1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?	1 À ce moment-même les disciples de Jésus viennent lui demander: "Qui donc est le plus grand dans le Royaume des Cieux?”
2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,	2 Il appelle un petit enfant et le place au milieu d’eux.
3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.	3 Puis il dit: "En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous ne redevenez pas comme des enfants, vous n’entrerez pas dans le Royaume des Cieux.
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.	4 Si quelqu’un peut se rabaisser au niveau de cet enfant, c’est lui le plus grand dans le Royaume des Cieux.
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.	5 Et si quelqu’un reçoit en mon nom un enfant tel que je viens de dire, il me reçoit.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.	6 “Si quelqu’un devait faire chuter un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il vaudrait mieux pour lui qu’on lui attache au cou une meule de moulin et qu’on le fasse couler au plus profond de la mer.
7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!	7 “Malheur au monde à cause des scandales! Il est nécessaire que les scandales arrivent, mais malheur à celui qui est la cause du scandale.
8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.	8 “Si ta main ou ton pied doit te faire chuter, coupe-le et jette-le loin de toi. Il vaut mieux pour toi entrer dans la vie avec une seule main ou un seul pied, que d’avoir deux mains et deux pieds quand on te jettera au feu éternel.
9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.	9 Si ton œil doit te faire chuter, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans la vie avec un seul œil que d’en avoir deux et d’être jeté dans l’enfer du feu.
10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.	10 “Faites attention à ne mépriser aucun de ces petits. Je vous assure que leurs anges dans le ciel voient constamment le visage de mon Père des cieux.
11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.	11 (Oui, le Fils de l’Homme est venu sauver ce qui était perdu.)
12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?	12 “Que se passe-t-il, d’après vous, si quelqu’un a 100 brebis et que l’une d’elles vient à s’égarer? Ne va-t-il pas laisser les 99 autres dans la montagne pour partir à la recherche de celle qui s’est égarée?
13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.	13 S’il peut la retrouver, je vous affirme qu’elle lui apporte plus de joie que les 99 qui ne se sont pas égarées.
14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.	14 C’est la même chose chez votre Père des Cieux: là on ne veut pas qu’un seul de ces petits se perde.”
15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.	15 “Si ton frère a péché, va le reprendre toi seul avec lui. S’il t’écoute, tu as gagné ton frère.
16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.	16 S’il ne t’écoute pas, prends avec toi une ou deux personnes de façon que toute l’affaire se règle en présence de deux ou trois témoins.
17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.	17 S’il ne les écoute pas, dis-le à l’Église, et s’il n’écoute pas l’Église, qu’il soit désormais pour toi comme un païen ou un publicain.
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.	18 “En vérité je vous le dis: tout ce que vous liez ici sur terre sera lié dans le ciel, et ce que vous déliez sur la terre sera délié dans le ciel.
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.	19 “Je vous dis également que si deux d’entre vous se mettent d’accord ici, sur terre, pour demander quoi que ce soit, mon Père dans les cieux fera qu’ils l’obtiennent.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.	20 Car dès que deux ou trois sont réunis en mon nom, je suis là au milieu d’eux.”
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?	21 Alors Pierre s’approche et lui pose cette question: "Seigneur, combien de fois vais-je pardonner à mon frère si de nouveau il me fait tort? Jusqu’à sept fois?”
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.	22 Et Jésus lui dit: "Je ne dis pas sept fois, mais soixante-dix-sept fois.”
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.	23 “À ce propos, apprenez quelque chose du Royaume des Cieux. Un roi a décidé de demander des comptes à ses serviteurs,
24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.	24 et pour commencer on lui en présente un qui doit 10 000 lingots d’or.
25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.	25 Comme il n’est pas en mesure de rembourser, son seigneur ordonne de le vendre avec sa femme, ses enfants et tout ce qu’il a, de manière à récupérer quelque chose.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.	26 “Alors le serviteur se jette à ses pieds, face contre terre, et lui dit: ‘Sois patient avec moi et je te rembourserai tout.’
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.	27 Le roi a une telle compassion de lui qu’il le remet en liberté, et même il efface sa dette.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.	28 “Mais aussitôt sorti, ce serviteur rencontre un compagnon de travail qui lui doit 100 pièces. Il le prend à la gorge en lui disant: ‘Rends-moi ce que tu me dois.’
29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.	29 Son compagnon se jette à ses pieds et le supplie: ‘Sois patient avec moi et je te rembourserai’.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.	30 Mais l’autre refuse et s’en va le faire mettre en prison jusqu’à ce qu’il ait remboursé sa dette.
31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.	31 “En voyant cela, les autres compagnons sont profondément peinés et ils vont dénoncer à leur seigneur ce qui vient de se passer.
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:	32 “Le seigneur fait alors appeler l’autre et lui dit: ‘Méchant serviteur, quand tu m’as supplié, je t’ai libéré de toute cette dette;
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?	33 ne devais-tu pas toi aussi avoir pitié de ton compagnon comme j’ai eu pitié de toi?’
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.	34 Le seigneur était fort en colère et il le remit aux mains des bourreaux jusqu’à ce qu’il ait payé tout ce qu’il devait.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.	35 “Oui, mon Père des Cieux vous traitera de la même façon si chacun de vous ne pardonne pas à son frère du fond de son cœur.”
