provviste di viveri, perché fra tre giorni attraverserete questo Giordano per andare a occupare il paese che Jahvè vostro Dio vi dà in possesso».
¹² And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,	¹² Giosuè disse ai Rubeniti, ai Gaditi e a metà della tribù di Manasse:
¹³ Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.	¹³ «Ricordatevi dell’ordine che Mosè, servitore di Jahvè, vi diede quando vi disse: “Jahvè vostro Dio vi concede riposo e vi dà questa terra.
¹⁴ Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;	¹⁴ Le vostre donne, i vostri figli, i vostri greggi restino pure nel paese che Mosè vi diede al di là del Giordano; ma voi tutti, prodi guerrieri, passerete in armi alla testa dei vostri fratelli e presterete loro aiuto,
¹⁵ Until the LORD have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the LORD your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD's servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.	¹⁵ finché Jahvè non abbia dato riposo ai vostri fratelli come a voi, e anch’essi possiedano la terra che Jahvè concede loro. Allora potrete ritornare nella terra che vi appartiene e possederla, quella terra che Mosè, servitore di Jahvè, vi ha assegnato al di là del Giordano, verso il sorgere del sole”».
¹⁶ And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.	¹⁶ Essi risposero a Giosuè: «Noi faremo quanto ci comandi e andremo dovunque ci manderai.
¹⁷ According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.	¹⁷ Come abbiamo obbedito a Mosè in ogni cosa, così obbediremo a te. Solamente sia con te Jahvè tuo Dio come fu con Mosè!
¹⁸ Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.	¹⁸ Chiunque ti farà resistenza e non obbedirà ai tuoi ordini, qualunque cosa tu gli comandi, sia messo a morte. Soltanto sii forte e coraggioso!»
