1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.	1 Adesso per voi è quest' intimazione, o sacerdoti.
2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.	2 Se voi non vorrete ascoltare, e se non vorrete mettervi in cuore di dar gloria al mio nome, dice il Signore de gli eserciti, io manderò a voi la miseria, e maledirò le vostre benedizioni; io le maledirò, perchè voi non mi avete dato retta.
3 Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.	3 Ecco, che io getterò a voi la spalla (delle vittime,) e vi butterò in faccia lo sterco delle vostre solennità, e anderete sparsi com' esso.
4 And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.	4 E conoscerete, che io feci a voi quel comando, perchè fermo restasse il mio patto con Levi, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
5 My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.	5 Il mio patto con lui fu di vita, e di pace, ed io gli diedi il mio timore, ed egli mi temè, e tremava al mio nome.
6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.	6 La legge della verità fu nella sua bocca, e sulle sue labbra non si posò la menzogna: camminò meco nella pace, e nell'equità, e molti ritrasse dal peccato.
7 For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.	7 Perocché le labbra del sacerdote hanno il deposito della scienza, e dalla bocca di lui apparerassi la legge, per chè egli è l'Angelo del Signore degli eserciti.
8 But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.	8 Ma voi siete usciti di strada, e a moltissimi foste di scandalo a violare la legge: annullaste il patto di Levi, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.	9 Per questo siccome voi non avete seguitate le mie vie, e trattandosi della legge avete fatta accettazione di persone, io pure vi ho renduti spregevoli, e abbietti dinanzi a tutte le nazioni.
10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?	10 Non è egli uno solo il Padre di tutti noi? Non è egli un solo Dio quegli, che ci ha creati? perchè adunque ciascuno di noi disprezza il proprio fratello, violando il patto de padri nostri?
11 Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.	11 Giuda prevaricò, l'abbominazione fu commessa in Israele, e in Gerusalemme, perchè Giuda contaminò la santità del Signore amata da lui, e sposò delle figlie di un dio straniero.
12 The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.	12 Il Signore sterminerà da' tabernacoli di Giacobbe colui, che avrà fatto tal cosa, e il discepolo, e il maestro, e colui, che offerisce doni, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
13 And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.	13 E di più avete fatto anche questo; avete ripieno l'altare del Signore di lagrime, di pianti, e di muggiti, talmente che io non getto più lo sguardo a verun sagrifizio, e nissuna cosa riceverò dalle mani vostre, che possa placarmi.
14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.	14 Ma voi dite: E per qual motivo? perchè il Signore fu testimone tra te, e la moglie presa da te nella prima età, la quale tu dispregiasti, ed ella era tua compagna, e tua sposa, mediante il tuo patto.
15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.	15 Non la fece forse quell'uno? E non è ella porzione del suo spirito? E quell'uno, che vuol egli mai, se non una figliuolanza di Dio? Custodite adunque il vostro spirito, e non dispregiate le mogli della vostra prima età.
16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.	16 Quando tu l'abbi in odio, rimandala, dice il Signore Dio d'Israele, ma l'iniquità cuoprirà il tuo vestimento, dice il Signore degli eserciti. Conservate il vostro spirito, e non vogliate disprezzarle.
17 Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?	17 Voi avete recato affanno al Signore co' vostri discorsi. Ma voi dite a che gli abbiam noi recato affanno? In questo che voi andate dicendo: Chiunque mal fa, egli è buono negli occhi del Signore, e costoro a lui sono accetti; o almeno, quel Dio, che fa giudizio, dov'è?
